Pumpkins and Spice and Everything Nice

 Hi, Veronica here and I am so thankful today to share with you my Holiday décor.  These lovely pumpkins are for my dining table. 

I knew I wanted some sparkle and also rustic elements for my center piece and this is what I came up with using Helmar Adhesives. 

I started off with a paper-mache hollow pumpkin shape and a solid wood pumpkin I found at Home Goods that is not shaped like your usual pumpkin. 

 

First using Helmar Decoupage I covered the paper mache pumpkin a section at a time and while wet I poured coppery/orange glitter on it till the section was completely covered.

Use a nice layer of glue, don't be shy, the glitter will stick better.

Shake off any extra glitter and set it aside to dry.  After it dries spray some Helmar Crystal Kote Gloss Varnish on your pumpkin so that the glitter does not come off.  This dries clear and also comes in matte finish.

I finished my glitter pumpkin center piece with some fall leaves, ribbon and wrapped some jute string around the stem.

My next pumpkin I decided to make more rustic.  Personally I like mixing rustic with shabby or rustic with sparkle.  My home has a lot of rustic elements and style to it.  I for instance collect South Western Art especially Hopi Kachina Indian dolls and rustic western metal art.

Again I used the Helmar Decoupage & Craft Paste to adhere my burlap to the wood.

I added some Jute String to separate the section in the pumpkin and also for more texture.

 Then just add your finishing touches.  I added some yarn for my rustic homey look, some flowers and leaves.  I also stamped a "thanks" sentiment on cardstock

Fall Luminary featuring Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste

 

Hi everyone, Kathleen here with a fun simple and easy decor project for you.  I was cruising through pinterest the other day looking for fun fall designs when I came across this beautiful luminary.  This project can be made with real or silk leaves.  Even a novice like me found it so easy to make featuring Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste

 

 

Tips:  After using Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste make sure to wipe the rim of the jar and the lid thoroughly or by golly you will have a heck of a time opening it again.

 

 

I used an assortment of different sizes and colors of fall silk leaves.  I found it helps to take off the plastic veins on the back of the leaves before applying them to the jar.  A snip or two on the larger leaves helps in lapping them around the jar. 

 

  

With a wide brush I hand apply Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste liberally on the jar then begin adhering the leaves.  I repeated this basic step over and over until I was satisfied with the end results.  Yes, I did stop and let each layer dry before adding the next layer.  I just found it easier that way.

 

To complete the look I took a nice long length of jute twine and wrapped it around the top using more Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste.  That's it!

 

 

 

 

Place a small candle in the jar and your beautiful luminary is ready to shine on any table!

Thanksgiving Name Placecards with Tamiko

Wanted to do something different for Thanksgiving this year, not sure how to make it different though. Then I thought, we never do a formal type seating for dinner.  We usually just grab a plate and go about our business and grab a seat near the closest tv for sports or a movie.  This year I will make name placecards for each of our guest and see how that goes.  

When I went for inspiration to books and youtube and pinterest as we all often do, I quickly came to the conclusion that I could make these forever with little things I find around the house or my craft area even .. as long as I had some decent glue!  Ha ha.. sounds like a win win, because I have both!!  I was so excited to find so many little placecards I couldn't decide which one I liked best.  I wanted to make something I wouldn't mind parting with, in case my guest wanted to take it home.  I also didn't want to get bored making the same thing over and over again, which is why I told myself it was ok to make three different kinds!

 

 The first card I thought was so super cute!  It only took 1 12x12 sheet of paper, some other scraps and my Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA Glue.  After using my Scor-board and marking my paper every half inch, I creased the folds with a bone folder and attached it to a base strip of card stock with glue; I then adhered the half circle and body of the turkey.  Added a name  and distressed some of the papers along edges and the folds and I was done!  ::smiles:: Super cute I think.

 

 Then I made the super easy kraft paper stalks.  Many of people actually do this with paper towel rolls, but since I have AWESOME glue and kraft paper, that's  what used instead!  For this I cut a sheet of 8.5 x 11 kraft paper in half; then along the long edges I cut little strips.. one side twice and sometimes even triple the  size of the other side's strips; then I would ball up the paper for texture; roll it back flat and place Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive along the uncut center; roll lightly; curl the strips loosely and finally add a layers belly band and name.  Again cute to me!! 

 

 

For my third one, I actually created an open box from a piece of board that was 6x6,  my the two glues listed above and my Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots! I like this one because I love boxes and flowers and little treats.  ::smiles:: I put the box togther with Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive; added cover sheets with  Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA; layered my paper flower and leaves with the PVA and propped them on a corner of the box with Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots; also propped a clothes pin/clip to the back of the box to support the name and tada!  Superfun!!

 

It was totally fun grabbing all of my scraps and glues and making something worthy of setting on the thanksgiving table and potentially gifting.  I do know my family will enjoy them and I hope that YOU did too! I would also like to take a moment to give a shout out to my brother Dred, who turns 40 when this post goes live on the blog!  HappyBirthday dear brother!  Brook and I love you and wish you EVERYTHING that brings you happiness in the world!!  I also made this card for him!! :)

Firstly I used the Helmar Quick Fix Permanent Adhesive Runner to glue the mat cover on the white card stock card.

