Today I am happy to share a layout I created using products from our wonderful Helmar prefered partner, Faber-Castell. I was able to try something new for me, and learn to use something special that I will continue to try, when creating layouts, cards, and altered art projects in the future.
I started playing with the fabulous Faber Castell products first in my art journal. My art journal is mostly just for me to experiment in, and I started off by checking out the watercolor pencils. I sketched borders, and then added water with my finger...and it really kicked my ideas and inspiration into high gear. The thing I noticed I liked the most, and thought would work best on a layout, was when I would write a word in two contrasting colors, and then adding the water gently, following the line with my finger.
I wrote the word "discover" in my art journal (and really liked the look), and after looking at a recent selfie I had on the table and planned to use for this layout, everything pretty much started to just fit together. I realized that I wanted to put my recent positive outlook, thoughts, and self discovery onto a page, because it felt important.
After I created the watercolored words, and traced a border to eventually sew over, I waited (impatiently...I was excited) for the paper to dry before adding my embellishments and photo. Eventually, I added some vintage flair that I think really works with the colors in the words I wrote with the watercolor pencils. The soft, dreamy lines of the handwritten words, look just exactly as I had hoped when I envisioned the completed layout, and they were super easy to do!
I stamped the two corners by the photo, which is adhered to a double piece of vintage dress pattern paper, using a stamp that came with the really wonderful Mixed Media Pitt set of pens. I simply colored the stamp using a bit of a gradient, using the marker. I also lightly stamped around on the bare parts of the layout, to repeat the pattern throughout.
I am thrilled that I was able to take a bit of fun and experimentation, and make it a completed scrapbook page! I also love that working with these Faber Castell Products enhanced my confidence in trying such interesting and beautiful artistic techniques on my layouts. I can't wait to head to my studio asap, to create some more!
Thank you SO MUCH for joining me today, and I hope you'll give this a try...I found it so rewarding!
