Zapdots Crazy!

Hi!  Katie here. Confessing my new found love of Helmar Zapdots.  Black, white or clear.  Square or round. 1/2" or 1/4" inch.  I am loving them all!  I keep them whole. I cut them. I stack them. I use them on cards. I use them on layouts.  Helmar Zapdots are the bomb!  

Today I am sharing with you a layout of my super cute grandson, Chase.  Chase gives me a reason to use typical boy supplies and colors.  This layout had the opportunity to be pretty flat, but that isn't what I wanted at all so I pulled out my Helmar Zapdots to give height to some of my embellishments.  

 As you can see in the photo below I used 1/4" White Square Helmar Zapdots to pop up the colorful Candi dots. I also used the 1/2" White Round Helmar Zapdots to give height to the vellum rocket ship.  

Here are a couple of cards that I created recently in which Helmar Zapdots gave a height boost:

To lift my heart up over the red tulle bow in "16" I double stacked 1/2" Black Round Zapdots. The double stacked Helmar Zapdots also gave me a place to secure my Maya Road pins.

lovin' me some adhesive runner!

hey there! can you believe it is already the middle of october?! i can't.  the crazy thing is that in illinois today, we are expecting a high of 73!  kinda crazy.  i am looking forward to the colder months when it is too cold to go outside and then i have an excuse to stay inside and scrapbook. :) 

 speaking of scrapbooking...check this out:
this is what happens when you go outside in the winter!  an iceball to the face.  it's important to just stay inside and get crafty.  proof!  i have had trouble in the (very distant) past adhering journaling paper strips to paint.  i used quick fix adhesive runner and it rocked.  see here:

i also used it on all of the papers and photos in the previous layout and this one as well...

it is so sticky...i love it.  i know i have probably said this about 800 times now, but i highly recommend the adhesive runner  is you are a scrapbooker.  try it!

I am a stamper and I enjoy creating scrapbook layouts, working with altered art designs, coloring with alcohol markers, and discovering and working with new products really delight me. My style would be considered as free spirit with a cross of shabby chic.

Whether I am learning a new simple technique or doing an elaborate project, I take great pride and pleasure in all my accomplishments. I enjoy sharing tutorials, simply describing my projects and ideas, and endorsing the products I use.

My name is Jennifer Matott from Art Talk, and I live in Liverpool, New York (Outside of Syracuse, NY). I have two little boys and a husband of 12 years! I am an art teacher in a K-6 public school. I have my BFA in Sculpture and Painting and while I do create my own fine arts, I have found with 2 little ones, scrapbooking has become my creative art form. I've been scrapping and creating mixed media for over 15 years. Mixed media allows me to get creative with imagery and still create a 3D effect using a variety of media. My pages lean towards the dramatic and I love experimenting with papers and pushing the limits of what can be done. Distressing, inking, paints, and textures are a constant in my work. There is nothing that I won't attempt to put into my printer and print images on!  However, I think my goal in all this crazy creation, is to capture my spirit and the spirit of my family on my pages for the future in a style that reflects my love of art.

Currently, I am a design team member of WOW Embossing powders, Get It Scrapped! and Faber Castell. I'm also a new Prima Educator! I've been published in several paper and online magazines, including Scrap N' Art, Scrapbooking and Beyond, Scrapbook Trends, and others. I hope to inspire you to record your memories, feelings, events, and passion in a fun and unique way.  I'm honored to be serving on this design team!

Sally Lynn MacDonald has been a professional instructor for several years, specializing in mixed-media techniques and multi-surface applications.

As the Creative Director for the Art-C brand her focus was expanding the brand beyond its original Artist Trading Card focus to a larger canvas of Mixed-Media and Art Journaling products.  She taught certification courses for Copic on the east coast of the United States and Canada for a period of two years.  She has previously worked for Prima Marketing, doing special projects and coordinating the artist-educator team as well as providing technique-focused blog posts.

You may have seen her on a couple of nationally televised segments on HGTV’s popular craft series, ‘That’s Clever!’.  Her studio was also featured in the Summer 2012 release of Cloth Paper Scissors STUDIOS magazine.

Her prior design team and guest blogger experiences include such wonderful companies as Cosmo Cricket, Hero Arts, Prima, Tattered Angels, Spellbinders and US Art Quest.

Sally Lynn and her husband Neil have been married for twenty-five years and live in Connecticut with their three children, Brianna and the "Twinkies," Cameron and Courtney.

Love Canvas

Hello everyone.

Michelle here from Adelaide, South Australia here to share with you what I have been busy creating.

