Late night experiment with Faber-Castell, Dew Drops and Helmar!

Hello Helmar fans, Vicky blogging today with a fun little share...

The Helmar DT recently received a VERY generous parcel of Faber-Castell and Robin's Nest products to play with. I had this little plain white die cut notepad (from the Michael's Crafts dollar bin). I started to play with the PITT pastel pencils, Art Grip Aquarelle watercolor pencils, PITT marker pens and big brushes, really late one night. At the end of playing, I "washed" the entire thing by lightly brushing it over with water and a paintbrush so the colors would blend.

Then, the next day, in real light... I realized it needed some sheen so I took a pink Gelato and smeared it on my finger and rubbed the entire surface. Not only does it shimmer but it seemed to seal the project as well.

 I also added some punched butterflies and Dew Drops from the Robin's Nest. I used Helmar Gemstone Glue to add the drops since that glue doesn't make the acrylic look cloudy and gives a REALLY strong hold.

I used some of the off-white and clear beads from the Fairy Dust Dew Drops set pictured below.

Julie with you here today and I wanted to share a cigar box that I altered for Halloween!

 

Here is the box I started with -- I found it at a local antique store

And here is what I made with it!! I adhered everything with Helmar's Craft Glue and Quick Dry 450!

Life Is Good

Life definitely is good when you have such great product to work with as Helmar, Faber Castell, Epiphany Crafts and Robin’s Nest.  

I started out thinking I would create a big tag.  I dry embossed a piece of paper and then ran my Faber Castell Gelatos down the lines of embossing on it, blending them after with my finger tip. 

I cut it to the tag shape and sprayed it with Helmar Crystal Kote Glossy .  Once it dried I decided I wanted it to be more distressed and muted so I got out my Distress Ink pads and started applying ink over the surface.   Having the glossy coat on it, it resisted the ink just a little, which gave it an effect I really liked. I then cut a backing layer of cardstock and adhered it with Helmar Premium Craft Glue. 

Once the tag was finished I added a bird cage die cut, branches and a bird.   I adhered the bird cage with Helmar Acid Free Glue, allowing it to hang over the left edge and trimmed it to fit.   The branches and bird are adhered using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots.  

As I often do, I changed directions and decided I didn’t want to make a tag so I turned it into a card.  The pattern paper is Pink Paislee paper that I applied more distress ink to to remove the brightness and add some depth to it.  I adhered my card layers with Helmar Quick Fix Tape Runner in the centers so I could stitch around them.

Final embellishments of ribbon applied with Helmar 450 Quick Dry, twine, Robin’s Nest diamond drops applied with Helmar Gemstone Adhesive , and the Epiphany Crafts  epoxy stars, also applied with Helmar Gemstone Adhesive,  brought it all together.  The sentiment is a sticker by SRM Press.

Everything is Peachy with Gemstone Glue and Robin's Nest Dew

 

Good morning everyone! Today I am excited to show you my Peach Festival projects. I love everything peaches so there are a couple of projects to share.

Using one of my all-time favorite glues, Helmar Gemstone Glue partnered with The Robin's Nest Dew Drops I will show you how to create some unique book page flowers and the projects they were made for.

Here are my supplies. I used Faber Castell to water color the book pages to the shades I wanted them to be then Diecut them with some Spellbinders dies. These dies are special because of the fibers in the book pages I would not recommend the Cricut for this project. However if you are using different papers then that machine should work fine.

Adding some Helmar Gemstone Glue I adhered the fabric flower (see tutorial for Helmar fabric flowers) and filled the center with Gemstone Glue.

Insert The Robin's Nest dew drops round side down into Helmar Gemstone Glue and let set till dry.

While these were drying I made some mini peaches from The Robin's Nest's Large Clear Drops. Covering the flat back with Helmar Gemstone Glue and a round piece of paper colored to resemble a peach with Faber Castell PIT Pens and Gelatos.

I then added these flower and peaches to a headband with some tulle and more The Robin's Nest Dew Drops, Champagne color, down the side of the band.

Here are the flower blossoms and the mini peaches dried and set onto the final project. I love Helmar Gemstone Glue, how well it holds and how clear it dries. I pairs perfectly with the The Robin's Nest Products.

In my little town the Peach Festival is one of the largest events. I tore out the two chapters with the dates on them and reinserted them into the middle of the book next to each other with Helmar Acid Free Glue. The Peach Festival was decoupaged on with Helmar Acid Free Decoupage and Craft Paste

This project as the The Robin's Nest, Champagne colored Dew Drops in the centers of these blossoms.

One fun thing I discovered with this project is that as Helmar Gemstone Glue is drying. It turns from white to clear and it stays very tacky for a while. I decided to try something new with some foil I had about my studio. I put a fine tip top on the bottle of Helmar Gemstone Glue and drew some swirls with it. Soon after the Helmar Gemstone Glue in an area turned from white to clear I ran a sheet of foil across the top of it and gently burnished it with my fingers. Pealing back the foil it revealed a fun and beautiful way to free hand just about any design in a foil finish.

I have limited my work with foil to only using it with tapes and runners but this has opened a whole new world to me and I am loving it! What do you think?

Enhance a project with The Robin's Nest and Helmar

Have you ever finished a project that you liked, spent many hours on and then realized there was something missing? It happenes to me OFTEN...so I go back and see what I can do to enhance it. I would like to share such a project with you.

Water, the ocean, the sea has a very strong pull on my spirit and is often the subject of what I create. I created this project a few months back for the HELMAR Design Team blog and when I realized that we are highlighting Helmar's Gemstone Glue & The Robin's Nest products this week I knew it was time to ENHANCE!!!

