Hello everyone, Jeanette from Australia here with my very first project for Helmar. In Australia right now it’s the School Holiday break which of course means the children are at home and usually looking for something to entertain themselves with. When they are not outside running around or playing computer games I like to encourage the creative arts and I’m blessed with children who also love to draw. Now you wouldn’t think drawing would create a problem but when you have all their pencils, crayons etc in one container laying flat it can be difficult to find what you’re looking for, so with this in mind I set about creating a pencil/art caddy for my children.
We live in a small home and they usually draw at the dining table so the use of ‘primary’colours was definitely a no go for me plus they are a little older. This project would be just as good made larger for smaller children in lovely bright colours, especially if you have a designated area for it.
Recycling two cracker boxes and a muslie bar box I cut them down to the depth I wanted the caddy to be and used the left over cardboard to make a handle for easy transportation and also to make dividers within the boxes.
I used Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to stick the pieces together. Once stuck, there was no need to prime the cardboard so using some old book pages I then decoupaged both the outside and inside using Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste.
I also added a little washi tape to the edges to neaten and finish off the caddy. I then applied Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste as a top coat to keep the project stong and clean.
A little decoration in the form of a ‘J’ (both my school aged children have names starting with J) adhered with Helmar Scrap Dots for dimension along with some bling and a couple of rosette flowers on either side of the handle and it’s done.
A very quick and easy project that won’t look out of place in my dining area but is still very practical for older children.
