Dimension gives pop to all your projects

My printer died last week.  I couldn't print out anything....NADA people!  So what am I to do when I feel a huge creative surge and I can't print photos for layouts?  Well I made a couple of cards!  And I pulled out my stash of stamps from Stampendous that they were so amazingly generous to share with the design team. 

Here's what I made -

In this card I stamped on the twill ribbon and sprayed with Glimmer Mist.  I then stamped a sentiment on the die cut.

Do you notice the dimension of the bird and talk bubble?  I used my all time favorite Liquid Scrap Dots to give it a subtle amount of dimension on the card.  That's what is so amazing about the Liquid Scrap Dots - you control how much dimension you want your embellishment to have.  You can add as much or as little as you want!

The result is a fun and simple personalized card.

This card also uses the Liquid Scrap Dots.  I used more of the adhesive to give the image more pop.  I also used stamps again from Stampendous and added Pearl accents from Kaisercraft to the stamped image.

So if you're without a printer (like me) or you are in a scrapbooking funk make a couple of cards and use Liquid Scrap Dots for dimension.  You will be pleased with your creations - I guarantee it!

Fabric Sculpting

My current obsession is sculpting fabric with  Helmar Fabric Stiffener and Draping Liquid This product is easy to work with and very versatile.  I created this nautical bowl to showcase shells and other beach souvenirs – my husband and I have traveled extensively through Mexico on our fishing trips and I am always bringing home bits of the beaches we visit.

 

 

The cast of Characters:

 

Helmar Fabric Stiffener and Draping Liquid

Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive

Helmar Fray Stoppa

Cheesecloth (from fabric or kitchen store)

Rope trim (fabric store)

Corks (big box craft stores)

A bowl to use as your mold

Plastic wrap

 

The How To:

 

1. Invert bowl onto a protected surface, cover with a piece of plastic wrap
2. Squeeze some Helmar Fabric stiffener and draping liquid into a separate bowl (a glass/ceramic bowl is easiest to clean up)
3. Dip pieces of cheesecloth (I cut my cloth into about 12 inch pieces) into the liquid, moistening thoroughly and then wring out
4. Drape wet cheesecloth around your inverted bowl covered in plastic wrap.
5. Let dry overnight, lift your new cheesecloth bowl off the mold and then pull the plastic wrap off of your new bowl.
6. Squeeze a line of Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive around the upper edge of your bowl.
7. Gently press the rope trim into the line of adhesive, making sure to leave at least a 6” tail of trim before you start gluing it around the rim, and at least a 6” tail of trim on the other end
8. Tie a knot in front of your bowl with the “tails” of your rope trim.
9. Slide a bead or cork (I used corks that I drilled a hole through with my Dremel) onto the rope trim and knot.
10. Dab a touch of Helmar Fray Stoppa on the ends of your “tails”
11. Fill with your beach memories.

 

My next example of using the Helmar Fabric stiffening and draping liquid is this flower embellishment for a scrap book layout:

Fabric remnants

Ric Rac, button, brad to use as flower center

Machine Stitching (optional)

Foam paint brush

Glass/ceramic plate for drying

 

The How To:

 

1. Cut flower petal shapes from fabric remnants (I free hand cut mine, but you can use a pattern such as a flower coloring book page)
2. Optional Step:  Stitch around the edges of each petal
3. For each petal, using a foam brush, brush the stiffener and draping liquid on both sides of your petal
4. Mold, scrunch or create the shape you want and place on glass/ceramic plate to dry
5. After petals are dry, attach to your scrapbook page using Helmar Premium Craft Glue
6. Attach a button, brad or whatever you fancy as a flower center using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots to add a little "pop" (I have used ric rac, gathered with a running stitch as my center)

Don't toss those scraps!

I know most of you do keep every scrap and reuse it, but can you believe that up until just recently I threw those precious pieces away. Shame on me, right?

In this economy, we need to make the most of our purchases and get the most from our products. That's why stamps are such a great investment. The word "Investment" makes it sound expensive, but you can pick up a great set of stamps these days for under $10.

How much do you spend on ONE card at your local cardshop? At least $3, and sometimes more then that. Make just 3 cards with a new set of stamps and you've paid for it. Now, what if you make those three cards using scraps? Even cheaper.

I did just that - I used these great "Wild Blossoms" and "Doodlie Dots" stamps from Stampendous to make myself a couple of cards and a bookmark. The catch was that I would only let myself use scraps of paper I had already used for something else. It's amazing how much more "creative" you get when you have limited resources - LOL.

I put all of my cards together with my Helmar Adhesive Runner, and doesn't that first card just "Pop" with the Helmar Liquid Scrapdots? I seriously cannot create without that stuff, it's the best.

Display your memories in style!

 

 

I’m always looking for unique ways to house my scrapbook memorabilia and memories.  I made this ceramic purse in an evening class at the local college.  Once it’s fired and completed, I embellish the outside of the purse with Helmar Adhesives.  Then I made a custom album to fit inside.  Here’s how I did it….

 

 

Supplies Used:

Handmade Ceramic Purse

Helmar 450 Quick Dry

Helmar Premium Craft Glue

Prima Flowers, Jewels, Tea and Silk Pattern Papers and Ribbons

Anna Griffin All Night Media Ornamental Frame

Hardware – Source Unknown

 

 

Instructions:

1.      Adhere ribbons and lace around the ceramic purse with Helmar 450 Quick Dry.

2.      Use Helmar Premium Craft Glue to adhere the metal hardware to outside of the purse.

3.      Create an album with coordinating pattern papers to fit inside the purse. 

4.      Use the Zutter Bind-it-All tool and the ¾” Antique O’Wire to bind the album together.

5.      Embellish the album cover with flowers and metal hardware using Helmar Premium Craft Glue.

 

Now display your album in style!

