Hello crafty friends, Sarah here with a little gift idea for New Years (actually this is a nice idea that could be given for any occasion!).
What you will need for this project is;
- Small box (this was the packaging from a soft cheese)
- White gesso
- Acrylic paint (two - three colours). I used two different paints and Inka-Gold (this is a fast drying metal gloss paint)
- Helmar Premium Craft Glue
- Black stamp pad and background stamp of your choice
- Helmar Crystal Kote Gloss Varnish
- Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive
- Embellishments - here I have used washi tape, wooden veneer piece, doily, fabric feather, peacock charm, sequins and flowers
- Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots
Lets get started....a colleague of mine bought some yummy cheese to a team meeting.....whilst the cheese was delicious, I was eyeing off the little wooden box it came in.
First step is to cover it using white gesso - this gives some 'tooth' for any paint to stick to. I then painted the box - I put on three coats to give better coverage.
I then painted the wooden veneer peice- beYOUtiful. The embellishments used to decorate this box are from the November Peacock Parade D-lish Scraps Just Add Paper kit. The D-lish Scraps online store can be found at http://d-lishscraps.openstores.com.au/
Now for the second layer of paint...using Dylusions Vibrant Turquoise, I applied this to parts of the box to give a more shabby chic look. I then did the same application some Inka-Gold in Iceblue. This gives a lovely silvery shine to the projects.
I then applied some of the Inka-Gold to the wooden veneer piece
Using a Kaisercraft script stamp, I used black ink to stamp on the box and on the doily that is to go on top of the box.
I then sprayed the box twice with Helmar Crystal Kote Gloss Varnish spray.
I then applied washi tape around the lid of the box. Then, using the Helmar Premium Craft Glue adhere the doily onto the lid of the box
Then using the Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive adhere the embellishments into place. I prefer using the quick dry adhesive so I can easily stick things down - this dries quickly and clear.
In order to adhere the gorgeous silver peacock embellishment, I used Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots. I love these dots - they give the embellishment height and dimension.
Finally, I adhered some flowers, gems and sequins.
Thankyou for joining me - I hope you enjoyed this project tutorial. Here are some close up shots;
