Faber-Castell Gelatos with Helmar Crackle Medium - for the win!

Hello Helmar Fans! JJ here, with a layout to share with you - featuring Faber-Castell Gelatos, and Helmar Crackle Medium.

I started off my page with a gessoed background (I stamped texture into the gesso before it was dry - that's the grid marks you see) and added Faber-Castell Gelatos in multiple shades of blue.  I blended the shades with  my fingers - the Gelatos are creamy, and move nicely on gesso.

Then I applied Helmar 2-step Crackle Medium.  Step 1 (applied with a soft brush) sets in about 20 minutes, then you apply Step 2 and let it dry overnight.  When you wake up in the morning and rush to your scrap table, you are greeted with lovely cracks like these:

My project was mostly tone-on-tone, and I wanted the cracks to stand out more, so I rubbed more Gelatos into the cracks:

I added a few 'paw print' stamps, using Faber-Castell Big Brush Stamper markers.

Then I glued on strips of fabric, using Helmar Fabric Glue...

and added my photos and embellishments with 450 Quick Dry.  Then finished off by journaling with Faber Castell PITT Artist pens.

Faber-Castell & Helmar = Creative Fun Part 2

Hi everyone ~ Martha here with Part 2 of the creative fun between Faber-Castell and HELMAR. It would be remiss of me not to acknowledge the incredible support Faber-Castell has offered as a preferred partner with the Helmar designers and educators.

I love using the Gelatos and Metallic PITT Artist pens on canvas...let me show you a canvas mini book cover created with them.

Here is the cover with canvas embellishments before they got the Faber-Castell treatment.

Using   a stencil from Stencil Girl Products and Essential PITT^® Artist Pens in black I first traced around the stencil. Knowing that the color from the Artist Pitt Pen would not bleed I proceeded to color wash the different areas with Faber-Castell Gelatos. Notice how you can get wonderful shading by adding 2 or 3 colors. I colored the ART letters in matching colors using the Faber-Castell Metallic PITT Artist pens.  To show how well the gelatos take to other fabrics I used a small lace rosette in a matching color. Both the canvas letters and the lace flower were attached to the cover with Helmar Fabric Glue. I added a small amount of Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots to the center of the flower for some height.

Using the same Gelatos I color washed the pleated canvas trim and the edge of the cover.

I found some muslin ribbon and also colored washed it to use as ties on the cover.

I love how the colors from the Gelatos pop off the canvas. With a few Gelatos and some water I have a custom made cover to be used as a gift.

 

The other project I want to share today is a journal page I just finished in my Dylusions Creative Journal using Dylusions Ink Spray. When I create in my journal the only pens I use are the Artist PITT Pens because they are "made with odorless, waterproof, lightfast and archival India ink so your images stay bright and vibrant for many years to come." I use all the various sizes depending on the effect I'm going for! On this page I also used Helmar Professional Acid Free Glue to adhere the stamped images to the page.

I hope I've given you some creative ideas and different ways of creating with HELMAR and Faber-Castell products.

I LOVE Faber-Castell - a look back....

Hi Helmar Fans!

I hope you have been enjoying all the Faber-Castell projects shared this week by the team! I probably own a little bit of all the products they carry and LOVE them. I wanted to take a look back at some of my favorite projects that I've shared during my term with Helmar!

For this art journal page I used Faber-Castell gelatos to color the background. I just color them directly on the page (after coating with gesso) and spritzed with some water to blend. GORGEOUS and BRIGHT! I used Helmar 450 Quick Dry to adhere the chipboard butterflies to my page as well as Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste to adhere & seal the stickers.

For this mixed media tile, I used Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste to adhere some pattern paper to the tile and then colored right on top with Faber-Castell gelatos. After I stamped my image, I colored the hair with Faber-Castell Stamper's Big Brush pens. I love these as they are permanent once dry but blend a bit when still wet - seriously a must have for mixed media!!! I also used Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots to adhere my butterfly so it looks as though it is about to fly off the tile. ;)

For this card, I wanted to add some pops of color to my chalk board art so I used Faber-Castell Pitt Pastel pencils - they are SO bright and smooth! (PS. do you want to see how I create these cards?! Please check out my Helmar Live recording at Ustream!)