  The next step, I used the Acid Free Glue to attach a pocket for the snowman to peek out and  and t

 

I then used the Helmar White Round 1/2" Zap Dots, this gave the flap dimension for the snowman to pop out, and lifted the Snowman

I glued the "Let it snow" medallion on using the Helmar Quick Fix Adhesive Runner. Now i got out my sharpie and traced all my edges to frame it and added in some some snowflakes and details to my back ground

 

Thanksgiving Table Decor

Good morning everyone, Steph Ackerman here to share some last minute Thanksgiving Table Décor.  With all the leaves that are now falling, why not incorporate them in your Thanksgiving crafts.

Helmar Decoupage & Craft Paste is the perfect glue to adhere the leaves to my glass jar.  Because it dries clear, I simply painted Helmar Decoupage & Craft Paste on the jar and placed the leaves.  Just hold them in place for a few seconds and continue adding leaves until the jar is covered.

Allow several hours for the glue to dry before finishing off the jar with twine.  Add some acorns inside and a candle to light up the dining room table.

I also wanted to create some coordinating silverware holders so I covered paper rolls with cardstock also using Decoupage & Craft Paste.

Then I added canvas and tied twine around them.  Finally I slipped some leaves under the twine to coordinate with my glass jar.

 

There you have it - quick and inexpensive Thanksgiving Table Décor.

up-cycled Santa Treat boxes ( Nov. 16th)

 

Ho Ho Ho....it's time for Christmas....Too early you say?

Well, it's never too early to get your handmade goodies in order! I love giving handmade treats as small gifts, but nothing says boring as a plain Tupperware container or a paper plate with saran wrap laid across the top! I love to give mine a little panache...and nothing is swankier than up-cycling these days so if you haven't been collecting interesting containers all year, then you better get cracking!

First I gathered up some goodies to decorate some Pringles Chip containers with.

 To begin with I needed to fix one of my Santa hats. Since I buy Christmas embellishments after the season is over...well, sometimes they need a little TLC to look their best. This one lost it's star topper so I rolled a pinch off of a cotton ball and used my Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to stick it on. I also trimmed off the cords as I won't be using them as tree ornaments.

 

Next, I measured off some red cardstock to fit around the can using my Helmar Quick Fix  Permanent Adhesive Runner to secure it quick and easy. This might go down as one of my least messy projects ever because of the tape runner which just made everything go together smoothly and quickly! 

Next I began embellishing with some ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon also using the tape runner to secure everything...did I mention how fast you can create this project?

I did use my Cricut to cut some circles to cover the clear plastic lids and the bottom of the cans, totally optional, but I personally liked the finishing touches and yep, you guessed it, i used my tape runner to adhere these too!

Even the cute little pom pom fringe The Ribbon Resource was applied with the tape runner.

Tip: If your runner goes off the edge like mine did, (because I aimed for the outer edges of the can so that my tape wouldn't show under the fringe since my fringe was tiny), use some baby powder on your finger to deactivate the stick on the tape so when you set the can down it doesn't stick to the counter.

The last step was gluing on the rhinestones for buttons with my Helmar Gemstone Adhesive and then using the Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to adhere the Santa head to the top of the can.

Now I filled up the cans with some store bought candy for now, but I plan on making some party mix to go inside so if you have any good recipes to share then please link them up!

Good Luck layout using Helmar Quickfix Adhesive Runner (11/13/15)

Hooray for Fall!!!

Love this picture of my daughter and her classmates celebrating the completion of their master's program for P.A.  Kathleen here and one super proud mom at that!  So today I thought I would share a simple layout using layering and featuring Helmar Quickfix Adhesive Runner.

 

 

I selected an assortment of cards, tags, chipboard and fussy cut flowers, rooster and fruit from Graphic 45 French Country Collection.  Beginning with a neutral background paper I edged it by painting on walnut stain. Run your Helmar Adhesive runner a couple of times on the back side of each of these cards.

 

 

 

 Begin by cascading your large rectangular card from the top middle of the paper down to the center right hand side.  Use your Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots on the back of the picture and float it over the frame.

 

Tuck your chipboard under the frame and again on the bottom piece using Helmar Professional Acid free Glue.  Starting half way down from the left side of the paper cascade your fruits and flowers to the bottom center of the paper. Use Helmar Adhesive runner on the base flowers but set a few aside.

 

  To give dimension to some of my sunflowers and grapes I popped a couple of the 1/2" Zapdots underneath.

Starred and Spangled Banner

Hello, patriots! No, it's not Elle Woods, it's a much less blonde Jennifer, here, with a starred and spangled banner for your Veterans Day display.

