Altering Fun with Nikki Sivils

Hi Helmar & Nikki Sivils Fans!!!

Are you enjoying this pairing as much as I am?! I sure hope so! I originally was just going to make a card *which I still did* But when I came across this round clipboard ripe for altering, I couldn't resist and had to alter it this morning to add to my post today!!! I was just saying the other day I need to start making lists because, seriously, I felt like I was getting nothing done even though I was going non stop - sooo, I am going to use this fun little clipboard to clip up my to do lists from now on. :D I hope you like it as much as I do!

 
Isn't it adorable? That is because I used the adorable We Are Family paper collection from Nikki Sivils. I just adore it. The little banner was part of a cute journal tag that I cut out and pieced together to look like a real little banner complete with twine. I used Helmar 450 Quick Dryto attach the banner and the twine. I love it because since it dries clear you don't have to worry about such a tiny space to work with and I'm confident it is not going anywhere! I just love all the journaling tags in this paper line and do have in mind a family album that I'm going to attempt one of these days but for this clipboard I just adored the "House Rules" and added some fun inspirational tiny type stickers from Cosmo Cricket as well. This was really fast and easy to do - I adhered the bottom layer of pattern paper using Helmar Acid Free Glueand then took my craft knife and cut around the clipboard - I've seen Tracy do this and seriously it's easy peasy!!! Plus you get the perfect cut EVERY.TIME. I wanted to share how I attached the Ribbon Roses using Helmar 450 Quick Dry:

 
I find it easiest when I'm attaching a long piece of ribbon to draw my line of glue where I'm going to put the ribbon.

 
Then I start adhereing the ribbon along the glue line I just laid down.

 
The glue stays wet long enough to do this so don't worry!

 
And done! Easy Peasy! :D

 
I also created a little house warming card using the same paper line. One of the things that I LOVE LOVE LOVE is that there are 2 sheets of the patterns reduced to 6x6 size which is just perfect for card makers! This was a LOT of fun! I cut out all the little pieces to create the scene and used Helmar Zap Dotsto create dimension with the different pieces. Using the sticker letters from the same line I spelled out congrats! across the top and then stamped New Home under the house. We are in the middle of selling our house and I thought it would be cute to leave the new owners this card..is that weird? haha Just something to bless them as they start their new life and family in the home that blessed us with our family. I don't know, I might chicken out but that is where the idea behind this card came from!

Ohhhh I wish I had a Brain !!!

 Hi everyone (waving from Oz!!!)

One of my most favorite movies is the WIZARD OF OZ, so when Graphic 45 realeased their new Oz papers I nearly hyperventilated Hahahaha.

So armed with five sheets of the same "Scarecrow" papers, scissors, blade, ink and four tubes of HELMAR LIQUID SCRAP DOTS (of which I used 3.5 tubes)  I started cutting, cutting, cutting (oh how I love to 3D everything!!)

 

The above shows the pieces I have used and what it looks like layered with the HELMAR Liquid Scrap Dots

 

Look how with all the layering it pops out of the page..... (how cute is the Scarecrow?) 

  
 

I am going to mount this on a flat canvas for my Newphew Kyden's room.

I also have the four 6x6 pieces as well (need to stock up on Liquid Scrap Dots first)

It's A Fine Day With Helmar!

I decided to jump on the band-wagon, and play with the Helmar Crackle Medium, for the very first time. But it wasn't the only thing I played with, lol! I also used Helmar Permanent Adhesive Runner, Helmar Acid Free Glue, Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots, Helmar Gemstone Glue, and Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. Yes, I pulled out all the stops for this one.  

 

To adhere the cardstock and papers, I simply used the Helmar Permanent Adhesive Runner. Any gemstones that didn't want to stick, were quickly secured with Helmar Gemstone Glue. It's a life saver, that stuff!!!! Especially since it dries clear and doesn't cloud the gemstones - that's an added bonus in anyone's books.

