A Gift For You

I don't know about you, but I enjoy making little gifts for family and friends. Today I am going to show you a fun project that will brighten up someone's desk! It is a personalized post it note pad. 

 For this project you will need two pieces of cardboard measuring 3 1/4" x  31/4" and one piece 1/4" x 3 1/4". You will also need pattern paper and your favourite Helmar glue. I chose to use the Tacky Craft Glue which dries clear and has a flexible bond. 

 

Layout the pieces on the inside of the pattern paper as shown in this photo - 

 

Leave a bit of space between the smaller piece and each cover. Fold like you are wrapping a present and glue down.

Cut two pieces of pattern paper 3" x 3" and glue to the inside covers. This will give the inside a finished look. 

 

 

Glue the last page of a post it note pad to the inside bottom cover. Fold the top and decorate with flowers and other embellishments. And there you have it! A lovely post it note pad for your desk or anywhere you have a phone! Once the pad is gone, just simply refill and keep using. You can make these to match any decor. The ideas are limitless.

Hello crafty friends, Sarah here with my last blog post for the Helmar Creative team!  What an amazing design team to be a part of - thankyou to the whole Helmar family for having me and being so generous with spreading the love of Helmar products!

Today I am showcasing my most favorite Helmar product - it has to be the Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.  I have also used the 'Off the Wall' Just Add Paper Kit from D-lish Scraps for this layout. Their website is http://d-lishscraps.openstores.com.au/

Step 1 - Take your background paper of choice.  Using distress inks, I put some on the plastic packaging of the kit, spritzed with water and 'smoosched' on to the page.  Dry in between each colour to avoid the colours mixing.

 

Step 2 - Apply more colour as you wish to create your background. While this is drying, colour the brick patterned cardstock from the kit using distress inks - I used tones of brown and dark blue for this layout.

Step 3 - Adhere the brick patterns to the background and adhere your photos

Step 4 - Adhere your embellishments to the page - I just love the AWESOME wood veneer in this kit as well as the labels. I adhered some twince using the Helmar 450 Quick Dry adhesive and adhered a flair button on top.  Apply pieces of washi tape from the kit as you would like to the layout. To finish the layout, I doodled around the edges using a black fineliner.

Stitch it up

Hi its Bridget here again.  Today I want to share with you a scrapbooking technique that has been around for a long time, but I have only just decided to try it out.  First of let me show you the completed project.

What I used:

Helmar 450 quick dry glue

A sewing machine/cotton thread

cardstock

colourblast paste

watercolour

stamps/ink

embelishments

I honestly dont know why it took me so long to try the sewing technique.  Maybe it was the idea of pulling the big heavy machine out of the cupboard??  But I had to hem a school dress so out it came and while out decided now is the time to try this technique. I love the effect and texture it adds to my page. 

I started off simple by doing a border in white cotton on white cardstock.

I loved the look so I added a few more lines where I was planning on putting my photo.

Next I added some colourblast paste with a stencil.

Then I added some stamping and black watercolour splatters

Then using Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive attached my papers, photos and embellishments.  Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive is my favorite go to glue.  After spending so much time on the background of my pages, waiting for things to dry (I often find a heat gun takes away shine or blows my watercolor around too much) I just want to finish my page and Helmar 450 quick dry glue is a perfect solution for me.

Handmade Crepe Paper Rosette & Tag with Lisa

Hi there Helmar fans!

Lisa here today I am sharing a Craft Technique that is possibly one of my faves.

In this tutorial I'll show you how I make a Crepe Paper Rosette that you can put in your Scrapbooking, on a Gift, on a Card, on a Gift tag like I have - or maybe you have some other ideas for them.

They are quick & easy to create & look really cute!

So here is what you'll need:

Here are the adhesives I used...

Helmar 450 Quick Dry

Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots

Helmar Craft Glue

You'll also need some Crepe Paper (I found this is my newsagents in a long thin packet)

A Circle punch (or hand cut them) I find 1 to 1 1/2 inches works well

Patterned paper, stickers, thread & sequins (really whatever you have in your stash that you'd like to decorate with)

 

Tutorial:

Cut a strip of Crepe paper approx 1 1/2 inches wide - I just cut the entire length of the crepe paper as it comes folded ( you can cut off any extra as you go).

Using your fingers create a rough concertina fold with the crepe paper - it's easier to do a bit at a time.

Hold together with a clip whilst you get the next step ready.