To put this together you'll need:

• Card stock in red, white, and blue
• Paper trimmer
• Scoring board and bone folder
• Helmar Acid Free Glue
• Navy ribbon
• Self-adhesive crystals (or flat back gems and Helmar Gemstone Glue)
• Optional: clothes pins, die cutting machine

Start by trimming a couple of sheets of 12" card stock in red and blue into 6" squares.

You'll need two squares per circle, so cut as many as needed.

Next you want to use your scoring tools of choice and mark each square into 1/2-inch sections.

Start by scoring on the half marks (1/2", 1 1/2", 2 1/2", 3 1/2", 4 1/2", and 5 1/2") then flip the sheet over and score on the opposite side of the sheet at the whole marks (1", 2", 3", 4", and 5"). This makes the fan folds a lot easier to accomplish, especially on very heavy card stock.

Finally, give your square a quarter turn and score it once at the midpoint (3"). This will make it both easy to find the center when it's time to make our fans as well as make it a tiny bit easier to fold.

Following the scored lines, fan-fold your squares using the bone folder to press the edges nice and crisp.

Then, using that midpoint score, fold the fans onto themselves, gluing closed with Helmar Acid Free Glue. Because the natural tendency of the card stock is to unfold itself and you've got better things to do than hold paper together while the glue sets, a clothes pin at the end of the seam will be your lifesaver.

Once you have enough fans ready to go, you can start putting together your banner. Spread each out a bit (pressing the outer edges of the folds slightly flat helps) and glue your ribbon to the bottom edge of one fan. Leave 10 inches or so of ribbon free on one end of your banner to have something to tie it up with.

Once the Helmar Acid Free Glue sets the ribbon on the one fan, line up a fan of the opposite color on the other side of the ribbon, clipping the two long edges together with clothes pins while they set. Once those edges are good and adhered, flatten out your medallion and place a few drops of Helmar Acid Free Glue on either side of the center fold just to help it hold its shape. My card stock was very stubborn, so I  weighted down each medallion while the glue set.

Repeat, alternating the placement of the colors on either side of the ribbon, and leaving about 6" between each medallion as well. When the banner is as long as you want it, leave another 10" tail at the end of the banner.

I used my Cricut to draw and cut some patriotic stars and starbursts out of my red, white, and blue card stock. Any die cuts or even hand-cut stars will work, just something nice and layered to go on the center of our medallions. 

Once the centerpieces were assembled, I used a bit more of the Helmar Acid Free Glue to attach them to the center front of each medallion. And I thought they needed a little something extra, so I grabbed a sheet of self-adhesive red crystals to add a little sparkle to the medallions.

If you find that your banner wants to forward or back, it may help to glue a bead or button onto the bottom of the medallion to weight it. Or you could decorate both sides of the medallions so that it can flip around freely without worry!

Remembering our American Heroes with Helmar

 
Hi, Veronica here to share with you a Veteran's Day card to honor our American Heroes for Veterans Day on 11/11. 

To make this very special card today - I used Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive   and  Helmar Zap Dots

I usually create in my head first then once my design is decided I gather my materials and what I will use.  I knew I wanted an American Flag as my background so I went out and bought this awesome Tim Holtz "Flag Sketch" stamp.  I then embossed it with red embossing powder.

 

I could not find the image of a soldier I wanted in my stash of stickers or chipboard.  I was not going to let it go so I started to search for free clipart images and found the soldier image I wanted.  I used the image as a template and fussy cut it out on navy cardstock.

I used the Helmar Zap Dots to highlight the soldier on my card.

I then used the Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to adhere my title (sticker) onto the cardstock and then onto my card.  I used this glue to put together all the layers of cardstock (red, white and blue) for my patriotic layered card.

I added some felt stars that I had die cut and added one of my favorite embellishments to use - Ribbon.  Yes, I am known for how much ribbon I hoard.

Gratitude Journal

Hey folks.  It's now November, yes November!  Two more months till the end of the year and I frankly couldn't be happier.  I am trying to think differently though.  While a a bad day can seem to be a bad week.. or a bad month.. There is ALWAYS something to be grateful for daily.  Starting here, this month, I decided to remind myself, Gratitude is the Attitude! I Made a book to keep reminders of that in it! Want to see it??  Here it goes.. (haha)

 This journal is what we call a fan book.  Its pages are held together by a metal binding post.  The book has over 50 pages.   So for the next two months I am committing to writing something I am thankful for daily in it. The book was actually something I use with my Arnold Grummer stash of book making products. I removed the covers from the book and covered them with my personal gelli printed papers on the outside and inside.  I first used the Helmar Professional Acid Free Glue and because I didn't have binder clips handy to hold the paper in place, on the inside I used Helmar Super-Tac Glue, while it may be fluid, its tackiness is supremely fast.

 I hid the binder cap on the front cover by placing a resin rose on the metal piece with some Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive and I placed the wording for Gratitude is the Attitude on the cover with my acid free again. here is another shot of the journal again with the pages closed.

 So excited to stuff this little journal in my pocket book or bag to play in.  I think it's time if you haven't already, to get some HELMAR in your life.. and go MAKE SOMETHING!! (smiles)  Have a grand weekend!!
