Hey, everyone!
Jessica here and I'm thrilled to be back today with a fun project that my little one is already enjoying! It's funny- my kids always LOVE when I'm about to be up on the Helmar blog because chances are I'll be making one of them something, LOL!
Today it was my little Ava's turn! A really good friend of mine makes her own headbands, tutus, etc. and her daughter is in class with my Ava. As soon as I saw her little girl wearing all these cute headbands, I asked her where she got them and she told me she made them! We are one of her best customers, heehee...and Ava has definitely racking up some CUTE headbands and clips :) But WHERE to store them?
I don't know about you, but I am ALL about Pinterest lately and saw an idea to make a cute headband holder out of an old oatmeal canister. I probably needed the larger size one, but here's what I did for her today that will tide her over for the time being :)
I started with the canister, some beautiful paper from SusieBee Studios (a Helmar preferred provider!) and some ACID FREE GLUE. You can see it here in my Glue-Daddy Caddy (I altered it and LOVE having a place to store all my Helmar glues!)
The paper is the most beautiful 12x12 paper with gorgeous watercolored designs in beautiful colors!
I covered the canister with the paper that I ended up stitching toether to make sure I had enough to cover the whole can. I then added some of my favorite "Bloomers" trim to the bottom to make it super girly and also to catch any runaway headbands :) I used 450 Quick-Dry on the flowers and it works like a CHARM every.single. time.
When I was done adhereing the fabric flowers, I used 450 Quick Dry again to glue on some resin flowers and a few paper flowers to give enough dimension to hold the headbands.
Here's a closeup of the lid:
Last but not least I added her name:
...and also a VERY sparkly lid :) The best part about using a canister is that there's tons of room inside for ponytail holders, barrettes, even soft headbands. All kinds of hair flair :)
Here is the final product again, now residing on top of her dresser:

Oh so cute Jess and what a good idea for hair ties!