Just recently I was lucky enough to be able to head up to Townsville in  the northern part of Australia to visit someone who is very special to me.

When I was planning my trip I decided that I wanted to be able to give a little gift as a memento of my visit. So with a little help from some of my favourite Helmar goodies I got creative.

While I was creating I had to bear in mind that I didn't that I didn't want what I was creating to be too girly. I also wanted to play around with many textures and decided to create a canvas.

I created my first dimensional layer on the base of the canvas using my napkin and Helmar Acid Free Glue wash technique (1 part Helmar Acid Free Glue to 3 parts water). Then it was a matter of white washing the napkin base when the napkin layer was adhered and dry.

I then used a plastic laser cut template and some texture paste to create another layer of dimension to the canvas. Once the texture paste was dry I was able to paint the texture paste with some iridescent gold H20 LuminArte. I then added a layer of Helmar Krystal Kote Fixative to seal it all till I put on the next stage.

Then with a little bit of help from some Helmar Krystal Kote Fixative I was able to then add multiple layers of both water based and permanent ink without the worry of them smudging and smearing at any stage.

Once I was happy with all the base layers I had created for my background I then gave the whole base a coat of Helmar Krystal Kote Matte. This helped to seal it all and also too any shine from the Helmar adhesives out to create a complete matte background.

Then the process began of adhering and layering my title and the embellishments.

Now being a canvas, which had multiple layers and mediums on the base, I wanted to make sure that the embellishments stuck hard and fast. So with a bit of help from some Helmar 450 this process was quite easy. I even found that I was able to adhere my metal flowers (mwah to Rae Cooper for these beauties) with ease.

Now to finish off this canvas and give it the final touches I adhered some dew drops to the centre of my metal flowers using some Helmar Gemstone Glue. It dried nice and clear so that the metal of the flowers was able to shine through the clear dew drops.

Now it was a bit of a labour of love waiting for a few layers to dry, but ultimately with a bit of help from my trusted Helmar adhesives I was able to share some loving around.

I know that my gift will stand the test of time without things falling off thanks to some great Helmar adhesives.

Cards taking shape with Helmar and Want 2 Scrap

Cindy here, sharing a couple of shaped cards created with my electronic die cutting machine and software along with Helmar products and Want 2 Scrap products.  

You can take just about any simple image you want and create a shaped card with it.  I typically will cut 2 of the same image shape, score down about 3/4” from the top on the back image, fold and adhere it to the front image with Helmar 450 Quick Dry or Helmar Premium Craft Glue in that top 3/4”.  Either glue will hold your card securely through many openings.

 

For my first card I created my card shape of an acorn with leaves.     Die cuts with layers are assembled with Helmar Acid Free Glue and then adhered to the card using either Helmar Zap Dots or Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots.   I use the Zap Dots for uniform depth of the image and Liquid Scrap Dots when I shape the die cuts and have varying depths.  Card is completed with really fun Want 2 Scrap gems and half pearls.

 

My second card is of the same idea.  The shape this time being a nurses hat.  Same procedure.   Assemble flat die cuts with Helmar Acid Free Glue and then using Liquid Scrap Dots and Zap Dots for dimension and depth.

Making a Kindle Touch Cover with Helmar

Happy Wendsday everyone!

I am thrilled to be posting today as a Helmar Educator and to be bringing this adorable and useful project to you for your enjoyment and to make your home a Happy Helmar Home.

I started with a book big enough to clear at least 1/4"- 1/2" all around the Kindle Touch dimensions. You can adjust this for an Ipad also. Just add the same dimensions around the overall size of your electronic device.

This one was perfect... even had some spare room to put a stylest holder inside it.

Ok now you have your book selected... Lets begin!

Step 1: Use an exacto knife or utility knife to cut out the pages at the spine. Be careful not to cut through the outside cover. You don't want to compromise it's strength.

Step 2: Take some of the inside pages and tear them up to use Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste them all over the outside cover leaving at least 1/2" over lapping the edges. Seal with another coat of Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste.

Step 3: Cut two pieces of chipboard (I used some left over from the back of a stack... yes I save it all... LOL) the same size as a page of the book. Spray with Helmar V2 Vellum Adhesive on one side and adhere fabric of your choice to the front once the Helmar V2 Vellum Adhesive has become a bit tacky. Cut fabric 1/2"-3/4" larger than the chipboard.

Step 4: Using Helmar Premium Craft Glue fold over excess fabric to the back side.

