Spring Mini Canvas & Helmar

We must remember that April showers bring May flowers. Spring is here and for some areas it came earlier than usual but this season is always one for rejuvenation and re-birth. The colors change along with the weather. Here is a small mini canvas wall hanging created with the promise of color and flowers.

 

After misting my Prima canvas & flowers and wood embellishments from Kaisercraft & Maya Road with various Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists and a Crafters Workshop stencil I started to apply the 1st layer with HELMAR Premium Craft Glue...I wanted a slower drying time so I could work with the placement of these items.

Once I was happy with the placement I switched to HELMAR 450 Quick Dry for it's properties of quick dry and super strentgth to attach the Maya Road butterflies and May Art Ribbon.

The final step was to apply the chipboard letters but I knew I needed to stagger and lift some as I didn't have enough room. So after playing around I decided to use HELMAR Premium Craft Glue for the bottom layer and lift the second layer with HELMAR Liquid Scrap Dots.

After completed I realized that I needed one more butterfly flying out of the flower...of course HELMAR 450 Quick Dry to the rescue. Here is the final canvas wallhanging ready to hang.

So here is my tribute to Spring...it will hang until we reach Summer! Have a great weekend...time to go get my glue on ;)

April challenge not far away!

Our Helmar April challenge is so close I can almost taste it!  YEP! Not long now until the next challenge is revealed.   So in the mean time just to give you a sneak peek on what you might be seeing in the next sketch I am sharing my take on it as a preview.   

To start with I coated the embellishment pieces with my Helmar Step 1 crackle.  

I then gave each of them a coat of the Helmar step 2 crackle.

As you can see it was a generous coat of the Helmar Step 2 crackle.  Let this dry for a few hours or overnight.  You will see it all clear and cracked when it is dry.  Don't try and speed up this step with a heat gun as it will wrinkle the crack and won't give the desired effect.  Patients is needed for this one!

I then used some cream chalks by Pebbles with on of the reusable pom poms held with the applicator tool to rub some white into the cracks.  I then used a baby wipe to remove the excess.

To do the journalling I first printed my text onto some vellum.  I used my Helmar V2 adheasive to adhere this to some acetate before using the Helmar V2 to adhere it to the layout.  I adhered it to the acetate to give the vellum more strength and prevent it wrinkling on the page.  As it is clear and on the back you don't see it.  I just love this effect as you can see the elements of the layout throught the journalling still.

Here is another detail shot showing the crackeled embellishments... love these!  Also look at those paper buttons... they look so much more effective with the use of some Helmar Liquid Scrap dots to give them a little height.

This is the completed layout.  I just love the colours.  And my Helmar products have really added to the interest of the page.

Helmar is the glue for necklaces~perfect every time!

Hi everyone!!! I have been making necklaces, a bunch of them.  I thought I would share that with you today.

My cast of characters that get the job done, Helmar Acrylic Sealer, Helmar Gemstone Glue and {my favorite} Helmar 450 Quick Dry.  So here we go~

I started with 7/8" x 7/8" glass tiles and some bird graphics.  I used Helmar Antique Sealer on the back of the tile and then setting it on the paper {with the bird image on it} and let it dry.  I then cut it out of the image paper.  Now I have my bird image on the back of the glass tile, I then glued the pendant bail onto the  back of the glass tile with Helmar Gemstone Glue.  The next step I glued felt to the back of the tile using  Helmar 450 Quick Dry.

Pretty, right!!!  These go pretty fast and the glue works fantastic!! Then I thought about using one as a gift, so this is what I did.

The envelopes are by Tim Holtz and the paper is by Jenni Bowlin.  I used Helmar 450 Quick Dry to glue on the embellishments, to the front of the gift envelope.  Very fun, crafty project!!  Thanks for stopping by today and I will see you soon!!!  by: Connie Mercer ~Helmar DT

Tips on Using 450 Quick Dry

Today, I wanted to share some tips on using Helmar's 450 Quick Dry. This adhesive can be used not only on "hard to adhere" surfaces but also as a "tack" glue.

One of my pet peeves with creating bows on my layouts is how my loops always flop the wrong way. You know what I mean? You untie it and try again over and over until you want to forget it all together! I have noticed when teaching classes, if there is a bow on a project, everyone starts showing signs of perspiration!  Follow the steps below to give you control on those stubborn embellishments.

