Hello everyone, Jeanette here again and this time I'm bringing you a sweet little project that I've put together.
This little book is called a 'Needle Keep' and as the name suggests, it's a little book that you keep your needles in.
I absolutely love small projects where I can use up some of my scraps of laces and appliques and this was perfect for that.
To start with I used an offcut of a cotton doiley and cut it to the size I wanted, approximately 11cm x 14cm (HxW) then folded in half. This piece already had lace on two sides so I only had to add a little lace to the remaining sides using 'Helmar Fabric Glue'. I also cut a piece of felt slightly smaller and glued this to the underside of the fabric.
Using some pinking shears I cut another piece of felt slightly smaller for the inside pages and pinned everything in place.
Using a very simple running stitch and strong thread I then sewed the layers together.
Now comes the fun part of decorating the basic Needle Keep using up small pieces of lace and offcuts of appliques it's a very quick and easy project.
Another little inclusion on the inside pages is a 'hump' for the needles to pass through, this is simply a small square of felt that's folded into thirds and glued into place using Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive for best results.
You can then cover the 'hump' with a scrap of lace
Once you have made the pages how you want them you can finish up the decorating using either Helmar Fabric Glue for light laces and Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive for heavier items such as buttons etc. Be sure to attach a little ribbon or seam binding to the front and back covers for a lovely bow closure.
And there we have it, a lovely little Needle Keep/Book that is soft and simple to put together and by using these wonderful glues, even those who don't sew can make one of these little lovelies!!
Thank you so much for stopping by today
Jeanette :)
