Handmade card with Lisa

Hi there, It's Lisa here today to share a handmade card.

I wanted to make a card that was simple to create yet has an effective look.

This is a card that you can create at home without any special tools, just your paper, trimmer, scissors & of course your Helmar adhesives.

I used Helmar Acid Free Glue (I love that this glue gives you time to move things slightly & that it doesn't wrinkle!)

I also used Liquid Scrap dots to make my chipboard piece sit up nicely to create a 3D effect.

Choose a selection of papers from your stash that co-ordinate. You can use scraps if you like, I used a 6inch paper pad - this way all the matching is already done for me. (I used Pink Paislees "Fancy Free")

I pre cut a card base from white stock (mine was approx 4x6 once folded) I then cut another card front just slightly smaller so I could layer it. This extra card front is what I decorated - I then glued it on once complete.

I cut strips from each of my pieces of paper. You can create the same effect regardless of the width you choose, I went with approx 1/2 inch.

Roughly arrange the strips across your card front at the desired angle. You can still move these around as you go.

I adhered one strip at a time by applying Helmar Acid free glue to the card stock base.

Ensure you are happy with your placement, it doesn't need to be exact - but should be pleasing to the eye. Let it dry, then turn it over & cut the overhang with sharp scissors.

Now you are ready to adhere the card front to your card.

I decided I wanted something more on the front of my card, you could leave it plain, add a simple sentiment or perhaps a number (age) I went with some chipboard pieces from the same collection.

I applied scrap dots to the back of the floral piece so it would sit up nicely, creating a 3D look.

Follow Your Heart Mixed Media Canvas

Hi all Vicki-Ann here today and I have made a Mixed Media Canvas project today. I thought I would make a small canvas using some scrap papers and my favourite Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste for the collage background.

What you will need.

• Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste
• Helmar Tacky Craft Glue
• Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots
• Canvas
• Scrap Paper and used postage stamps
• Stencil 
• Stamp
• Decoart Acrylic Paints and Gesso
• Hessian 
• Plasterers tape
• Gauze
• Letter stamps
• Black Ink
• Scissors
• Card Stock
• Washi Tape

I covered my canvas with torn scrap papers, I just choose some that appeal to me. I have been given a few random pieces of different papers as gifts with letter journals that I have received. So this has some of those included, it was really nice to be able to use them in this project. 

Using the Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste and the glue spreader. I added glue to the canvas and the back of the paper and then use the glue spreader to ease out any bubbles. This gives you a great smooth finish.

Then I added some Decoart paints in 3 different shades of blue and Gesso. Then added some stencilling with the Crafter workshop chicken wire stencil.

While this was drying I worked on the layers. I used some Gesso on the hessian and the gauze to blend them together a bit. Then used some Helmar Tacky Craft Glue to stick them together. For the Heart I used some Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste and glued it on to some cardstock to give it strength. Then I cut it into a heart shape and added a little plasterers tape, gesso and paint. I painted another sheet of book paper so that I could stamp the words on it for my saying. Also added a little bit of Tim Holtz washi tape on the top right and the bottom left edges of the canvas and a small piece on the heart. 

To add all the layers on top of my background I first placed it all together without glue and then took a photo to see if it looked right.

Then when I pull it off to glue it all on, I have a reference to know where my layers went and what order I wanted them to be. I have learned this is a great step when working on layers as otherwise you might not get the placement were you want it to be. You can look at your photo and go yep that is right. I wanted all of my postage stamps showing from the background so that is why I was a bit fussy with where I wanted it to be placed.

I wanted the plasterers tape on the background then the hessian and gauze layer. I glued these together with Helmar Tacky Craft Glue. Remember to pop some of the Helmar Tacky Craft Glue over the plasterers tape even though it is sticky you will still need to put some of the Helmar Tacky Craft Glue on it. It dries clear so you wont see it. I spread it around over it. Next is the heart layer that I have used the Helmar Tacky Craft Glue to pop the torn stamped words on. 

When I stuck the heart on top using the Helmar Tacky Craft Glue I noticed that I had a bit more dimension than I thought. So I used some of the Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots wonderful stuff that. I just raised the bits up that needed the extra dimension and squeezed the Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots under the parts that needed the extra lift. It was under the ends of the words and the tips of the heart.

Tea Bag/ Gift Card Holders

Hi again. It has been raining for days here, almost feels like fall. In Iowa, you never know what kind of weather you will have from day to day.

I want to show you how you can make a little gift for a friend that needs a little down time, or for you and your friends to have at a luncheon you may be having with them at your home. Or, you can even make them into gift card holders.

Here is a list of what you will need:
(You can adjust it as you please but this is what I used)

Designer paper
2 different size punches
Stamps
Ink pad
Helmar Premium Craft Glue
Helmar Scrap Dots
I used Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Victorian Velvet and Vintage Photo
colored pencils
Velcro
Tea Bags or Gift Cards

1. Cut your designer paper to 3 3/4" x 9 3/4"
2. 
   
   2. Score at 3 1/4" turn your paper around and score the other side at 3 1/4" (my score board is a small one)
   3. Fold at your score lines
   4. On the right hand side (there will be 3 panels) panel, cut a diagonal from bottom to top

1. 5. Distress all your edges

   6. Punch out your circles (I used 2 different size scallop punches) and distress them

4. Then Glue the smaller one to the bigger one
5. 
   Add this piece to the front of the holder using Helmar Scrap Dots to give it dimension

   7. Color your stamp image if you choose
   8. Glue to the inside far left panel

   9. Use a small bead of glue on the bottom of the far right side panel and glue to middle panel. This should only be glued at the bottom.

   10. Insert your tea bags or gift cards
   11. Add a piece of velcro to the inside to keep it closed.

You're done! Tuck it into a nice coffee mug, wrap it in cellophane and tie a ribbon bow on the top. Embellishing these are endless; see some suggested steps below....