1. To make these little flags, by Elle's Studio, I cut them out, and folded them without pushing too hard. I then used a small dot of 450 Quick Dry to tack the toothpick in place. I left it alone for a minute to dry completely.

2. To make my bow, I wrapped the twine around the toothpicks and added a small dot of Helmar's 450 Quick Dry and knotted again. Sometimes just wiping the lid across is enough.

3. I then tied my bow. I tied it just like I tie my shoes. Don't worry about what it looks like.

4. Then, adjust your loops. Wipe the end of the glue bottle on the back of each loop and press down. It will not move!

5. Cut the ends of your ties to the length you want.

Stand back and do a victory dance! That bow had nothing on you!

...a fond farewell.

Hi, everyone,

Jess here and I can't beleive that it's been almost a whole year as a Helmar DT member.   I can't believe how quickly time flies, but today I have one more post to bring you before I bid you all farewell!  Now of course, in saying that, you guys KNOW I will not be a stranger...Helmar products will continue to line my drawers and cabinets here in my little crafty haven here, because well...they're the best!

As luck and timing would have it, my boys' rec league basketball season just ended as well and I wanted to put together a mini-album to give to our amazing coach to bid our 2011-2012 season farewell also :)

One of the blessings of being a Helmar Designer is not only working with the fantastic product, but with some preferred partner products as well and I have two in the spotlight today!  This cute "Play" album by Maya Road:

...and all the paper is from Bella Boulevard's "Making the Team" line.

I started by coating each page, front and back with ACID FREE GLUE.

I glued everything down and used a kraft knife and sanding block after the paper was laid down.   This didn't take long at ALL, and then it was time to do the photos!

In fact, the part that probably took me the longest was the "PLAY" word on the front cover, but after some sanding and distressing, I love how it came out.

I used PREMIUM CRAFT GLUE to stick down my matted photos and I have to say, the best part of this whole project was seeing the look on the coach's face after he received this. 

I had the boys sign the back cover before we presented it to him last night.  It was a WIN for sure :)

...and well, there you have it!  A fond farewell to commemorate a job well done and I sure do hope you guys feel the same about me during my time here as a Helmar DT member.    I am so grateful for the opportunity and also the friendships made during my time here.

Journey Canvas

Hello there! It's Carolyn here to share a little desk decor item I made with the help of some of my favorite Helmar products:

I found the itty bitty canvas (3 x 3) at Jo Anne's and I couldn't resist buying some.   At about the same time I received a stamp order I had placed and was a little disappointed that the sentiment I purchased for a larger canvas was so small.  But...it was PERFECT for this mini!

I covered the canvas with some paints (ivory, light blue, black) and added some mustard reinker around the edges.   After the paint dried, I added some rub ons and stamped the sentiment using Staz On ink. 

I used Helmar Decoupage and Craft paste to add the piece of paper that I stamped the word "journey" on.  After applying the rub ons, I added a thin layer of the paste over to ensure that they would stay. 

As a final touch, I added a fabulous FabScraps Key using Helmar 450 Quick Dry.  I tied a bit of May Arts string around the edge of the key.

I love the little inspiring quote that greets me on my work desk every day:

Usher + Helmar = Perfect

Hi Everyone,

I have been wanting to do a layout of my favourite concert ever!!  Usher - OMG!  Well OMG does not even describe how fantastic I think Usher is.  Needless to say, whilst I was creating this layout, I got a little hot!  You can see why, the man is amazing!  LOL  I had so many things I wanted to fit onto a layout that I decided to turn it into a double page layout.

I most certainly got my glitter on doing this layout.  Also got a little futuristic and worked with some metal sheets, which I embossed.

I used Dusty Attic Music Chipboard, which I painted and glittered.  I went to my local music store and purchased some sheet music to Usher's "DJ Got Us Falling In Love".  I used Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste to make the background.  I then used Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist to spray some red to incorporate the colors.

I used some alphabet chipboard and then cut my sheet metal to fit.  I used a Cuttlebug Embossing Folder - Allegro.  Then I used Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to stick the metal lettering to the chipboard and then onto the page.

I used some Kaisercraft overlay for the piano keys.

What a fun girls weekend we had!

