Hi it's Bridget here again to share with you the latest craze that has kids getting out side! Fidget spinners came and went, bottle flipping is over but hand painting rocks the hiding and finding them is in! It is also an activity that gets the whole family involved (even dad painted a rock in his favorite footy team colors) Here is a example of some of our rocks.
What you need:
Helamr Super Tac Glue
Helmar Crystal Kote Gloss Varnish
Rocks, unpolished is best as sometimes the paint wouldn't stick to the polished
googly eyes
sharpies (or other paint pens)
Paint/nail polish
First step is painting your rocks, your imagination is your limitation! I have seen some amazing ones on the internet; just google rock art craft. You can go as simple as a pink rock or as complicated as a van goh painting (amazing!) On the back write your local Facebook site your sharing with and your post code, maybe even a hashtag. You might see your rock's journey!
After drying, seal with Crystal Kote Varnish. I love using the gloss as it gives the rocks a great shine.
Then if your creation requires googly eyes, or you have a unicorn horn or another fimo creation to add on use Helmar super tac glue.
After they have dried it is time to get hiding and hunting!! Head to your local park (or adventure to a new one) and hide your rocks. If your lucky you might even find some. Take time to enjoy being outdoors while there! Don't forget to post on a local facebook that you did a rock drop.
Once again here are some of my family's creations
I love how this activity gets kids away from technology and happily crafting. Until we ran out of stones I didn't get one "can we have some ipad time" So I am off to buy some more rocks. I hope you add your family join in on this fun craze. Rock on!
