I just love tuning into to the live with Helmar UStreams and well this week was another week where Tracy did awesome project! I was all prepared to do this one along with her so felt great that I got it started and then finished it off later that day. You can check out the recording HERE.
This is Tracy's journal page and canvas. Two beautiful pieces!
It was so inspiring to be given the idea of taking her journal page to a canvas. Whilst I did change mine up a little (mainly because I wanted to use a canvas I had already done a background on), it is TOTALLY inspired by her. My canvas is a 12 x 12 inch canvas, so I had a great deal of space left over from the heart and so I moved my writing to the background rather than on the heart. When I did this, I felt I needed more embellishment (like that is unusual for me.... NOT) and therefore added more flowers and a chipboard and pearl flourishs.
So I took these and got creating!
To create the heart I wanted it to have a little more 'actual' dimension so I created it out of 'paper clay' and moulded it to go around the side of the canvas. I just love this product as it is really easy to mould and then dries like paper with a slightly spongy feel. I then sprayed it with some Tattered Angels chalkboard in strawberry shortcake and then followed this up with some acrylic paint before adding the heart to the canvas with some Helmar 450 Quick Dry. Like Tracy I added the Helmar step 1 and 2 crackle to the heart. You really need to use this product to see just how awesome it is. It is hard to photograph but has a nice glossy crackled finish which was just perfect for the heart. It also worked SO WELL on the paper clay!
To embellish the heart I first took out my Helmar Fabric Stiffener and brushed some onto some of the paper flowers before putting them into an egg carton lined with plastic wrap. I allowed them to dry playing around with the added dimension the flowers now had and then layered them up with other flowers using my Helmar Acid free glue.
I also dipped my white lace into the Helmar Fabric Stiffener that I mixed with some black acrylic paint to colour it. I then ruffled it and layed it on my craft sheet (non stick surface) to dry. Once dry I added it to the canvas with some Helmar 450 Quick Dry.
I then used my Helmar liquid scrap dots to adhere the flowers, chipboard and lace onto the canvas. I also added some stitching and pearl flourish to the heart before adding the hand writing, and some American Crafts alphas for the passion and heart words. I didn't change this quote either as when I read it, it really did strike a chord with me. And this was my finished canvas now hanging fittingly in my craft studio.
I hope you like my take on the project and take the time to watch the video before giving one a go yourself.
As a second share I have been fortunate enough to have some work published that wouldn't have been possible without my Helmar products. You can see these projects in Australian Scrapbook Ideas Issues 5 and 6. Complete with full instructions.
