Hi! Its Bridget here today. I am so excited to be sharing my first project with you on the Helmar blog. My first project is a very important one and that it is an ANZAC day craft.
ANZAC day is one of the most important national commemorative occasions in Australia and New Zealand. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand armed forces during World War One.
It is a very tricky subject to teach your children about, but an important one. I find a great way to teach our children is through activities like baking Anzac day cookies and craft.
Today I am sharing how to make a ANZAC day wreath.
Items you will need:
Egg carton
Tissue paper
red paint
black pom poms, or black buttons
a sheet of cardboard
green card stock
scissors
ribbon
Fabric paint
Helmar Fabric Glue
Helamr 450 Quick Dry Adhesive
Helmar Craft and Hobby PVA Glue
First we cut up the egg carton into individual sections, then we painted the outside red and allowed it to dry.
Draw and cut out a ring from a sheet of cardboard. We used red glitter cardboard, but you can just paint plain cardboard red.
Then we use Helmar's 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to glue the egg cartons to the ring making a wreath. My ring was quite large so we did end up cutting up another egg carton.
We then cut up some red tissue paper into rectangles and with a little Helmar Craft and Hobby PVA glue we glued in the tissue paper to create petals.
Next we placed a little black pom pom in the center of each egg carton with a little more Helmars craft and hobby glue.
To finish this off, my girls also wanted to add a few leaves, so we cut some leaf shapes out of green card stock and placed them randomly around the wreath. We also then got some blue velvet ribbon, which we wrote on "lest we forget" and with some Helmar Fabric Glue added this to the project.
Here is our completed project with a piece of rosemary which symbolises remembrance.