 
These chipboard frames were originally black. I simply covered them with gesso, then painted them brown. Once they were dry I applied Helmar Crackle Medium Step 1. I followed with Helmar Crackle Medium Step 2. I added just a few gemstones for sparkle, lol! The chipboard brackets were also black. A coat of gesso, some Helmar Acid Free Glue, a sprinkle of glitter, and voila!!! Pretty, sparkly brown brackets. Much better, lol!  

 

I adhered my felt flowers with Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive (it never fails me!!!). To add depth and dimension to my chipboard bike (and hand cut flowers), I used Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots.

 

Here you can see all the depth and dimension in my layout, but with no tell-tale white foam or tape. Everything dries clear. So, what's not to love on such a fine day? (-: Right, I'm off to enjoy the rest of this fine day. Do you want to come and join me? Happy scrapping!!!!!

Nikki Sivils and Summer Fun

Happy hump day everyone! It's the middle of the week again already with a big holiday weekend fast approaching. I hope your summer is going well and you're getting lots of great outdoor photos because the "Summer" collection by Nikki Sivils is perfect for scrapping those summer photo shoots! It's so playful and whimsical. It was the perfect fit for these photos of my daughter eating dirt when she was about two years old. I had so much fun working with this line, it's great for pics of your little ones! I hadn't done a two page layout in quite some time, so I thought I'd give it a go and of course it paired up beautifully with my Helmar products. It's so satisfying when projects assemble so nicely with the right adhesives!

On this layout I used Helmar Zapdots for extra dimension. I love how quick the zapdots are and they're nice and strong. Here's a little tip, if you use up your last circle shaped zapdot you can also use the sheet that they come off of. Just cut off a piece that fits what you need and peel the backing off both sides. Waste not want not right?!

Banners are still quite trendy in scrapbooking right now, yet I haven't done many of them so I really wanted to use the cute banners from Nikki Sivils papers. I topped each banner with an epoxy heart using Epiphany Crafts heart studio tool. The smaller printed images in the "Summer" line worked perfect for this! I used Helmar Premium Craft Glue to adhere the epoxies and felt flowers and Helmar 450 Quick Dry for the paper flowers and Helmar Gemstone Glue for the gems in the center of my flowers.

nikki silvis in the hooooooow-se!!

 
So, we have a tradition in our family (passed down by my Dad) where you get icecream for breakfast on your birthday.  As to avoid conflict and disdain, siblings also get to share in the celebration and have icecream for breakfast in honor of the birthday kid.  It is the best tradition EVER.  You should try it. :)

I used Nikki Silvis' SUMMER paper line for this layout.  In this line, there are quite a bit of fun papers, cut-outs, and stickers to choose from.  I really like the pastels and fun designs.

I used my all time favorite Helmar adhesives.....

             
 

...to complete the project.  And I am teling you RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW that if you want chipboard to stick to a page and STAY PUT, get yourself some Quick Dry or Acid Free Glue (see above).  It is awesome!

Cracking up a little gift set

Today I put the call out for a preference for me to post an off the page project or a layout.  Seeing that off the page won, here I am to share with you a little gift box and card set I made today.  I have a lucky lady in mind for this little set, so I just can't wait to gift it.  

In creating it I got busy with my Helmar Step 1 & 2 crackle, Helmar Decoupage and my Helmar 450 Quick Dry.  

I have had these little boxes for a while... well since before I got married 6 and a half years ago as they are from our Wedding rings.  Not being used in any sort of way I decided to alter them.  

I started by using the Helmar Decoupage to cover the box with torn pieces of old book paper.  I had the text going every which way.  It doesn't matter as it is simply providing some extra dimension to the project, it will not be seen a great deal.

After it was dry i gave it a light rough paint with some cream paint.  I wanted some of the text to show through so I painted it sparingly and not too dark.  (sorry forgot to take more step by step photos - but I am sure you can see the rest in the end product photo).

