I am really excited to share this project with you today. When I first found out that I had been accepted onto the Helmar Creative team, I started working on this project but it got put to the side and then I finished it but it didn't fit with my themes. So, today I am finally sharing it.
This project came about because I have a problem with my desk. I like to have things in front of me so I can easily reach them but this starts to take up too much room. I decided I needed something bigger than the standard pen/stationery holders for my brushes and a tray to put all my bits that don't have a home. I was at our local hardware shop and I had a brilliant idea. A Terracotta pot! I could add my own spin on it and they have trays too. There are heaps of sizes and the shape is perfect.

A Terracotta pot and tray
some acrylic paints
tissue paper
stamps
Stayzon Ink
Helmar Decoupage Paste
Crystal Kote Matte Spray
I took this photo after I had applied some colour to my pot so this is what is started out like:
I chose the tray from the pot the next size up because I needed more space. I then roughly applied splashes of acrylic paint with my fingers. Pink, green, blue. I didn't really think about it too much as I knew they would be covered up a fair bit. Once it had dried, over the top I applied some black acrylic using a brick stencil and my fingers. I didn't want clean edges, I was going for a grungy look. So I used a baby wipe to knock back the colour a bit.
Once that had dried ( I sped up the process with a heat gun), I stamped some images on tissue paper, then tore them out and using the decoupage paste, I glued them onto the pot in random places. The tissue paper kind of melts in and you get not rough edges. You are left with a stamp on the surface that would have been too hard to try and stamp a clear image on.
Once it had dried I sealed the whole project with Crystal Kote in Matte. Make sure you do this in a well ventilated area. I recommend outside.
And that is it. A simple project that solved a big problem.
