Greetings! Jennifer, here, with a super quick, super simple, and super cheap project just in time for your Halloween party.
I'm going to go out on a limb and presume you've seen the various cake platters constructed of a candlestick and a plate online or from a friend. They're everywhere. This is my take on that, with an eye towards creating a far more sturdy stand.
To make this all you need is:
* A "silver" tray (mine's from the dollar store)
* 3 Glass vases (again, from the dollar store)
* a package of Halloween spider webs with plastic spiders (yep, another dollar store find)
* Helmar Silicone Adhesive Sealant
Told ya' it was cheap!
First you want to make sure that the bottom of your tray and the bases of your vases are free of any sort of dirt, dust, labels, or sticky residue.
You want to add the Helmar Silicone Adhesive Sealant to the bottom of each vase in an open spiral--this way you can get good, solid coverage with less chance of excess glue oozing out the sides of the join.
Place the bottom of the vase to the bottom of the platter, making small circles to spread the spiral of adhesive fully between the two materials.
Look through the vase to see that you've filled the gaps with the glue.
By using three vases in a triangular arrangement, we get a much more stable platform for our pedestal, just like the classic 3-legged stool.
Let the glue dry at least overnight. The packaging of the Helmar Silicone Adhesive Sealant says that it'll cure to 7mm in 72 hours, but this layer isn't that thick and I found it sturdy enough to continue by the next day.
The beauty of using the vases with the openings at the bottom means you can fill them with anything you want to create a more interesting display. I opted to use the filmy spider web material with the plastic spiders and gently stuffed them into the vases. They stay put with no extra effort, but I did use a chopstick to help arrange the spiders so they are easily seen.
And that's that! Super simple, super quick, and super cheap--perfect for a last minute update to your Halloween holiday table!
Wishing you creative days,
