Hello everyone! I’m so excited to share with you my first project with Helmar! We moved cross country almost one year ago and we are still settling into our home and decorating. I have been making updates to my daughter’s room and when I was trying to decide on a project, I knew she would love a little pretty item for her room. I went on the hunt for some pieces to make what I was envisioning in my head.
I found this little wall hanging and knew I could use it as a base and create something uniquely for her and in colors matching her new bedding. The edge was a pretty coral color already, and while the quote was cute, it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for in her room. I picked up some heavy canvas and cut it to size to cover the front but left the coral sides showing.
This left the perfect blank slate to build my project! I then painted the S dark blue with some acrylic paint. Pay attention and get the edges, too, to get a more finished look. Or, if you want a bit of extra depth and contrast, paint the edge a complimentary project or be extra careful and leave the edge the natural color. Whatever you choose, be sure to seal the paint for extra durablility. I used Helmar’s Crystal Kote Matte Varnish. The Glossy finish would also be beautiful if you prefer!
While that was drying, I grabbed some quilling papers and decided to make a few little flowers and leaves to decorate the front of my project. You can also use some paper scraps and trim some narrow pieces and roll them by hand. There’s no need to go buy special tools to make these little beauties! Helmar’s 450 Quick Dry Adhesive was the perfect glue to secure the ends of the paper to keep my flowers from unraveling.
Now the assembly! I layered my different elements and moved things around until I found a layout that was pleasing to my eye. Then I added a few more touches. After I was happy with the composition, I grabbed my 450 Quick Dry adhesive again for some of the pieces and others I used my Premium Craft Glue and glued everything into place. The Quick Dry was TOO quick for some of the quilled pieces to place them on the project! When's the last time you had a glue dry too quickly?!? I love that there are so many helmar glues to meet all of my crafting needs! I love how it turned out! I know my daughter will love it, too!
