Valentine's Day at our house, has always been about family and/or kids at school.. and being mushy that one day.. (giggles) I grew up in a family where love wasn't always expressed with grand emotional gestures with gifts or verbally, but it was ALWAYS understood. Valentine's day is one of the days we go all out and get heart shaped balloons, candies and food. Today I present you with a gift I am making for a friend. She has been having a rough time and I want her to know that on this day, she is loved and thought of.
First I took some red card stock and cut it to 3.5 x10.5 inches. I scored at the 3.5 inch line and punched a hole for the neck of my wine bottle. I placed this to the side. I quickly brushed a mixture Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste with a little water and laid a colorful floral napkin against some corrugated board. I mix it with a little water with napkins because they are so delicate. The paste works well with all types of papers and its much easier to add a little water to thin it down then it is to buy another product for thicker papers. No real technique applied here, besides remembering to pull the layers of the napkin apart because if you don't the papers will peal. Oh, and I did place the mixture under the napkin as well as on top of the napkin. I let it sit to the side and dry for 30 minutes or so. That piece of board was cut down to 3 x 6.5 inches.
I then added a little gesso, paint and embellished my board piece by adhering- lettering, rhinestones, flowers and trim all with Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. I tend to use that glue for all my outer decor because it is super strong and works well in EVERY occasion. It also dries super clear and has a little sheen if oozes past the area I intended to cover. See here..
After I finished sticking down all I needed to the corrugated board, I then attached it to the piece of card stock. I have never done these before and I very pleased at how it came out. I may even toss a few in the mail to someone I know gives wine as gifts quite often. (smiles) Here are a few more pictures.
I really hope my friend enjoys the tag as much as the wine. Even more importantly, I hope you consider making something for those you love with products you love, which should include things over at HELMAR !! Thanks for stopping by!!
