A country Kitchen chalkboard and a little sealer

Hi again.....I have another little project today to share.  Its another quick and easy one.

I revamped a frame I purchased into a Kitchen Chalkboard.  I didnt do anything fancy this time,just painted and sealed it, and painted in a chalk board as a gift to My SIL.

Todays featured Helmar Product is Antique Acrylic Sealer.

Wow...is this stuff fun!  I used it today as it was intended, as a sealer.  It toughens up and protects the surface it is applied to, against water, scrapes and scratches.  It added a lovely shine to the frame and it dries fairly quickly.

Here is the finished project.

It started out as a brown wooden frame with glass.  I pulled the entire frame apart and sanded the glossy varnished surface back to take the paint better.  Then I went over it with a wash of white acrylic paint.  I distressed the corners slichtly once dry with some distress ink, just to age it a little.

Then I got out my Helmar Antique Acrylic Sealer.

I gave the whole frame a coat and let it dry, and then coated it again.

This gave a lovely sheen which made the finish look much more professional, with a very light yellowing colour to enhance the country feel of the project.

I Painted the original board insert with black chalkboard paint, sanded it and painted it again approx. 3 times, and once it had all dried I popped it all back together again, minus the glass of course, and the project was complete.  

Very easy.

Now I need one for my own kitchen!

Canvas and Helmar make a great team

My eldest son just loves playing in the garden and I was SO please when I was able to catch these shots.

To create this mini album I started with a Prima canvas album minus the cover as I had another idea for that (you will have to wait for my next post to see what I did).  I used my Helmar Acid free, 450 Quick Dry and scrap dots to put this one together.  

Here is the album I created.

For this cover I created flowers by drying Helmar Acid free (this time in the shape of flowers in different sizes) on my Craft sheet and colouring them with Glimmermist sprays.  You can see the technique of how I have done this by checking out a previous post http://helmarusa.typepad.com/blog/2011/11/splish-splash-with-a-little-bit-of-acid-free.html once dry I layered and scrunched the pieces of dried glue to create a flower.  I adhered them onto the layout using some Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots.  For the remainder of the embellishments I used my Helmar 450 Quick Dry to adhere them to the canvas as this is truly the best fabric bond.

......some pretty ways to "brooch" a subject.....

Hi there!  

Nice to be here today, to share a quick and easy project I made for my Mother-in-Law.  She is an older Mum and loves anything decorative and ornamental.  She really enjoyed these.

I used the good old Helmar 450, for its, fast drying properties, as well as the fact it works well and holds fast on fabric.

So here is what I created using some very pretty flowers from My stash.  Prima I believe! and various other floral decorative bits I could find!

and heres how the back is contructed, forming the brooch aspect of this flower......

The whole arrangement is glued and constructed on this little square of felt fabric.  Plenty of glue, lots of drying time, very easy!

And here are the other ones in the set......

 

 

and I made a little box to house them all.....and very simply decorated the front with some fussy cut flowers and a belly band to hold it all together.

I layered some pretty organza fabric inside and layed all the flower pins inside.  So very pretty!

 

So aside from the drying time, (which happened mostly in the box!)  It took longer to select the goodies I wanted to use, than it did to create the gift.

A Lamp Re-Do with a Little Help from Helmar!

Hi there! It's Carolyn and I am so excited to share another project with you today.  I have been wanting to re-make a lamp I had for my craft room and I relied on Helmar Premium Craft Glue to get 'r done:

I purchased some beautiful Waverly fabric to cover the shade and then added some trim and some embellishments.  I finished by adhering flower ribbon around the base of the lamp.  I used some Helmar 450 Quick Dry to add the gemstones on the flower centers so I would be sure that they would stay put:

Fun stuff! Now I have a lamp in my craft room that is more "me" than any one I could have purchased.  Here's to making your stuff YOURS.....  Helmar can help with that :)

Helmar & Winter Dreams

 

WOW..having you been checking out the eye candy between May Arts & Authentique projects these last 2 weeks? Such talent on this Design Team!

Well here we are in the 3rd week of January already...time is flying.I would like to share with you a project that used 5 different Helmar Adhesives on it. I used the following ~ Helmar Decoupage & Craft Paste, 450 Quick Dry, Premium Craft Glue, Gemstone Glue & Fabric Glue.

 

For this project I tried something I've never done before...a white on white creation. I tend to grab and use lots & lots of color but in this case I decided to really step out of my comfort zone. This is going to be a first in  a series of the four seasons. WINTER DREAMS is done on a 12" round canvas, my favorite type of canvas to work on! 

 

Here are the steps I took  and the products I used. Since I created this for the Tattered Angels DT Call I didn't take step-outs for it but I wanted to share this project to show all the Helmar Adhesives that I used.

STEP 1: I applied several different random layers from books, music and paper to the canvas with Helmar Decoupage & Craft Paste...I love this stuff...after it dries it has a matte finish and you can add pen or color on top of it...that is a plus in my book!

STEP 2: A thin coat of gesso was applied next over all the paper and I stenciled 3 snowflakes with a heavier layer of gesso.  Using Tattered Angels paint mediums I started misting until I was happy with the background. I used the following colors for this canvas: Glimmer Mists in Snow Queen, Iridescent Gold, Bronze, Nougat, Dazzling Diamonds & Pearl. Chalkboard Glimmer Mist in Chalk, Glimmer Glam in Chandelier & Twinkle Toes and Glimmer Glaze in Champagne.

