Hi guys! Jamie back with you today! I love making altered items for our home and as gifts so I am always on the look out for great finds! I recently picked up this cute box at the Christmas Tree Shop for only $3.99! Such a deal!
I love that it is hinged and includes glass in the top frame and this box has removable inserts for the dividers which makes it so much easier to alter! It's the little that excite me :)
I am L. Grace Lauer and today I am so excited to share with you a slide show tour of my recent labor of love. My son has finished all the Harry Potter Books at the age of nine and asked for a Harry Potter Birthday Party for his 10th Birthday.
I am very thrilled to show you this slide show with mini tutorials included on how I made some of the decor, props and other party supplies. These projects use products such as Acid Free Glue, 450 Quick Dry, Premium Craft Glue, V2, Permanent and Removable Adhesive Runner and more.
I hope you all have a Happy Helmar Day! Let me know how you liked it by commenting below.
Happy Easter! I have the pleasure of kicking off Liquid Scrap Dots Week with a video tutorial! Scrapbooking has never been easier since I started using Helmar adhesives and layering has never been more fun since I was introduced to Helmar's Liquid Scrap Dots.
I love using Liquid Scrap Dots as a last step on my layouts, cards, or journal pages to help add lift and layers to my projects. But, I really wanted to showcase Scrap Dots today by showing you how you can continue to build layer upon layer by using it alone!
Before adding the dimensional adhesive, you need a strong bond to your first layer. To adhere this digital copy of my great grandmother, I used Helmar's Premium Craft Glue. As you can see in the video, I glued the photo down and then wanted to add a piece of paper next to it. Changing my mind, I wanted to tuck it under the photo a little and that photo already had a good bond on the scrapbook page. This is the kind of bond that you need to know you can trust layering as much as you want without it falling off later.
I can't help but be amazed that I have control of how high I want my layers with Liquid Scrap Dots. I was teaching a class last weekend, where I showed Liquid Scrap Dots on a small embellishment. I purposely squeezed out a large amount on to it and placed it on my page. Everyone was shocked that the whole room "OOOed" and "Ahhhed".
There is no other way to explain its magic without sharing this video. Enlarge and change the settings to enjoy watching it beautifully in high definition!
I know you were as "wow-ed" as I was the first time I saw Liquid Scrap Dots! Continue to join us this week as we show you other ways to use this liquid dimensional glue!
There are days where I just need to record the moment, quickly. Like the time when I was following my husband and son home. He was in his car and I was in mine. Have you ever been at a stop light where your child is waving at you from the car ahead? Yeah, you have to wave right? I was excitedly waving back. Then, I looked over in the opposite lane to me. There was a police officer waving hysterically at me, apparently mimicking me. It was so funny that I laughed out loud which then made him laugh. A police officer! I couldn't believe it. Those are the moments that we need to write about because they are quickly forgotten.
Sometimes I create in my journal or Smash book so that I can go back and write in it later. I don't usually think of inspiring things while I am crafting. I just create. So, I leave lots of space to jot things down later. This way, I can throw my book in my bag on my way out the door for an appointment and I can write in it when the ideas come to me. Or, when funny things need to be recorded quickly they can.
This is also a good way to prepare for a trip. You can have your pages ready to go with envelopes or pockets and all you need to do is collect items from your trip and record the memories while they are fresh in your mind.
I almost always use magazine clippings of items that inspire me. These are from the Anthropologie catalog. There has been many times where I need ideas for my next layout or project and I have been inspired by a color, pattern, or even word on a page in my journal.
In the video below, I give detailed instructions on how I created the pages above in only 3 minutes. ;)
In the video you can also see me adding Helmar's Premium Craft Glue on the back of some stickers. I tend to change my mind after adding something to a project. I end up pulling it off and putting it back in the packaging. Sometimes, the adhesive has worn off. No worries about wasting product with Helmar. I just add some adhesive to the back and use it for another project.
Also, my mother emailed me and said, "I might be a little 'monkish' [referring to the television series] but why did you change the card from a five to a nine?" Just in case you might be wondering the same thing, my son turns five this month. I might want to use that on another project. But, hey, playing cards might not be my thing when he becomes nine. ;)
I look forward to sharing some more journaling tips in the near future! In the meantime, enjoy the moment!
I am so excited to share with you the second part of my project for Helmar & May Arts Week! Yesterday, I created Romantic Ribbon Trim and today I am sharing my Romantic Ribbon Cuff. I finished this vintage inspired cuff a few weeks ago. It is good to know that great minds think alike. You can check out Erika's cuff from earlier in the week, here.
To create this lovely bangle, follow the directions of creating my ribbon trim as shown in the three minute video below. Cut your fabric to about 8"x3".
When you are finished designing the top of your cuff, as shown in the video, instead of cutting your fabric into strips, cut another piece of fabric with iron-on interfacing to the same size and put right sides together.
Sew the two pieces of fabric together and leave an opening on one side. Flip inside out.
Top stitch the opening closed adding a little ribbon to loop onto a button to close the bracelet. I used my heavy duty needle and a 4-5 stitch to top stitch the whole thing so it would look quilted.
I used a little crocheted doily in the middle and added an 18 gauge wire to the little porcelain doll. I glued these down with Helmar's 450 Quick Dry. Did you know this glue is machine washable? Perfect for your fabric projects.
I then added the bling! To create these faux pearls with a pearl paint pen and clear string, watch the one and a half minute video below.
I took the string of pearls and again used Helmar's 450 Quick Dry to glue them down. The easiest way I found to glue them was to rub the pearl along the tip of the bottle. Then put the pearl on the fabric. Do this one pearl at a time. They adhered perfectly and beautifully!

Welcome to another day of May Arts week here on the Helmar Blog! With Valentine's Day right around the corner, what better way is there to get ready for the holiday than with May Arts ribbon?
When I think of Valentine's Day, I can't help but get a little romantic. I love bright reds and pinks. But this time of year, I can't help but think of vintage doilies, my grandmother's tablecloths, and lovely trims. It is usually the time of year I think of my grandparents' love story. They are no longer with us, but their love and legacy lives on.
Remembering them, I was inspired to create Valentines with these envelopes and May Arts ribbon. This project can be easily completed to create several Valentines at a time. Fill these darling envelopes with any treat or little something for that special someone.
I used Helmar's 450 Quick Dry along with several of May Arts' ribbon. To see how to make this trim, watch the three minute film below.
I then folded the envelope flap over the front and used Helmar's 450 Quick Dry to glue some lace paper and the trim to the envelope. When dry, I punched through the layers and threaded May Art's twine through the envelope and tied it into a bow. (To keep my bow from flopping around I wiped the edge of my 450 Quick Dry's lid off onto the twine and laid it flat.)
I can't wait to share the other project I created with this beautiful trim soon!
