Greetings! Jennifer here, spreading a little love for both spring and the age-old art of decoupage.
I've had this gardening bunny, bare wood, wall-hanging for several years (though similar can be found at most craft stores this time of year) and I always seem to rediscover him in my studio after Easter has once again passed. This year I finally remembered him in time to dress him up before the holiday!
Instead of painting him, I decided to mix normal decoupage with a bit of old school scrapbooking paper-piecing. For the larger sections of the bunny I cut card stock or patterned paper to fit the different sections free-hand and then cut away the excess with a craft knife. A thin coat of Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste was enough to hold the paper in place, and I gave it a coat on top to seal the edges.
For the smaller hanging sections I "traced" the shape onto card stock with a craft knife and repeated the gluing steps above, using the smaller end of the spreader to smooth the paper over the wood and the larger end to apply the Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste.
Once all the sections were covered, it was time to give our bunny some details. The small heart and tear-drop shapes were punched out of contrasting card stock and adhered, again with the Helmar Decoupage Paste. The tip of a skewer was perfect for these small pieces.
Then I cut some small flower and vegetable motifs from patterned paper and used the Helmar Decoupage Paste to hold them in place. It dries so smooth and clear you almost can't tell there are several layers on the hanging basket.
Finishing touches include some grosgrain bows and pen details.
Wishing you creative days!
