Glittery Goodie Bag Gift

Who says pretty projects need to be complicated?   Who decided party goodie bags should be filled with plastic and penny candy?

For my daughter's spa-themed birthday party this year, the guests will be getting girly!  After manicures, "mud" facials and lipgloss, the crafting begins.  The girls will each be decorating a candle to add to their goodie bags.  Combined with a mini nail polish, shower gel, and a small bath pouf, they will each have a cute spa favor to take home.

Supplies:

Helmar Adhesives:
    Premium Craft Glue
    Zapdots
    Gemstone Glue
Patterned paper--Pink Paislee (Cupid collection)
Design Adhesives--Clearsnap
Colorbox Chalk Ink--Clearsnap (Sky Blue, Chestnut)
Pink glitter--Clearsnap
2.5" scalloped circle punch
2" circle punch
red gemstone

1.  Punch 2.5" scalloped circle from dotted paper.  Punch 2" circle from white cardstock.  Apply Design Adhesives cupcake to white cardstock.  Peel away protective paper and cover with glitter.  Tap away excess glitter.  Directly apply Sky Blue ink to edges of white circle.  Use white Zapdots to attach white circle to dotted scalloped circle for dimension.  Use Gemstone Glue to attach red gemstone "cherry".

                   

2.  Cut 1/4" strip of striped paper long enough to fit around candle lid.  Use Premium Craft Glue to attach paper to lid.

3.  Cut brown checked paper 1" wide and long enough to overlap around candle base.  Ink edges of paper using Chestnut ink.  Use Premium Craft Glue to glue paper snugly around base (*note*--glue paper strip to itself, not candle base.  For safety, paper should be removed from candle before burning.)  and green flower to paper.  Apply small dot of Gemstone Glue and sprinkle glitter in center of flower.

Nikki Sivils U R My Favorite!

Nikki Sivils Scrapbook U R My Favorite “You, You, You” paper is fabulous.  Creating a layout is quick and easy using this pattern paper as the foundation for your layout.  I love the monochromatic theme, scalloped edges, flourish designs and the little crowns in each corner.  I followed the design in each scallop as my guide for placing a decorative brad, just use a paper piercer for punching the holes.  In the photo below you can see the back of the layout showing the brads.

The edges of the photo were dry brushed with acrylic paint to coordinate with the papers and adhered to the layout using Helmar Quick-Fix Adhesive Runner.  To add dimension to the embellishments, I used Helmar ZAPDOTS. The Helmar ZAPDOTS are not visible unless you peek behind the embellishements.

Elle’s Studio has a huge selection of tags; here I used Saltwater Taffy Journaling Tag as a frame for my number two.  I altered the tag by sanding down the edges and embellishing with a  flower.   As for the flower centers, I cut them off of a floral arrangement and adhered them to the flower centers on my layout using Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.

Feeling Ever so Inspired...

Helmar USA, Inc. is a proud sponsor of Donna Downey's Inspired Event May 13th-15th in North Carolina.  I am excited to be teaching two mini workshops. 

This event is a gathering of art fanatics and an immersion in a variety of arts and crafts.  I get to be there teaching about my favorite Helmar adhesives and art mediums. 

As some of you who have crossed my path knows my life is about art and I feel best when I am creating, gluing, painting, drawing and even coloring in a color book.  And most of all I love to share it with others.  Whether it is a nice gathering of friends in my studio or going to CHA and teaching a class or make 'n take that is what it is all about.  I am excited to hang out with the neatest of neat people, talk art with the artsiest of folks and share numerous gluing techniques with fellow eager crafters. 

I swear I look at that list of artists and wonder if anyone can even pronounce Tracy Weinzapfel.  This is an opportunity to take our show on the road and show off our great adhesives.  I also am excited to mix business and pleasure and hang out with the likes of Donna Downey, Stacey Julian, Pam Garrison, Suze Weinberg........and that only names a few AND....I get to hang out with all the Inspired attendies!

Mini workshop sign-ups go live March 1, 2010.  My two workshops are Thursday and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 pm so I hope those artists are ready for a dose of me at that time.  I can foresee lots of "Awake" tea for that evening.  I cannot wait.

Something special for the nursury :)

Don't you just love babies? I always get so excited when i find out that someone is expecting. I remember how it felt to be anticipating the arrival of my own little ones, so I always try to make something a little special when I get invited to a baby shower.

I made this cute little wall hanging using the "Henry's Brilliance" line from Nikki Sivils. I was inspired by that cute, wise little owl.

 

I put the whole thing together using just one adhesive - Helmar Premium Craft Glue! I used it to glue my paper to the chipboard, to attach my paper to my acrylic tree, to adhere the flocking and eyes to the owl and to put the pieces of chipboard on the ribbon to hang it up. Talk about versatility! Try THAT with our competitors adhesive ;) 
 

 

The quote is a nursury rhyme "A wise old owl sat on an oak, the more he heard the less he spoke, the less he spoke the more he heard, why aren't we like that wise old bird?"

Smitten!

Not just with my kids but with Helmar Adhesive !  Seriously can we talk about the variety here for a minute!?!?! 

