Decorating on a Dollar - Trick or Treat Wreath

Hello once again!

Today I am going to show you how to take a 12" $1 store foam wreath and turn it into an 18"-20" holiday decoration.

Begin with a $1 wreath from the Dollar Store. Some Acid Free Glue from Helmar and a smidgeon of water. I thinned out the Acid Free glue with a bit of water in a disposable cup. Using a brush with the glue and strips of newspaper strips to the wreath. I chose this glue because of the finnish it has when it dries. It sealed the paper with tough, flexible surface.

Once the wreath is dry use Helmar Premium Craft Glue to help adhere book pages that are rolled and stapled in a cone shape.

Using Helmar Premium Craft Glue allows a little slower dry time for you to place and adjust the book pages into a circle and place the points where you like them. Continue all the way around the wreath adding width and volume. You need to have a hole about 5"-6" wide in the center.

Print a circular frame off of the computer on cardstock. Cut a circle around it and ink the edges with a complimentary color to the crape paper in the next step.  Place it upside down for the next step.

Using Premium Craft Glue from Helmar, glue black (or any other desired streamers) crape paper streamers around the back of the printed frame.

Measure the center of the printed frame and cut a circle out of coordinating (with the desired glitter as seen in the first photo) cardstock to fit inside of it. Spray Helmar V2 Vellum Adhesive to cover the entire circle and let it sit (per instructions on the back of the can) for a few minutes.

Then glitter with desired color of glitter. Glue this circle into the center of the printed frame with either some Helmar V2 Vellum Adhesive or Helmar 450 Quick Dry. Using a die cut machine cut a silhouette image out of black cardstock and use Helmar 450 Quick Dry to adhere it to the center of the printed frame and glittered circle. I used the trick or treat witch image from the Cricut Cartridge "A Child's Year".

 

Glue the Printed, glittered image over the center of the wreath and use Helmar 450 Quick Dry to glue it down to the inside fo the rolled book pages.  Once dry tie a ribbon or string around the top of the wreath to hang it from the back.

Creating a House Warming Gift.

It has been so much fun spending some time this month as a Helmar Guest Designer and creating some fun projects and seeing everyone elses AWESOME work and comments! What a fun group of creative people!

This week I had fun glueing together a little box to give to a friend as a house warming gift.First I used acrylic sealer to put some lovely paper from Fancy Pants onto the box.

I wanted to get a nice aged look from the Distressed Ink from Ranger that I was using so I first used sand paper and rough up the edges.That way the ink got to the sanded edges but not to where the sealer was.

See how the ink can now get nicely to the paper but the acrylic sealer protects the rest of the paper.

I then used Helmars Premium Craft Glue to stick on the rest of my paper embellishments. For the fancy metal embellishment from Prima Marketing Inc I used the handy dandy 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.

Gotta luv getting getting sticky and creative!

Welcome gift~

 

Hi Helmar fans!!! I'm so eager to show you my " in the middle of the night" brain storm!!!  The main ingredients are Helmar 450, Helmar Acid Free, Helmar V2 and Helmar Zapdots. You will need some pattern paper and a tin box.  The pattern paper I used is by Pink Paislee and the tin box is by Stampin' Up!

 

The first thing I did was cut the paper out with an X-Acto knife and glue it in the tin using Helmar 450.

 

I used old milk caps and glued magnets to the back of them {using Helmar 450} and placed those inside the lid.  I then used Helmar's V2 to adhere the pattern paper to the coaster. I sprayed front and back and then inked it with black ink.

 

 

    
With the inside complete~I then started on the top.  Any paper touching the tin was glued on with Helmar's 450 and paper on paper was glued on with Helmar's Acid Free.

 

The tin box can act as a memo board also.  The box can be opened at an angle and can be placed on a desk or counter top.

September sketch challenge- it's nearly time.

The month is almost up and that means that time is almost up to enter our Stick with Helmar in September, sketch challenge for the month. You can check out what several of us did as samples, and get all the details here.

I thought I might take this oppoprtunity to show my sample in a little more detail and perhaps give you that extra little reminder to get your entry in. Lydell provided us with a grreat sketch, but I always find it a little tricky to stick exactly to a sketch...and isnt that what's so great about using sketches for inspiration- you can change them up to suit yourself. 

So, with that in mind, I collected my selection of photos and started to plan out the arrangement paying attention to the varying sizes. It became apparent however that the circles were not going to work with the photos I had chosen. Too much of the important details would have been trimmed away, so instead I stuck to rectangular photo but stayed with the arrangement provided in the sketch. I added a few of my own touches and was all done. 

Don't forget to use your favourite Helmar products. For this layout, I used Helmar Quick Fix Adhesive Tape Runner.

So, who is up for the challenge? You still have time. We love seeing what everyone comes up with.

Where would we be without our GLUE???

My second child arrived into this world just days before Christmas, so you can imagine how many things fall off the wagon when a child arrives in such a busy time of year.  Truth is it took me months to start to get on top of things and well, his 'thank-you' cards for all the lovely well wishes and gifts we received for his arrival were a bit (and when I say bit I mean LONG OVERDUE) late in getting out.  

