Hello everyone! Martice here, sharing a beautiful welcome sign, in celebration of Spring. If you love your projects to be full of whimsy + charm + sparkle, then this one's for you!
Let's get started! Here's a list of supplies + products I used to create this project:
Helmar Products:
Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots
Helmar Tacky Craft Glue
Helmar glue spreader
Other supplies:
Acrylic + metallic + neon paints
dimensional paint
Paintbrush + foam brush
Staz-On ink pad
Stencil ("Square Dance" from Stencil Girl)
Matboard
X-Acto Knife / scissors
variety of handmade + butterfly stamps
Large Fern stamp (from RubberMoon stamps)
black gesso
white pen
white cardstockGather your handmade stamps...you may not use every one of them, but they can serve as inspiration for your sign.
I love the grungy effect that can be created with a simple foam brush and a stencil.
Choose a stencil with organic shapes. This one is (Square Dance) from Stencil Girl. Here's how to create this look:
1. Paint black gesso onto your 9.5"x10.5" matboard with paintbrush.
2. Next, randomly apply acrylic + neon paints with a foam brush through the stencil.
3. Spray dimensional paint onto surface. Let dry.
While this is drying...
4. Take the smaller matboard (6"x8") and glue a Gelli print onto the surface using Helmar Tacky Glue. (Flatten the piece with a spreader to make sure all air bubbles are removed.)
5. Using a brayer, roll out a smooth layer of black gesso onto a handmade stamp. Stamp the Gelli print. Do the same with the Large fern stamp, in a different color.
6. To add the butterflies, I stamped a butterfly stamp onto some white cardstock (Staz-On ink in black). Cut butterflies out with scissors or an X-Acto Knife.
7. Each butterfly was given its own, whimsical look with pastel colors + metallic paints.
For dimensionality, I used Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots in small areas to bring out some details of the intricate patterns of the butterfly wings. Set aside to dry.8. Glue each butterfly onto a tiny piece of foam board.
Glue them to the 6"x8" matboard with Helmar Tacky Craft Glue. (Tip: for a more natural, butterfly look, gently bend and curl their wings over your finger.)
9. Finally, glue the 6"x8" matboard onto the larger, 9.5"x10.5" matboard with Helmar Tacky Craft Glue.10. Now, let's welcome Springtime by writing the words "Celebrate Spring", using a white ink pen. (Tip: To accent certain areas, embellish the sign with more dimensional paint and sprays.)
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! Happy creating and happy Springtime :)