For example check out this layout I created




You want to know how many different adhesives I used on this layout?.....5!  Yup FIVE!  I used the Craft Glue, the Liquid Scrap Dots, the Quick Fix Adhesive Runner, and two different sizes of Zapdots.

Now you may be wondering why use so many different kinds of adhesives?  Well for me they are all necessary!  I used Zapdots to pop up my title and clouds but I used the Liquid Scrap Dots to pop up the chipboard bird because I also needed an adhesive to hold the decorative pins.  And of course I can't scrap any layout without my adhesive runner and I needed a good solid adhesive coating on the cipboard accents.

Which leads me to wanting to bring special attention to the chipboard.  See how well the the glitter is coating?  That's because the Craft Glue is super adherent and goes on so smoothly!

I want to give a huge shoutout to a few manufacturers that helped me in the ability to create this project!  All the glitter and inks came from Clearsnap.  They are an amazing company and I have been using their products for YEARS!  And I feel so privileged to be able to showcase their products to you!

And to Pink Paislee for donating this amazing and gorgeous patterned paper.  I used the Cupid Collection which I thought was extremely appropriate to showcase all your love and Valentine themed projects.

They call it...puppy love!

Don't forget to dedicate a few pages in the family album to the non-human members!  After all, they love us unconditionally and provide us with those warm, fuzzy feelings only our pets can give.

I wanted this layout about our puppy's first days with us to have a playful, youthful feel to it.  These  papers from the Nikki Sivils "U R My Favorite" line gave me just what I needed.  White cardstock sprayed with Smooch Spritz from Clearsnap added a touch of sparkle to the page, while our Helmar products bumped up the overall dimension and impact.

Supplies:

Helmar Adhesives
    Zapdots (1/4" black and 1/2" white circles)
    450 Quick Dry Adhesive
    Textured Effects
Patterned paper and cut-outs--Nikki Sivils
Smooch Spritz (Cherry Ice, Gingersnap, Gold Glow)--Clearsnap
White cardstock--Prism
Flowers--Prima
Ribbon-Making Memories
Natural sponge

1. Gather Adhesives:  For this layout, I used 450 Quick Dry Adhesive as a great all-purpose adhesive to work with my paper, photos, and embellishments.  To add dimension and lift , I chose Helmar Zapdots, and to add texture to embellishments I added Helmar Textured Effects.
2. Create Background:  Spray cardstock with Cherry Ice Smooch Spritz (allow Spritz to dry between colors, or heat set).  Spray with Gingersnap, followed by Gold Glow.  Layer papers as shown in project photo, adhering with 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.
3. Add photos:  Adhere with 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. (project photos are 5x5" and 2.5x3")
4. Embellish:  Cut orange heart and "XOXO" sentiment from Cut-Outs sheet.  Brush thin layer of Textured Effects onto pieces according to package directions.  When dry, use natural sponge to create desired texture onto pieces.  I used a small swirling motion.  Allow to dry thoroughly. Cut journaling tag, small orange heart, and "love" from Cut-Outs sheet.  Apply sticker letters to spell "puppy" and layer "love" over heart using 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.  Write journaling around bottom of tag.  Layer embellishment clusters using 1/4" and 1/2" circle Zapdots to achieve desired amount of dimension.

Time for Spring and fun kitchen decor ideas!

Altered Rolling Pin Kitchen Wall Hanging by Pinky

I don't know about you but I am ready for Spring weather, and some Spring creativity!
I was sitting in my kitchen last week thinking about sprucing things up and I stumbled
on my old rolling pin and thought...this would be FUN to play with!

I went into my craft room and grabbed my 6X6 pad of paper from Nikki Sivils
and a wooden heart, and went to town!

Now it took a little more than glue to hold it altogether, I did have to screw the ribbon in
for hanging it safely, but everything else has Helmar Adhesive on it!

I had such fun making this and I hope you enjoy it too and find some inspiration
from it, you never know what will come out of those kitchen drawers!

Supplies Used:
Nikki Sivils 6X6 Paper Pad (My Sweet Cherry Pie)

Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive (on the paper and pearls)
Helmar Super Strength PVA Wood Glue (On the wood areas)
Helmar Liquid Scraps Dots (on the raised pieces for POP)

Creative Impressions Heart Felt

Clearsnaps SMOOCH Ink (on the edges of the paper ruffles)

Various ribbons and pearl strands,
Cosmo Cricket chipboard pieces
Rolling Pin
Wooden Heart

First I covered the heart and rolling pin with paper, making sure to roll all the way around.
Then I created a paper ruffle using Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive
because it holds quickly enough for me to adhere all the folds, then I added ribbon and pearls to cover the seams.
I printed my saying on a piece of Kraft Paper, and places the KITCHEN onto the Nikki Sivils paper and cut them out so they would have an edge. I then painted the letters and attached them to the rolling pin with Helmar 450Quick Dry Adhesive.
When I went to place the ribbon for hanging the rolling pin, I drilled a small hole in preferred place, then I made a hole in my ribbon, then used a smal screw to attach and covered with Helmar Super Strength PVA Wood Glue for extra strength.
Yes this project took a while, but it was so fun! I would love to see if you create an altered rolling pin!