Apply Helmar 450 Quick dry to the centre of one of the punched circles & spread the glue with the nozzle - leaving about 1/4 of an inch with no adhesive on the outer edge.

Start attaching the concertinaed crepe paper to the adhesive, do not worry if it is messy & not perfect. Just get it glued down & we can fix that later.

As you can see it doesn't look great here - keep reading.

Adhere another circle to this side using your Helmar 450 Quick Dry.

At this point I decide which side I want to be the top.

Then get some small scissors & trim the excess of untidy bits around the circle. Go slow - nothing worse than getting carried away then there is nothing left lol

I adhered some gold thread with some more 450 quick dry to add some interest.

I then applied a few dots of Liquid Scrap Dots so that the next layer would sit up higher. This way the thread just peeks out.

Time to decorate...Tiny word stickers work well - but really whatever takes your fancy.

I used the 450 Quick Dry to adhere the sequins. 

Time to make a really quick tag to put it on. Cut whatever size you would like or use a pre-made one.

I used card stock that is good for mixed media so I could spray it without warping. (I like Bazzill Marshmallow)

Once you cut one corner by eye - use that corner to mirror the other side to cut it the same (see pic)

Punch a hole using a standard hole punch to finish your tag off.

I used a Gold Shimmer spray from my stash to spray liberally then dried it off.

I then inked the edges to give it a finished look.

I used the Helmar Craft Glue for less heavy duty jobs like sticking on the hole reinforcer ring.

Add some string to your tag too by threading it thru the punched hole.

I also used it to apply the Rosette as once I was finished I was happy enough to wait a bit longer for it to dry & still has a really great hold.

Make it a UNICORN Day!

Tamiko here and I have a confession. I just can't stop this small obsession... of making planner clips.  I find a cute little image that makes me smile, and I am suddenly. pulled.back.in. one adorable image at a time! Sometimes I find myself just sorting through google images for clip worthy images. Especially things I've never seen before. Check out these!!

 Supplies used to create clips:

Helmar Premium Craft Glue

Helmar Fabric Stiffener

*Free Images from Google (color them in advance to save time)

*Clear gesso

*Sakura Koi Color Brush Markers

*Super Doodle Glitter Gel Pens

Laminator

laminator pouches

Jumbo paperclips

Scissors

misc sequins and mini punches flowers

*indicates items you can use in advance to color images

 

So once I find the images I want to work with and apply a little clear gesso, I am good to color them. I cut them out and place them in pouches created to run through the laminator for a little bit of a different look.  I cut them once more through the laminator sheet paying close attention not to cut too close around the airpockets between the image and bonded pouch.

Once cut,  I flip them over and apply a big drop of Helmar's Premium Craft Glue. I love how it comes it in a thick gel form, that allows for the flip to nestle deeply into the adhesive and feel supported.  It dries extra super crystal clear, so no need to worry about dropping too much or it oozing beyond the targeted area. I also placed a piece of felt to cover my glue work and give the product a more finished appearance. Yes it's a planner clip, but who say's because it's home made it has to look home made!! (smiles)

 If you wanted to go the extra mile you could also add Helmar Fabric Stiffener to the felt to give it extra body.  Give that a few moment to bond before adding any external embellishments!

Print making doubling as ART | Krisy Podolak

Hi Helmar fans,

Krisy back today with my last post as a member of the Helmar Creative Team.  I am now a full time student and my time is very stretched so I have had to give up a few things and unfortunately design teams is one.  But anyways, enough about me, today I am tapping into another trend and sharing with you some ideas that you might like to try.

If you haven't seen them yet there is such as thing as a Gelli plate or Gel Press that is a gelatine type printing plate that makes monoprints.  You apply paint to them with a brayer then make marks, put a piece of paper over the top, rub it a bit and then pull the print.  It is really quite fun and addictive.  What does this have to do with Helmar I hear you ask?  Well I have been playing with ideas on different ways to make patterns and by chance these can double as art itself.

Here is what you will need:

Some paper - Magazine pages, book pages or newspaper.  (Depending if you want to keep your template at the end, I found newspaper it the best.

Helmag 450 Quick Dry Glue

A piece of very stiff cardboard or wood

A gelli plate or similar but you could just use the template as a stamp so this is not entirely necessary

Paint.

First things first, You need to make your rolls. 