Set, Spray, Sprinkle & Mist

Here is a hanging frame I made for my friend Angie. Isn't her little girl a doll?

 

 

 

To start, I set a piece of Prima's voila die cut on top of the clear acrylic. Then I sprayed the V2 Vellum Adhesive  all over the top. The Voila is to be used as a mask so after you spray, lift the Voila up and you will see that there is no adhesive where the Voila was. Let sit for 5 minutes. Then I sprinkled Stampendous fine glitter over it. I used my thumbs to rub the glitter in and to remove the excess glitter. The clear glitter is my favorite, but I did want to add just a bit of color so I sprayed lighter colored Glimmer Mists over the glitter. You can see some variances from this view:

 

 

 

Then I decorated it with Scribble Scrabble papers adhering with the 450 Quick Dry. Of course I used Helmar's Liquid Scrap Dots on the die-cut accent. And I only used it on 3 of the corners so my friend can put in a new photo whenever she wants.

Meet our August Guest Designer

I am proud to introduce our Guest Designer this month.  This person is very near and dear to my heart and happens to be one of the most creative people I know.  He also is going to kill me for posting this but what the heck..........he is my Dad. 

I gave him some Helmar Super Strength PVA Wood Glue and PVA Professional Wood Working Glue for his workshop and he gave them a try.  I requested that he send some pictures along the way and now he knows why.  He created this beautiful TV & Entertainment Cabinet. 

So from start to finish I will let the photos tell the story.

Vintage Love

I love the look of all things vintage and the vintage look is HOT right now in scrapbooking and paper crafting.  So when I saw the Antique Acrylic Sealer in my stash I knew I had the perfect project to make!

I recently snagged up an older dictionary at a thrift store for a song and used the Secret Garden collection by Dream Street Papers . 

To make this project I pulled out a page from the dictionary and adhered it to cardstock.  I then spread a generous coat of Antique Acrylic Sealer over the paper and waited for it to dry.  I then cut the cardstock down to size.  Don't you love the old antiqued look that the dictionary page has now?  That's the Antique Acrylic Sealer at  work there!

To create the flowers I found this nifty tutorial over at Kenner Road blog (told you I love all things vintage).  One of them I used pinking shears and the other two I tore.  Cute huh!?!?  Oh and to keep the flowers from coming unraveled and to adhere them to the paper I grabbed my trusty Premium Craft Glue   see how it says quick drying on the bottle?  That's not a joke I simply held down the flower ends and the flower to the paper for like maybe a minute and voila it was done and not moving anywhere!

Now I feel like I have a project that is suitable for framing!  Thanks for stopping by and get scrapping!

A fun project to make for a friend!

 

“Nothing is as comfortable as an old friend” is the quote from the Dream Street Forever Family Rub-ons.  This Match Box Chest makes a unique gift for a special friend or family member.  This box is large enough to accommodate Artist Trading Cards, Business Cards, Gifts Cards, Photos and Mementos.  This cheerful keepsake box is quick and simple to make.

 

  

 

Supplies Used:

Helmar Acid Free Glue

Dream Street Papers LLC & Rub-ons

ColorBox Ink

Crafts Etc! Wood Shoppe Turnings

Making Memories Buttons, Cardstock Tags & Scrapbook Paint

Oriental Trading Large Match Boxes

Prima Flowers

Instructions:

1.      Adhere 3 match box covers together using Helmar Acid Free Glue. 

2.      Paint the match box drawers with acrylic paint to coordinate with the pattern papers.

3.      Measure the dimensions around the three match boxes and cut the Dream Street Papers according to your measurements.

4.      Adhere the papers to the outside of the match box covers using Helmar Acid Free Glue.

5.      Wrap the Bookbelt around the box and secure in place with Helmar Acid Free Glue.

6.      Apply Dream Street Rub-ons to the outside box and even to the front of the drawers.

7.      Embellish with flowers and buttons.  (Hint: To customize the buttons, apply Dream Street Rub-ons to them.)

8.      Punch holes in the match box drawers to install the drawer pulls.

Once your match box chest of drawers is complete it is ready to fill up and give away.  You may want to consider making two of these chests of drawers, one for a friend and one for yourself!

Some bunny loves it....

Well, actually everybunny, oops, I mean every BODY loves it when their adhesive actually STICKS. I can't count on one hand the number of times I've bought one of those "budget" adhesive runners thinking "how bad can it be? adhesive is adhesive" - WRONG. All adhesives are NOT created equal. I hate opening my album a few weeks later to find out that my page have fallen apart.

I wanted to share this layout with you - I used my Helmar Adhesive Runner to put the page together, and I want you to pay particular notice of the ribbon I used. Its one of those stretch felt ones that are IMPOSSIBLE to glue down without it a) moving and b) showing the glue underneath. I used the  Premium Craft Glue and you can't see a thing. No leaking or bleed through.

So what's my point? I know we're all trying to save our pennies here and there, but adhesive isn't the place to do it. You really do get what you pay for, and what good is saving a dollar or two if you have to redo your pages in a few months anyway? If you can't find Helmar Adhesives at your local Scrapbook Store, ask them why not....or better yet, check out the etailers listed on our blog :)
