Still in the mood for love

February isn't over yet, so don't stop making those love-themed projects!  While Valentine's day has passed, a whole year of anniversaries, weddings, and other special occasions has yet to come.

This card is quick and easy, yet packs a punch with it's layers of embellishment and texture.  Velvet ribbon is adhered over pearl swirls and Liquid Scrap Dots are placed under the flowers and leaves to provide support for the delicate natural materials.  A glittery butterfly hovers over the flowers thanks to more Liquid Scrap Dots, and adds a final touch of sparkle to the card.

Supplies:

Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive
Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots
All other supplies from Prima Marketing Inc.

Instructions:

1. Cut floral paper to 6 x 12 inches and fold to create card base.
2.  Add 6 in. velvet ribbon to bottom 1/4 of card using 450 Quick Dry Adhesive, and pearl swirls diagonally to left side of card.
3.  Adhere red leaf to left side of card, overlapping ribbon, using 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.  Apply Liquid Scrap Dots under ruffled portion of leaf to provide support.  Adhere green flower in the same manner as leaf.
4. Adhere butterfly using Liquid Scrap Dots to layer over flowers. 
5. Add flocked letter stickers to lower right side of card.

I love using the Liquid Scrap Dots for this kind of heavy layering.  All my delicate embellishments are protected from being crushed and all the layers are level without having to hide a solid adhesive.  The "WOW!" factor can be added to a project with a simple dot of glue!

I am all about texture and lift...I just love it.
I am not sure what I would do if I ever thought I needed to go back to flat scrapbooking, it just has become a huge part of me.

I am so glad that I found Helmar to add to my projects to make them easier and quicker to create!
I created this personalized mini album from My Acrylic Album, in just a few hours. Yes, I did take a break to let things dry, but otherwise, just hours. Give something new a try and have fun with an acrylic album!

Process:
1) Cover each letter with helmaR Acid Free Glue and sprinkle various colors of glitter and let dry.
2) Spray individual acrylic piece with V2 vELLUM adhesive, add transparency, and let dry.
3) When dry, trim edges of transparency, so that it is all even with the album.
4) Add photos, flowers, Bling, or any other embellishment desired.  I used the clear 450 Adhesive on all of my dimensional embellies so that the adhesive was clear.  Helmar Gem Glue works perfectly with all those blingy things! Easy, easy, dab it on there and let dry.

See...really easy project!

Home Is Where My heart Is

Since February is the month of LOVE, I thought it only fitting to do a love themed project for this months blog entry, although you could use this project all year around.  This adorable scalloped heart is from Say It With Letters and comes with holes in the back ready to mount on the wall, so all you have to do is decorate and embellish it.  Here's how I did mine:

1. Cover the sides and surface of the heart frame with pattered paper using Helmar's Craft and Hobby PVA Glue.
2. Next, cut a piece of cardboard big enough to cover the center opening of the heart frame.  Cover the cardboard with patterned paper, using the same Craft and Hobby Glue listed above.
3. Place the heart on top of the cardboard, and with a pencil, lightly trace the shape of the heart on to the cardboard. Next, use a circle punch to cut out several circles from patterned paper.  Cut the circles in half, then use the Craft and Hobby PVA Glue around the pencil lines you previously traced.  (Remember to let the circles over lap the traced line slightly, so that when the project is put together there will be no gaps showing.)
4. Apply letter stickers, inked chipboard letters, and a chipboard heart that has been covered with patterned paper to the cardboard to create the sentiment.  (Before gluing down your letters permanently, place the heart in position on the cardboard, to make sure the letters will fit within the frame.)
5. Glue the heart frame onto the cardboard.  Use a strip of pleated, scalloped patterned paper to cover the inner edge of the frame.
6. Finally, embellish the right side of the heart with chipboard cutouts, a sticker, and a stamped butterfly image.  To give the embellishments lots of dimension, I used Helmar's Liquid Scrap Dots to adhere them into place.

Glittered Denim Bracelet

Don't you just love it when a stranger admires something you're wearing and you can pipe up proudly, "I made it myself!"?  I know I do!  I love making my own jewelry - there's just something about owning something that is one-of-a-kind.  But did you know you can personalize it even more by creating your own beads and other components from your paper crafting supplies?  You bet you can! 

I'm going to show you a simple way to dress up a plain rolled bead that you can match to anything in your closet and have a custom bracelet (or necklace, or earrings...the sky is the limit!). 