This is one of my absolutely favorites - this is the cover of my art journal from an old book. I covered it with some pattern paper with Helmar Decoupage & Craft Paste and again used Faber-Castell gelatos to add pops of color. I also used the Faber-Castell Stamper's Big Brush pens for my stamped images. Again, because they dry permanent, it's great for all the layers in mixed media!!

I want to thank Faber-Castell for being so generous with the team - it has been a LOT of fun playing with your products and I'm fan for LIFE! :D

Inspirational card with a handmade rose tutorial

Hi Helmar fans, Vicky blogging today to share a card that I made and a flower tutorial featuring gelato products by Helmar's preferred partner Faber-Castell. I started off by using a pretty paper from Meg's Garden and some awesome Dusty Attic chipboard and gorgeous lace. I used Helmar's Premium craft glue to adhere the lace, Acid-free glue to add the chipboard (and to make my rose - see tutorial below) and then finally some 450 quick dry to add the flowers.

Here is a tutorial on how I made my large shabby rose. My finished flower is 3 inches wide and 1 inch in height. I used punches that ranged from 1.5 inches to 3.5 inches to achieve this rose.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

*8 punched or die cut flower petals in 4 different sizes and shapes with rounded ends.

*2 gelatos (I used 2 shades of pink)

*water mister

*paintbrush

*thick rounded tip object (I used a sharpie marker)

*glue - Helmar Acid-Free

*white gesso or ink of choice

STEP 1: Smear or shave/scrape little chunks of the gelatos into a plate (I shaved the light pink and smeared the dark one) and lay your 8 flowers on a plastic or glass surface. Gelatos wash up easily and do not stain.

STEP 2: Mist the light color with water and apply to all 8 flowers. Here is a picture of my first 4 done.

STEP 3:  Mist the darker color with water and apply to petal tips. Note that colors will blend and get lighter as they dry.

STEP 4: Scrunch each flower around a rounded object (like a sharpie marker) and roll against it to create a cup shape.

STEP 5: On one of your two smallest flowers, pinch the end to create a bud. Let all 8 of the flowers rest in this shape for a few minutes to dry a little.

STEP 6: Slightly open up the 4 larger flowers and glue together with Helmar Acid-Free glue, off setting the petals (largest flowers on the bottom). I put a little dab of glue up the sides too to hold it together and stiffen as it dries.

STEP 7: Once the 4 larger flowers are glued, roll again around the marker to bring back to a cup shape.

STEP 8: Do the same thing with 3 smaller flowers, leaving out the bud. Again, the larger flowers are on the bottom.

STEP 9: Glue everything together and let dry in this shape. Note that the colors will get lighter as they dry.

STEP 10: Once dry, shape a bit more by opening up and folding back a few petals and I dry brush a bit of white gesso on the tips for a shabby look and to stiffen so the rose will not easily crush. You could ink the end instead for a more traditional look. TIP: Smaller flowers can easily be made by only using 6 flower layers.

Bunny Art Journaling with Faber Castell and Helmar

Hi Helmar fans, it's Erin here today to share a couple of art journal pages with you. With Easter just behind us, and the arrival of a newborn in our house, it's no wonder images of spring have made their way into my art journal. Actually, I love rabbits, and will use any excuse to work images of sweet bunnies into my work.

If you want to have fun playing with colours and techniques, then Faber Castell Gelatos and Stampers Big Brush Pens coupled with Helmar Craft and Hobby Glue are the way to go.

I began the first page with some gesso and stencils, adding pattern and texture. I then added some water to Helmar Craft and Hobby Glue, and brushed some strokes across my page. other techniques include stamping with the Stampers Big Brush pens in various shades, washes using Stampers Big Brush pen inks, direct application of Gelatos blended with my finger, drawing with the Stampers Big Brush pen, and application of Gelatos using stencils and a sponge.

Here you can see a brush stroke of the Glue resist, once it has been covered over with Gelatos. A bit of water is all it takes to remove any residual pigment from the resist.