I definately enjoyed making this double page layout.  Got my glue on in a massive way!

New Helmar Friend

Hello all,

Michelle here in Adelaide, South Australia.

As most of my fellow scrappers know I am a mad crazy hand cutter and love to also hand colour images to add to my layouts and cards.

Well you may ask what has this got to do with Helmar adhesives ???

I was lucky enough to get some happy mail the other day

And "YES" I was more than spoilt to get all these Helmar goodies.

So to cut a long story short.. I was is need of some more water colour paper for my digital stamps that I hand colour. UNFORTUNATELY I was unable to get the quality of paper I normally get, as I wasn't at a craft store, but my local shopping centre.

HOWEVER.. I did come across two A4 water colour 30 sheet pad that were ONLY $1.10!! Now I am not one to resist a bargain and they BOTH ended up on my trolley!

So I got home and printed off my digital images and went to water colour them,as I would normally with my water colour pens and water brushes only to find that the darn ink from the images started to run!!!

 I was getting really frustrated until I realised that the paper was of a much lighter weight and I needed to find a solution quick!

This is where I made friends with a Helmar product I had NEVER tried and now LIVES in my adhesive trolley!

Helmar Crystal Kote Fixative!!!!!

Yes.. I know I have you wondering what the heck I did with this.... Well..... I got curious as the whether this would work with water colour paper, digitally printed images and then water colouring. 

All I can say is OMG !!!!! It works a treat !!!!!

It is as simple as printing your images on an ink jet printed onto the water colour paper,  lightly misting the paper with Helmar Crystal Kote Fixative and then water colouring to your hearts content ! It is that simple !!

I then gave the finished image a light mist over the top to protect it before I cut the images out. Here's a few of the cards I created that day that I found my new Helmar Friend !!!

I have found another Helmar product that has surprised me with how well it works.

I am most impressed and cannot wait to get crafting with my Helmar Crystal Kote Fixative again.

Just Play!

Hi everyone!  This is a layout I made using Donna Salazar's new Storybook Collection.  This is such a fun paper line to play with.  I really had a good time creating this layout.  :o)

I used Fiber Paste to create the brick background and added color with ink.  The "PLAY" tiles were cut and embossed using the new Mix'd Media Playtime Dies by Spellbinders.

The Sprockets were cut with the Spellbinders Sprightly Sprocket Dies.  I cut them out of Kraft labels from the Mix'd Media Stax by GCD Studios.  The Sprockets were then embossed with Truffle Mix'd Media Inx embossing powder.

These letter were cut using 'Donna's Alphas' dies and adhered with Zapdots.  I love dimensional layouts so Helmar Zapdots are one of my favorite adhesives.

You can see punched pieces of The Crafty Chronicle peeking out from under the torn paper.  The blue punched edges were embossed with Denim Mix'd Media embossing powder.  I used 450 Quick Dry to adhere most of the elements on my layout.

The sun and clouds were cut from one of the Storybook papers and decorated with eyelets and hemp cord.

I cut these images out  from the 'Storybook Cards' paper and overlapped the images on the 'Fido' paper (with Zapdots, of course). 

Isn't Fido scary-looking?!  Okay, maybe not LOL.

I'v been into making mini-books lately, not sure why but I think because when you have an adhesive product that works that takes a lot of the stress off and makes creating fun! Helmar adhesive products do just that...oh yeah!  

 

My 1st mini-book utilizes several different adhesives to hold hold several different items. I used Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to hold brass findings and chipboard, Premium Craft Glue to hold transparent embellishments and paper and finally Professional Acid Free Glue to hold the inside papers and alphabets.The cover is a Zutter chipboard cover that was painted, stamped and embossed before applying the various components. This book will be utilized for documenting & keeping observations of life in.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The next mini book I created was a cover for an art journal. Again the same Helmar adhesives were used {I know I sound like a broken record} to complete the cover. I used Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to adhere the chipboard butterflies, flowers and leaf ribbon from May Arts, Premium Craft Glue to adhere the burlap from Canvas Corp and the gems from Dew Drop. Finally Professional Acid Free Glue to adhere the layers of Basic Grey and Strathmore watercolor papers and title.

I can't imagine not having Helmar adhesives to create with. I hope you will try making your next mini-book using these adhesives and then let me know what you think ;)