For the basic beads, I used an older self-adhesive denim product but you can use any paper, fabric, or even canvas.  Simply cut it into one-inch wide strips about 6-8 inches long, roll it around a needle tool, and secure the end using Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive  Yes, I said I used a self-adhesive product, but I rarely trust that - especially with jewelry, I want to be sure things aren't going to fall apart so I add an adhesive I know won't let me down! 

Using your needle tool as a holder, paint designs onto your beads using a paintbrush dipped in Helmar Professional Acid Free Glue.  You will need to work quickly to paint your design and roll into your choice of glitter as the glue dries very quickly!  Once you have glittered a bead, simply string it onto something (I use a piece of wire) to hang it so that the adhesive can dry thoroughly. 

You will need to seal your glittered beads so that you don't rub the glitter off with wear - Helmar Crystal Kote Fixative Spray, Helmar Crystal Kote Gloss Spray and Helmar Crystal Kote Matt Spray are all great choices depending on the look you want for your final piece. 

Now you can string your custom beads into a brand new piece of jewelry and wait for the compliments!  Don't forget to tell them "I made it myself"!

Happy Valentine's Day

This weekend is Valentine's Day. I love this holiday. It celebrates love, chocolate and flowers. You gotta love any holiday that celebrates chocolate! I thought I would share the gifts I made for the kid's teachers. I altered boxes of Chocolate with matching cards.

So this is how the box started out...........

Transform That Frame!

Yes, I will admit it - I have a problem!  I just can't pass up the opportunity to take anything with a flat surface and decorate it.  I HAVE to cover it in paper and embellish it!  I am completely addicted to decoupaging items and generally use decoupage mediums.  However, some items just don't take to decoupage mediums as well as others.  Metals are one of these things.  Yes, you can use the decoupage medium, but I've been playing with using the Helmar Professional Acid Free Glue and the results are just so much better on metal! 

Yup!  That frame was originally not only metal, but cheap, soft metal from a dollar store!  I came across this frame and just loved the scrollwork and picked it up. I brushed on the Helmar Professional Acid Free Glue with a paintbrush and smoothed on the patterned paper.  After it dried (which is quick), I used a craft knife to cut away the excess paper.  Next I trimmed out a pice of paper to fit behind the scrollwork and attached that from the back of the frame the same way.  The flowers were added using Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. 

I pulled out some buttons to use for the flower centers, but decided they just weren't "special" enough (ok, and so maybe the frame was lacking that "bling" factor" I love).  I spread some Helmar Professional Acid Free Glue onto a piece of paper, threaded each button onto a needle tool and rolled it through the glue to get a thin layer on the outer edge of the button.

Then I ran the button again through a bit of glitter and set it aside to dry before adhering it to the center of the flower.


This glitter technique was a quick and easy way to add some sparkle to plain old buttons - try it with different colors of glitter, or to color the edges of chipboard as well!

"Dimension obsession" for the big day!

Dimension is an obsession for me...I just love fluff and foof!
I just made this cute little I Love You tag for my hubby's Valentine's Chocolates.

Very easy to create with some good adhesive!

Products used:
Helmar Scrapdots
Helmar Quick Dry 450 Adhesive
Jenni Bowlin Die Cut and Stickers
Fluffy tissue paper
Prima Flowers
Additional products: Jan. Kit from Cupcards To Go

Process:
1) Lay die cut flat upaide down.
2) Adhere Helmar Quick Dry 450 Adhesive to rear of die cut and hold for a few seconds. Dries quickly.
3) Turn over and decorate with embellishments.
4) For lift on embellies, add Helmar Scrapdots to rear of product.
Estimated time: 1 hour or less.

A Quick & Easy Valentine's Day Project

This card was so quick and easy....I know what you're thinking, "No Way!" right? Having the right adhesive makes all the difference. This card is just a couple of scraps thrown together - what gives it the "WOW" is the dimension that the Helmar Liquid Scrapdots provide.

 

I used one piece of patterned paper, 1 piece of cardstock, and a journaling square to complete this beautiful card that can be for your Valentine, sister or just a dear friend. Using the Scrapdots I attached the heart shape to front of the card. While that was "curing" I added dots to the Butterfly and let them set for about 5 minutes. Once they were cured, I added a second layer on top. By adding the second layer, the butterfly is slightly higher then the heartshape, making the card truly multi-dimensional.

 

Add some stickles, a couple of ribbon remnants and that's really all there was too it. Pick up Liquid Scrapdots at your local retailer or favorite online store.
