Guess what I got just in time for Easter? A journaling bible!! Many may ask what's that? Best way to describe it is as a bible with extra large spaces along the margins. The pages are really thin and I wanted to protect them so I plan to prime them a bit.. Let me show you my finished page!
I first began by getting the things I needed to make my primer/clear gesso.
The supplies included:
Helmar- Craft & Hobby PVA Glue
Helmar- Crystal Kote Matte Varnish
Fredrix Powdered Marble
Water
A jar with a lid
A Spoon
A cosmetic wedge
I originally saw this done on Youtube by Pink Poodle Crafts and decided to try it for myself! The reason I am choosing to use clear is because I am trying my best to be able to see the words through my work. If you didn't know you can often wipe away paints or protect the layer closest to the gesso. I really wanted to try this out for my new bible. I plan to draw and paint within it as a form of artistic worship and praise.
First I poured 4 ounces of the craft & hobby pva glue in a clean mason jar.
Then I added a little bit over an ounce of water. I wanted to make sure I got all the glue out the bottle so I added the water in the bottle and shaked it around before I poured it in the jar.
The I added 3 tablespoons of Fredrix Powdered marble.
Took a spoon and stirred it around for a while. (beause I like to.. :::haha:::)
Then I put the lid on and shook it up, for a while. When I decided to use it, I took the contents from the lid and used my cosmetic wedge to pick it up.
I dabbed the clear gesso to the page in my bible.
One it was dry I began to art with a pencil and then some water color paints and crayons.
Believe it or not unlike some of the other store bought brands of clear gesso, I found this super smooth. I almost thought I had done it wrong, until I used it! I am very pleased with my final page and I plan to use this clear gesso again in other art work. I hope you will join me and try this, you may tweak the ingredients based on the humidity and altitude of your surroundings. The recipe is NOT exact and I fond different people do slightly different things. The only things that stays the same is the use of white PVA glue, Water and white marble dust.
Happy Easter to you all. While you are preparing for the holiday I hope you get all your adhesives Helmar try. You deserve quality products on your fisnihed crafts and art projects!!
