Hi there
Lisa here today to share a sweet, quick & simple idea for a handmade gift.
I thought long & hard about this theme as it really could be anything & is quite open to interpretation.
So here is what I came up with.
The idea behind this gift was based on the thought of making something cute to put on my work desk. I am very visual & like to look at pretty things. I had everything I needed to make this in my stash - which is even better! I also thought this would be a fantastic gift for someone in hospital whereby fresh flowers are sometimes not allowed. It could also be a table centrepiece, you could make it birthday or celebration themed.
Supplies required:
A Jar you can purchase these at most discount stores, or recycle one
Shredded paper or scrunched up cellophane or tissue paper
Coloured paper straws
Ephemera & or Die cut pieces (I used a Crate Paper Chipboard Sheet)
Process:
Once I had all my supplies ready. I used talcum powder to remove the adhesive from the back of my chipboard pieces. You can miss this step - but if you do dust tends to be attracted to the adhesive.
I then filled the jar 3/4 of the way with my shredded paper & figured out my rough placement of my straws.
I then applied Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to the centre of the chipboard pieces, one at a time.
I then placed the straw as central as possible, holding it in place on the glue - ensuring that it doesn't peek out over the top of the chipboard.
Do this for all of your straws & chipboard pieces.
Set aside to let glue set properly.
I also decided to stick some smaller pieces directly to my jar.
I chose a bow & a "Hello" sentiment.
I applied baby powder to the reverse, then applied a small dob of the Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to them & held in place on the front of the jar.
I then placed the straws back in the jar, arranged them & topped it up with more shredded paper.
The purpose of this is that when you push the straws in it tends to push the paper down, so applying more afterwards helps it to sit nicely.
Here are some close ups of my finished project.
I hope you have enjoyed my share & I'd love to see your creation if you have a go at recreating it.
Thanks so much for stopping by.