Helmar's Gemstone Glue is a washable glue for plastic, glass bewads, rhinestones, pearls & mirrors...dries clear and won't cloud the gemstones. I chose Sea Glass Tear Drops and Escape Dew Drops from The Robin's Nest to use becasue the colors were perfect for the sand, bubbles and water. Here is the series of steps I used from start to finish to ENHANCE my project:

Sand from Escape Dew Drop Collection ~ apply glue directly to area to be covered if using several Dew Drops, use tweezers to place Dew Drop and toothpick to position.

Making a mess and getting creative with The Robin's Nest and Helmar

This week, the Helmar Design Team have been having a blast playing around with some fun products from

I must say.. that until recently I knew very little about The Robin's Nest and what products they have.

Well.... I have been majorly missing out that's all I can say.

Since I have received some of their products from Helmar and am now part of The Robin's Nest Design Team, I have had a chance to really play around with some amazing products.

As I said in my first post for The Robin's Nest I have ABSOLUTELY fallen in love with their dewdrops.

I think I have used them on every card and layout I have made in the last week. They are so versatile and add the extra pop to cards and layouts alike. I know that I am eager to pop over to the shop and stock up as they are so much fun to play with.

Plus to add to the added bonus I am now in love with their papers. I have been covered in glitter for the last week playing around with their paper ranges. I have never really been a huge glittered paper fan. That was until I received some of The Robin's Nest papers to play with. I have found the quality to be really good and the thickness of them perfect for playing around with and making a huge mess.

And yes... as most of you know I do like to mix it up a bit and play around with my papers.

So.. I got to work when I received my supplies to create this layout.

The base of the layout was created using old book pages adhered using my trusted Helmar Acid Free Glue wash to a piece of pasteboard cut to size and then lightly misted with gesso spray to mute it down. I then spread the centre of the layout with a layer of texture paste roughly and added a colour wash when the texture paste was dry.

The hearts were then created by book page adhered to light card stock using Helmar Acid Free Glue wash, and the others are hand cut from The Robin's Nest paper that I had chosen to work with because of the thickness of The Robin's Nest paper it was perfect for creating embellishments from. I was able to hand stitch them onto the card stock base quite nicely and fold the edges upwards and they help their shape.

I was then able to add that extra little bit of pop to the layout by adding The Robin' Nest dew drops to the smaller black hearts and randomly adhered them using Helmar Gemstone Glue over the base of the layout. I used the clear dew drops, which meant they were able to pick up the colours from the base of the layout nicely.

So super easy to create such a simple layout using some great products from Helmar and The Robin's Nest.

Off to play some more with my Robin's Nest products.

At the Sea With Helmar and The Robin's Nest

This week, Helmar have cross promoted with The Robin's Nest. The design team were given some fantastic products to play with, very spoilt! I created a 'Treasured Memories' Mini Album to store all the memories of my son's adventure to the beach, earlier this year. Only thing left to do, is place the journaling within.

 

 The Robin's Nest have a beautiful variety of embellishments, fibres, ribbons, trinkets and papers.  Not to forget their amazing Dew Drops and Tear Drops, that I have used in this project.

 The Star Fish are also available from The Robin's Nest and really make the beach scene come alive. All embellishments such as shells, starfish, fish, paper, cardstock, and seaweed were adhered using 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.  All jewelled items, such as the dew drops, were adhered using Gemstone Glue - Gemstone Glue is perfect medium for applying dew drops, and other trinkets to projects. Once the adhesive is dry (does not take that long at all) not only will the objects not budge, but the glue is transparent and not seen on a project.

Water-Logged Rub-On's were applied throughout the album - at times cutting in half to add a little character to the page.  Below are pages throughout the book, some have hidden journal areas, and even little pockets.

The background paper is called 'Aquamarine Glitter', and is seriously so beautiful.  Most of the album contains this paper, and cardstock to match.  All paper elements were affixed using Premium Craft Glue.

Helmar and The Robin's Nest {Getting Over My Glitter Phobia}

Welcome back for another day of featuring The Robin's Nest and Helmar Gemstone Glue!

Believe me, I love bling. I love tinsel and shiny things. I even love glitter. Just not on me, my hands, my craft space, or my floor. Maybe it was because I was a preschool teacher and had a bad experience with glitter. Let's just say we used it, then we tracked it through the entire school, church, and then the sanctuary that was attached to the school. Yes, that was me who heard the pastor say (as I quickly escaped through to the parking lot), "Who tracked glitter through the building!?!" My little phobia has gotten worse through the years and now I get anxiety just opening up a bottle of the shiny stuff.

With our challenge of using Helmar's Gemstone Glue along with The Robin's Nest, I thought it was proper time for me to get over my fears and to give this card some extra shine.

The card was made with glitter paper, a glittered die cut, and ribbon by The Robin's Nest.

I then opened my Helmar Gemstone Glue and dipped the end of the thin ribbon into the jar.

Next, I stuck the end of the ribbon right into the  tinsle glitter jar and  dipped the thin ribbon into the glitter! Yes, it doesn't contaminate the jar by sticking this glue inside it! Gemstone Glue is thick and holds its shape.

I carefully glued the other end of the ribbon to the card with Helmar's 450 Quick Dry. Then let your card dry completely. You know the Gemstone Glue is dry when it turns from blue-ish to clear.

Now, I got the glitter jar opened and used some. Next time I might be able to pour a little out...
