Mixed Media canvas's are all about layers and layers of different types of elements with fun techniques thrown in. Helmar adhesives are perfect for mixed media art...there is a Helmar product for every technique! This canvas is a 16 x 20, that I was lucky enough to pick up in a two pack at Ross of all places for just 5.99...can you believe it? Score!!!
I began with a blank canvas. My base is a mixture of Glimmer Mist and Paint randomly applied to personal preference.
I love using burlap, so that was my next layer, along with patterned paper which was torn and crumpled. These were applied with Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste. These items do not need to be flat, bumps and folds are great and the Decoupage and Craft Paste adheres them perfectly, leaving the dimension.
My next layer is photos. I applied them with Helmar Zap Dots which are a great choice when you have an uneven surface.
I chose to have a title on my canvas so I cut the letters on my Cricut and adhered them with the Helmar 450 Quick Dry and when dry I used the Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste over them.
I added a border around the letters with some Stickles to make the title stand out.
The next layer is embellishments. I tucked in some flowers here and there using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots to adhere, again the perfect product for an uneven surface. Dew Drops, gems and mini glass balls were adhered with Helmar Gemstone Glue. Buttons and trim were added using the 450 Quick Dry. The chipboard frame was added using Liquid Scrap Dots.
As a final touch I cut some graphics from the papers I used on the base canvas and used Helmar Crackle Medium on them. Once dry I rubbed some ink over them to accentuate the cracks.
My last step was to use Glossy Accents here and there, it really brings out the color where ever you apply it. And then I let it all dry.
Without Helmar Adhesives this work of art would not have been so easy to complete, there was a product for every situation I came across, and I was able to focus my full attention on creating, not on figuring out how to get everything to stay on. I now have a wall hanging that says "WOW". Thanks Helmar!!