STEP 3: I applied  antique lace with Helmar Fabric Glue

STEP 4: I applied individual antique-set crystals with Helmar Gemstone Glue

STEP 5: Using a Pink Paislee alphabet that I misted with Tattered Angels and applied with Helmar Premium Craft Glue. I used this because I have more time to get the placement of my letters the way I want them.

STEP 6: The last embellishment I wanted to add was a set of Pearl Garland that floated here and there along the top & sides of the canvas. The only glue I trust to hold this in place is Helmar 450 Quick Dry.

Butterfly Heaven!!

Hey There,

Being totally surrounded by men I find myself scrapping away at boys pages.  Occasionally, I get to be a girl and do a girly page.

This page is so very special to me for two reasons.  Firstly, my gorgeous nanna, Vera, passed away before Christmas.  She is such an inspirational lady.  Secondly, my bestie bought me a paper stack of beautiful butterflies and wanted to see what I could do with it.  I love a challenge!!

So, I love the Tim Holtz Mini Paper Rosette Die Cut.  It called for a strong adhesive.  Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to the rescue!!! 

I misted the background with another favourite of mine.  Tattered Angel Glimmer Mist - Dragonfly.  It is such a vibrant colour.

I cut around the butterflies with a craft knife to make their wings pop up off the page. Oh my butterfly heaven.  Isn't it so satisfying when you imagine a page and it turns out exactly the way you wanted it to.

I love everything about this page, my nanna, the butterflies, Helmar, Mini Paper Rosettes, Dragonfly Glimmermist, Unity Stamps and Prima goodness.  These are just a few of my favourite things!!

Your Strength Inspires Me

 

Hi everyone!  Natasha here with a special layout I created for an incredible person... Jennifer Hedger.  She is a woman of strength and a great inspiration to many. 

For this layout, I have used some of my favorite products.

The gorgeous papers, by Pion Design, are called Studio of Memories.  I ADORE this collection!  (Well, I adore ALL of their collections LOL.)

All of the chipboard elements, including this Typewriter ABC Set, are manufactured by The Dusty Attic.  I used Helmar Zapdots (cut in half) to layer my title letters.

I love this Sweet Pea Border!  I painted it white, inked it a slight shade of lavender and decorated the flowers with Stickles.

I used the Dusty Attic chippie called Lacing Tash (yes, that's ME!), to add tulle lacing to my layout.  You can find a tutorial for my Twisted Lacing HERE.  

 

I found this anonymous quote on the internet and I altered it slightly.  I think it describes sweet Jen well.  :o)

All of the stitching on this layout was done by hand.  To create the stitched flourish, I lightly sketched it out with a pencil, poked the holes and stitched.

I created this rose using my favorite flower dies, Rose Creations by Spellbinders.  You can find the tutorial for my cabbage flower HERE.  I used my favorite adhesive, Helmar 450 Quick Dry, because the name is very accurate... it dries quickly!  Love this stuff!

I layer my flowers by using a variety of different adhesives such as Zapdots, 450 Quick Dry and Liquid Scrap Dots.

Altered Marker Storage

Hi Helmar fans!

We had an INCREDIBLE week full of stunning Helmar & Authentique projects. The inspiration was amazing and I'm even more in love with Authentique if that is even possible! For my project, I had a naked marker storage my hubby had built for me after many months of begging since I had long outgrown the one I had. After he built it, I knew I was going to alter it and reached for what has become my absolutely FAVORITE Authentique line called Gathering. One of the things I love that I hadn't noticed until working on my project is that each Authenique 12x12 paper has a beautiful quote on the title strip - on the Gathering line it is "A family in harmony will prosper in everything." -Proverb I loved that and made sure to not cut that off on one of the sides. One of my favorite things about this paper, aside from the great designs the have, is the physical weight and texture to each page. 

So, now on to the pictures!!! 

I used Helmar Decoupage to adhere all the papers to the wood. This worked incredible and I also added a layer on top to seal it before I decorated with the trim and flowers. 

This is one side of the stand and there is the quote I talked about! Isn't it adorable! I just love it! I also stamped using some Unity Stamps on top of the decoupage using Staz-on ink. I adhere all the trim and flowers with Helmar 450 Quick Dry!

This is the back of the marker stand. I made it pretty b/c when I take it to crops I kinda feel bad that I'm putting this up in front of me and whoever sits across from me. Now, at least they have something pretty to look at! :D The Copic image is line art I downloaded a while ago for a contest that Copic Markers was having. I finally colored it - totally missed the contest. *giggle* But it was fitting since this stand will be holding my Copics, of course. ;) The stamp is another Unity Stamp itty bitty.

This is a close up of the flowers that I adhered using Helmar 450 Quick Dry. I hope you enjoyed our week with Authentique, I know I did and now I have something pretty sitting on my desk as I reach for my favorite markers.

An Authentique Card

Hi Everyone!

This is our week to show some projects with Authentique products.

I choose the beautiful "Gathering" collection to create the card I'm sharing with you today.

The paper is so pretty that I didn't want to distract from it by adding a stamped image. I simple picked a flower to make the focal point by adding some glitter. I also snipped some of the leaves from the designer paper to embellish my hand written sentiment.

I used Helmar's 450 Quick Dry Glue to add the glitter to the brads and around the edges of the center panel, Helmar Zapdots to affix the center panel and sentiment, then attached some sparkly black ribbon and put it all together with Helmar Quick Fix Adhesive Runner.

Helmar and Authentique are the perfect team which is obvious by the posts the other girls have done this week. If you haven't checked them all out, there's no better time to do it than now! :)