The second page received a thin coat of gesso all over, then once dry, a stamping technique using the Craft and Hobby Glue Resist, and more brush strokes.

This is what the same stamp looks like when stamped with the Glue ( white), and with blue ink from a Stampers Big Brush Pen ( blue). The colour wash is ink from the same pen diluted with water and brushed on.

The circles here were created by brushing on the glue and water mixture. Gelatos were used with stencils and a sponge ( purple), masks and direct application smudged with my finger ( dark blue) and direct application brushed over with water ( green).

There are so many ways to use the Faber Castell Stampers Big Brush Pens and Gelatos, and the fun just grows from there when you add in textures with a resist made from Craft and Hobby Glue. If you don't believe me, grab an Art journal and give it a try!

Mother's Day scrapbook page, with Helmar and Authentique

Hello Helmar Fans! JJ here again today, to share a Mother's Day layout with you. (Yup - it's coming fast!)  

I used Professional Acid Free glue for all the photos and papers.  I love how well Helmar works with highly textured papers, like the ones from Authentique.

I 'popped' a few of the die-cuts with Zap Dots for a little extra dimension:

I also use Zap Dots for the title block, and they stuck just fine over the textured ribbon!

Peek-a-boo: more photos were hidden in that folder.  When none of the photos are 'perfect', but they all have something you don't want to leave out - add a folder with hidden extras!   Helmar is strong enough to handle the added weight of the layers.

Naturally, I love 450 Quick Dry for bulky embellishments like these flowers, but it also comes in handy for trims and ribbons - you can't even see it through the open mesh of the trim!

Where did that month go ??

Hey there - how have you been? I have been on walk about lol.... not really i have been on a tour of Australia and New Zealand on a craft adventure with Finnabair. It was so great to see so much HELMAR on the way...... my fav glues are also fav's of alot of ladies who attend our workshops - great to SEE !! Boy oh Boy did we have some fun.....but thats another story or two....

Time to share -  i managed to do this journal along the way, which i found i couldn't post from my ipad or iphone like i had intended to do :-( so it had to wait until i got home..... oops sorry !!

First up Do you know how much i love 450????

It's a huge fav of mine and my journal below is full on 450 Quick Dry......

every button put into place with 450 Quick Dry.............

a few close ups ............ the buttons offer so much texture and a great way to use up all those you have in your stash that dont match anything ...... get the paint out !!

thats it from me for now! This post is a little like me short and sweet lol - sorry but i have so much to do its not funny - feel free to call over for a cuppa and lend a hand lol....

Helmar April Challenge- "Days-of-the-week"

Welcome to another Helmar Monthly Challenge.

Its APRIL!

Can you believe it? 

This year is racing by.

So this month we are going to record a week of our lives!

I have just started a Project Life, after literally years of resisting. I just woke up a few weeks ago and decided "its time". So..... record something that you did in a week.

It might be just one day, or you can do the entire week.

Notes, journaling, a calendar.....what ever takes your fancy.

Might be your weekly menu, or daily tasks.  Your favourite tv shows in a week, or just a diary type layout recording your life in a week......

 

Now,  here are my efforts for recording a typical week in our household.  There are no real specific details in this for me, as my weeks change week to week being a SAHM.  I have different deadlines each week and our home stuff pretty much stays the same, but I recorded what its like here and now!

My starting out process....laying out all the cards and elements.....

 

My Header is in a 12 x 4 section across the top..... 

 

 

 

I used Helmar Acid Free Glue for adhering all my paper, and I used the Tape Runner for the thinner stuff....Perfect glues for this job!

 

 

 

I made all my background cards using Shimmerz Paints, and their new ranges Texturez and Dazzlerz to get the amazing texture.

and the entire page altogether.....

This is a filler page in my PL album, as I only started PL recently, some weeks are just single pages rather than double spreads.  This page is a nice transition into when I recorded the weeks better and could do double spreads for one week.

I loved doing this.  It will be nice looking back on what a normal week for us looked like for us back in March of 2013!!!

I have another sample to share with you.....This time one Helmar Designer Michelle did with this challenge in mind.

What a cool page, so much texture in there too.....Keep an eye out for Michelle's post on how she did this!