It was mainly due to wanting to create something special (as I did for child number 1).  Although it became unrealistic to hand make each one as I did for my first child (much easier when you only have one child keeping you busy) I wanted to it to be just as special.  I then decided to create a 12 x 12 layout that would go in his album showing a journey his first 6 months.  Once finished I photographed the layout and printed them onto postcard size cards that I had pre-printed a message on the back of.  They were then ready to pop in the mail and send off.  

I also now do this for birthday invites as although super special to you it is unrealistic to think that everyone will keep them.  You however get to put that original invite into their albums.  

This is the layout I created.

I first created the background using some Gesso and acrylic paint.  The circle strip was sprayed with Tattered Angels chalkboard, the words with Glimmermist,  and the stars with glitter.  I sprayed the back using some Helmar V2 prior to placing the pieces of paper and photos to the back of the circles.  I then adhered the circle border down using some Helmar 450 Quick dry (to ensure it wouldn't go anywhere) whilst using the same glue to adhere the photo sitting on top of the chipboard piece.  The page was then embellished with rub-ons, liquid pearls, tags and twine.  The remainder of chipboard word pieces and tags were adhered using some Helmar liquid scrap dots to give a little extra dimension.

A little bit of this and that!

Hi Helmar Fans!!!

I wanted to share with you what I've been creating lately using my favorite Helmar products! Just kind of a random, what I've been up to lately post.....

First, I want to share with you a gift bag I made using Helmar Acid Free Glue, Helmar 450 Quick Dry & Helmar Zap Dots!!!

 
Is it not the cutest?! I think so! I love creating special gift bags like this - one of a kind - I honestly can't remember the last time I bought a gift  bag! These kraft bags are very inexpensive - they come in packs of 6 and I just adhere pattern paper using Acid Free glue to match whatever the occasion. Creating pleated ribbon like that as an accent has never been easier now that I have Helmar 450 Quick dryin my adhesive arsenal! Just a quick pinch as I fold along and it's perfectly staying in place. Of course, I wanted that adorable stamped onesie to stand out so I place 2 circle zap dots on the back. Quick, easy & ready for the perfect little baby gift!

 
The next project I want to share is a card I made the other day. I recently got my hands on these gorgeous new Tim Holtz butterfly dies and finally figured out (sort of) how to run them thru my cuttlebug to cut. See, I don't have a sizzix machine but I love these Tim Holtz dies so I make do. ;) I knew I wanted them to look like they were just resting on the card so I dabbed a few dots of Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots and perfection, I got the nice angled dimension I was looking for!

 
Here is a close up/side view of the Liquid Scrap Dots in action! These are so much fun to use, seriously, You've gotta try them to really become a believer! :D

So, that's it for me! I am so glad I can share what I've been making lately and show you how everything I make has a bit of Helmar in it.

Welcome Fall Helmar Style!

I LOVE Fall!  I love the colors, the leaves, and Halloween!  So it really is my favorite time to get a little artistic.  Monday I was on LIVE on Helmar's Ustream Channel and I wanted to share the Fall Fun Frame I made:

I want to take this opportunity to thank Helmar Adhesive and Tracy Weinzapfel for letting me share some of my projects as a Guest Designer for September. So fitting as my last post is my Dream album that I created after Tracy challenged her uStream viewers to create...it will contain my list of lists...my bucket list...my dream list...even my shopping list...LOL!

I used the new Pink Paislee Mistables Collection - 6 x 9 Wood Album and Alphabet and Tattered Angels 2011 Fall Glimmer Mist & Glam collection to mist the the album color and back. Then with my trusty 450 Quick Dry Adhesive I added various paper & metal embellishments from 7Gypsies & Tim Holtz. The stamping on the album and the quote is from Dylusions Stamps.

I love how fast & easy it all went together. I'm looking forward to filling this DREAM album up with my dreams for 2011.

Decorating on a Dollar with Grace

A couple of weeks ago I shared with you a Witches Skull project that was from the $1 store. Since then I have been back to a few of our local $0.99 and $1 stores to find unusual items that I saw potential in.

This week I am going to share with you an idea I fell in love with on Pinterest. The original was done with real pumpkins and if any of you have bought real pumpkins lately you would find they are about the same price as what I paid for these artificial ones at the $1 sore. However, I don't want to remake these every year. So I opted for the fake pumpkins.

Here are your supplies:

• Black lace
• Black feathers
• Black acrylic paint (or Ranger's black crackle paint)
• Black (gloss) and Off White (satin) spray paint
• (3-5) Fall silk leaves
• (3) Artificial Pumpkins (mine are from the $1 store)
• Print "Trick or Treat" (or any other saying) in the desired font on your computer.
• Black Gemstone swirls (say it in crystals by Prima)
• Black Sharpie
• and of course... HELMAR 450

Step 1: Spray paint - the pumpkins with primer or several coats of the off white and the silk leaves with the black.

Step 2: line up the printed "Trick or Treat" on the desired pumpkin and trace over the printed word slowly with the Sharpie. Remove the printed word when done.

Step 3: Fill in the outlined letters with black acrylic paint and paint the stem with also. OR, use gemstone glue to fill in the letters and then glitter or micro bead them. Supper cute!

Step 4: Use HELMAR 450 to adhere the embellishments to the stem. (feathers, leaves and lace)

Step 5: place your swirled crystals onto the pumpkins where desired. (these could also be painted on)

Here you go! Don't you just love it. Now I had all the supplies accept the pumpkins in my craft room. Get crafty and use what you have.
