I hope you've been enjoying decoupage week here on the Helmar blog! I’m joining in to share a couple of postcards that I used Helmar Decoupage & Craft Paste to adhere pieces and create a durable surface. When I make cards, I often have several layers and that just wouldn’t work for mailing a postcard. The edges and embellishments are certain to get caught on something somewhere along the way and get torn or damaged. I decided to see how the Helmar Decoupage & Craft Paste would work on holding everything down, yet allowing me my layers.
I started out with a 4 x 5.5 piece of cardstock and added my layers, one at a time, with decoupage paste. I wanted to try out various pieces and textures so I used some border punches with detailed edges, twine, ribbon, paper dots, die cut hello and some flower stickers. I did adhere the paper dots down first with Helmar Silicone Adhesive. Since these have a void on the back, I wanted to be sure they were secure to the surface of the postcard before decoupaging. Once everything was adhered, I added a final coat of decoupage over the entire surface. Everything adhered perfectly with no edges to get snagged along the way. Even the twine and edges of the border punches.
I came across a Postcard rubber stamp in my stash and stamped a piece of cardstock with it, then adhered to the front with the decoupage paste. You can certainly print this on your computer or freehand it.
I wanted to try another piece without layers. This one is created with mostly Faber Castell Big Brush Pitt Pens, Gelatos, and stamps. I did add a little spraying and spritzing and then some small letter stamps. For this piece, I poured some Helmar Decoupage & Craft Paste in a small container and dumped in some Art Glitter ultra fine glitter. After stirring it well, I then applied it over the entire surface. This way the glitter is on there to stay and not annoying my mailman with glitter all over everything.
These turn out to be nice sturdy postcards without worry of losing pieces along the way. I love the fact that immediately upon drying they are not sticky! They are ready to go.