After the paint was dry I applied the Helmar Step 1 & 2 crackle and allowed it to dry. As it is winter here, I wasn't liking my chances of it drying in time for me to get a chance to decorate it todya.   Gee to my surprise it was done in a couple of hours.  I did cheat a little and placed it on the ledge of a window that was in full afternoon sun.  It dried a treat in the warmer temperature.  I will definitely be doing that again!  

After it was dry I wanted to accentuate the cracks I had just created, so I rubbed it over with some antique gold Rub n Buff.  I just love this stuff as it gives beautiful old feel to it and the tube seems to just go on forever!  After I rubbed it on the crackle I buffed it a little with a tissue to remove some excess and really show off those cracks.  You can see the effect pretty clearly in this detail shot.  The text still shows through without being overpowering but I just love the extra dimension it adds.  

 

I didn't want to take away from the crackle too much but to decorate it used some beautiful Prima flowers and cut outs from the Madeline range, along with some crystal vine, Hambly Screen print acetate cut out flowers and trim, all adhered with my Helmar 450 Quick Dry.  To give it a little more of a Shabby Chic feel I added some cream paint to the edges of the box and the flowers.  

 

To create the the card I did some fussy cutting and adhered it altogether with my Helmar 450 Quick dry. It was especially useful for the crochet doilies and lace.  It was so quick to put this one together once I knew what I was going to do as the 450 dries so quick I didn't need to hold it in place for very long at all. 

At a class I taught recently some of the students asked me how to avoid a string of glue following the tube as you lift it from your project. Helmar 450 is great for this not happening as long as you don't let the glue dry on the end of it and you simply scrape the edge as you lift it.

Scrapping out of the box with Nikki Sivils and Helmar!!

I am enjoying the partnership between Helmar Adhesives and Nikki Sivils so much!!!  Hope you all are enjoying and being inspired by all of the projects the teams are creating this week!!!  I received the Max & Mollie line and the We are Family line to play with and I decided to stay on my out of the box kick that I have been on....meaning projects other than layouts :)  When I do that I use just about every Helmar product I have in my scrap studio, lol!

So what I decided to play with first was the Max & Mollie line and continue on my mixed media/canvas kick I have been on.  I am using a 6x6 canvas that is about an inch and half deep:

I started this project with the canvas, Tattered Angels Chalkboard mist and some bubblepack.  I sprayed the entire canvas including the sides, actually drenched it pretty good and then I used the bubblepack to pat on and remove paint as I went, it took awhile but the result was awesome!!!

I did add some rubons to the edges as well, very random and I wasnt careful about how they went on....so freeing!!!  I think it would be really cool to paint the canvas a color then spray and then pat off some of the paint with the bubblepack too...next project :)

Once the canvas was dry I brushed on a heavy layer of Helmar Acid Free glue and applied the Nikki Sivils paper that I had previously wet, crumpled and distressed and then dryed.  While this was drying I cut out a sun from another NS paper and my photo and applied the Crackle Medium step one and when that was dry, about a half hour later step two of the crackle.  I applied the step 2 Crackle Medium on the photo with a one inch foam brush and had something happen that I havent had happen before......huge cracks far apart......so cool!!!  Once the Crackle Medium was dry (the next morning) I rubbed some Tim Holtz Distress ink over the sun and the photo and then rubbed it off, this makes the cracks show up alot more...gives it more of an antique look.  To finish off my canvas I did some fussy cutting of some more of the Nikki Sivils papers and applied them with Helmar Liquid ScrapDots and Helmar ZapDots for great dimension!!  The ScrapDots work great when you are working on an uneven surface.  Some Nikki Sivils stickers from the Max & Mollie sticker sheet and a title finished off my canvas.  Once everything was dry I used the Helmar Antique Acrylic Sealer to seal the entire canvas.  I just adore how this project came out!!!