TIP: I did the two opposite sides and let them dry while doing the second piece. Then I went back and adhered the other two sides. This kept it from sliding and gave it sufficient time to dry between pulling in a different direction.

Step 5: Cut a piece to cover the inside of the spine. Cut the fabric 1/2"-3/4" larger than the long side of your chipboard pieces. Since I am not wrapping the fabric around chipboard I used a scrap piece of paper to glue the unfinished edges of the fabric at the top and bottom of the spine lining.

Step 6: Using your Helmar Premium Craft Glue fold back all the book pages from the outside cover and adhere them to the inside.

Step 7: Adhere the spine lining into the spine with your with your Helmar Premium Craft Glue.

Step 8: Glue the lined chipboard piece to the inside front cover with your Helmar Premium Craft Glue. I added some mini pom pom trim prior to this step. Trim is totally optional. I set books on it while I did the next step.

Step 9: Take an extra page and cut it down to the size of your Kindle Touch. Then center it vertically and all the way to the left, on top of the second lined chipboard piece. Using a ruler mark one inch from each corner and punch a hole with an 1/8" punch.

Step 10: Thread elastic cord or elastic through these holes and tie and glue with your Helmar Premium Craft Glue on the back side leaving enough to stretch over the corners of your Kindle Touch on the front. Repeat Step 8 for this side when complete.

Step 11: Embellish the outside. I chose to add some simple Want 2 Scrap black Rhinestone swirls to the outside.

Want 2 Scrap products are so easy to use I just love how they look too!

Helmar and Want 2 Scrap - Got Bling?

Welcome to a week of inspiration using Want 2 Scrap and Helmar! I was so excited to be working with Want 2 Scrap for the first time on this project.

I love bling. Honestly, what girl doesn't, right?! Want 2 Scrap's pearls and rhinestones are perfect for any crafting project. This Pink Paislee Portfolio binder was a perfect place to add that extra shine!

 

I first took the protective sleeve, that you see above, off the album. This binder comes blank with a chevron pattern in a thick chipboard. To make the rhinestones stand out, I decided to use Heidi Swapp's Color Shine in Black Velvet and Mustard.

 

 

To protect the binding and each half of the album, I used washi tape to mask each area off as I sprayed. Washi tape is the perfect thing to use for this job because it lifts right up and doesn't leave any residue even on chipboard! The mist has perfect shine and you can even see it glimmer through the protective cover! I only needed to mist one coat of black and two coats of yellow.

 

 

Using my Helmar's Premium Craft Glue, I added a paper strip and sticker, also from the Portfolio collection, hiding my masking line from the black and yellow mist. I added a white sticker frame from Pink Paislee's Artisan line and the pearls from Want 2 Scrap. Then, I slipped the album back into its protective cover.

I wanted to add elements to the front cover without the fear of loosing them later as I use this album. So to make sure my unmisted Artisan flower and rhinestones by Want 2 Scrap stayed put for good I used Helmar's 450 Quick Dry.

 

 



This album is going to help me record my everyday. I wanted to make sure that the rhinestones and color theme that was on the outside of the album was through out the inside.

What I love about Want 2 Scrap's rhinestone sheets is that they come in all different sizes!

Two Layouts and Some Want 2 Scrap Bling

Hi everyone! It's Kate Vickers here today. I just wanted to share two layouts that I recently created. I hope you like them.

This first layout features Swirls - Silver Rhinestone - Package of 2 - 4" x 4" from Want 2 Scrap. I love adding these to layouts for a little extra bling.

Whimsical GreenCraft Halloween with Want2Scrap & Helmar

 Hello Everyone! I hope that you are enjoying October so far.

 I love decorating and getting ready for Halloween in October and what better way then to recycle some garden scraps and make it creative with the help of Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive,  Helmars Decoupage and Craft Paste, and ofcourse some wonderful bling from Want2Scrap .

What I did is take an old wooden plank from the garden and cover it with White Lightening. I then stamped one of my Susan K. Weckesser Inc. co-branded Unity stamps onto an old sewing pattern and I then I decoupaged it on using Helmars Decoupage and Craft Paste. I also decoupaged on the letters that spell Halloween. The numbers where put on by using my new Susan K. Weckesser Inc. The Crafters Workshop stencil with modeling paste. After adding  color with  Clearsnap 's SMOOCH,  I melted a bit of bee wax on and then coated again with Helmars Decoupage and Craft Paste. 

I then added some of Want2Scrap's AWESOME bling to add a bit of glam and whimsy.

It was super fun to create this cute little Halloween Project that first started out as an old piece of board heading out to the dump!