Now...I am not done yet, lol!!!  With the We are Family line I decided to tackle a project that my grandson requested.....really out of the box this time.  My grandson Trevor will be 5 next week on the 7th of July.  Trevor is completely obsessed with the LalaLoopsy dolls and I mean completely, you never saw a kid so crazy over a toy.  So of course he wants a LaLaLoopsy cake which a friend of the family is going to decorate using the dolls and such, but he wanted houses too.  They have these cool whimsey looking houses much like the houses in Nikki Sivils paper line We Are Family. 

So what I did was freehand cut out pieces of the houses from plain white cardstock and then adhere the Nikki Sivils papers with my handy dandy Helmar Adhesive Runner!  Then I got out the Helmar ZapDots and had those squares flying as I put my houses together!!!  I used my Epiphany Crafts Button Studio to make the various buttons I used and adhered them with my Helmar 450 Quick Dry.  The Helmar Liquid ScrapDots worked great for the trims..I just put a thin line where I wanted my trims and applied, easy peasy!!  I added a couple of Robins Nest Dew Drops for door knobs and flower centers and adhered them with Helmar Gemstone Glue.

Trevor was over the moon when he saw them this morning and once he figured out I was taking pictures of them with a few of his LalaLoopsy dolls he wanted me to use ALL his LalaLoopsy dolls AND their pets, check it out:

And there you have some out of the box scrapping with Helmar and Nikki Sivils!!!  I had fun....hope you did too!!!

Flying High with Helmar and Nikki Sivils!!

 
Happy Monday everyone! What a fun week we have planned using our favorite Helmar adhesives and some great paper from Nikki Sivils paper line!

A couple of weeks ago we took a day trip and my son got to fly on a airplane for the first time! I just love this picture I took of him when we actually got him to look out the window!! I thought it went great with the Nikki Sivils, We Are Family paper line! I had fun doing some fussy cutting with the Family Border Strip sheet and the Family Cut Up sheet! I like to add dimension to my layouts and on this layout I used Helmar's Liquid Scrap Dots and Helmar's ZapDots. I also used my favorite glue, Helmar 450 Quick Dry to attach my buttons to the ends of the banner and to glue my journaling shape down (which that and the bottom part of my banner is made using The Crafters Workshop template) For the tree, bow, and the border of houses I used Helmar's ZapDots to pop those up. For the frame around the photo, I have a HP Photosmart Printer (you know the ones that are portable and only print 4 x 6 & 5 x 7) It comes with some really cool software that allows you to add frames and this was one of the ones included in it!

I would like to say thanks to Nikki Sivils for letting me play with these fun papers! I hope that you will get out your favorite Helmar products this week and get inspired to create something fun! Spring Party~with Helmar and Nikki Sivils!

 

Hi everyone~today Helmar is partnering with the fabulous Nikki Sivils for the entire week.  I had the opportunity to work with her paper line called "Summer" even though the name of my blog post is Spring Party, here in Texas, Spring is close to Summer so the paper was a good fit!!  I had so many cute pictures, I decided to do a double layout.

 

The papers are so cute and the images are adorable for children~the papers included a banner, so I took advantage of that!  I traced my lines on the paper and then sewed with floss to get the line that would hold my banner. I attached the banners pieces with Helmar's Zapdots. 

 

The heart buttons are by Epiphany Crafts.  The dew drops by The Robin's Nest were adhered with Helmar's gemstone glue.  On the small pieces of pattern paper I used Helmar's Professional Acid Free Glue, with a paint brush, to adhere them to the paper.  A great way to get the glue right where you want it. I enjoyed working with Nikki Sivils beautiful paper line, it could not have been more perfect for what I was wanting to scrapbook.  On a side note, the Spring Party ended up costing Nini and Grandy about $75.00 ~next time I'm told to bring mayonnaise and turkey sandwich that's what I'm going to do ~ maybe, probably not.  Thanks for stopping by today ~ see ya soon!   by: Connie Mercer~Helmar DT