To make rolls take a piece of newspaper and simply roll it into long thin tubes.  The best way to do this is to use the handle of a paint brush or a BBQ skewer.  Secure your roll with a strip of Helmar 450.

 

Repeat this process until you have enough rolls to cover your cardboard or wood.  You can arrange your rolls as you like.  I did some horizontal and some vertical.  Then you glue them in place.  The rolls can be cut just using a pair of scissors.

In not long your glue will be dry and you will be ready to make some prints.

Here are my finished template...I had already used it, I forgot to take a progress photo.

Here's what it looks like from the side.

Now to make some prints.  Start by brayering some paint onto your plate, press on your template removed it and place a piece of paper onto the plate.  Rub gently and then start pulling prints.  Alternatively you can apply the paint directly onto your template and use it as a stamp.

Here are some I prepared earlier.

 

To make the circles, I flattened the long tube and then rolled the cross section down along the length of the paper.  Secure it in place with some glue and then glue them to the backboard.  

These are pretty awesome art works as is especially if you use colourful magazines but if you do use them to print with you have endless possibilities of what you can make with your prints.  You can frame them as is or cut them up and used them in your art journals or on your scrapbooking layouts securing them in place with Helmar Professional Acid Free of course as it's my favourite glue ever!

Handmade Hexagon Flower Cards by Rachel Lowe:

Today I have some hexagon flower cards for you.

Firstly I went through my stash and collected some co ordinating papers and matched some embellishments.

I then cut a hexagon template at approximately 1 inch. I then cut 7, six for the outer petals and one for the centre.

I then traced on white card stock the whole hexagon flowers shape. I then attached my pretty paper individual hexagons with Helmar Quick Dry 450 glue.

At this step I added machine sewing around the edge of the hexagon flower (so you will not see the sewing on the back as you will attach this to more white card stock.

On a piece of A4 white card stock I traced around the hexagon flower shape and cut it out but leaving one edge of a hexagon attached. I then traced on the other side of the card stock duplicating the hexagon flower. You should end up with two hexagon flowers side by side attached  by the paper hinge on one hexagon side.

Now for the fun part of decorating your card front. I again used Helmar Quick Dry 450 glue to attach die cuts and words. I have used Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots to add a top die cut flower to add height.

I have splattered some black paint over my hexagon flower, I have attached some paper flowers with Helmar Scrap liquid dots to add height.

I have used wood veneer sentiment words in the centre of my cards and have used Helmar PVA glue to ensure they stay good and firm!

Again I splattered lightly some black paint and finished off with some small die cut flowers, adding Helmar liquid scrap dots to top flower.

and I in Central Park, NYC. We had a wonderful holiday in the USA back in 2010.
New York was one of my very favourite places. It felt like magic there.

I started randomly with the ink spray, pretty paper, the Darkroom Door strips and photo placement
for these I used Helmar Professional Acid Free Glue

 Helmar Scrap Dots are fabulous for dimension on embellishments

The tassel I used is quite heavy but Helmar premium craft glue keeps in safely in place

And using Helmar Foam Glue keeps these alpha's 'stuck'!

To finish the layout I applied sequins and beads with Helmar Gemstone Glue

Owl with a flower

Hi everyone Vicki-Ann here for the Helmar Creative Team today.

Recently my daughter had her birthday and every year I make her a small owl canvas instead of a card. 

Items you will need to make this canvas

• Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste
• Helmar Crystal Kote Picture Varnish Matte Spray
• Helmar paint and glue spreader
• Small Canvas 12.7 x 17.8 cm or 5" x 7" inches
• DecoArt Americana Paints
• Vintage book paper
• Pens for doodling
• Prima tiny circle stamp
• Printed paper or paint splattered papers from your desk 
• Paint brushes and palette knife

First I painted my background using 3 different Acrylic colours and a palette knife blending to get some variations in colours. I added clouds and the big flower adding white painted highlights. 

Using the papers that I have on my desk from when I do other projects in my art journal. I cut the owl shape and added that using the Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste and the paint and glue spreader. I add the Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste to the back of the paper and to the canvas and then spread out any bubbles. Once this was dry I added painted wings adding layers of paint to try and match the papers on the body. I added circles of the vintage book paper with more of the Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste  I then thought he needed a beak so cut some more paper for the beak. Once it was all dry I added eyes and painted the eyelids in a skin tone colour.  

 

 

Once everything is dry I love to add tiny details and doodles. Mainly just squiggles and lines filling in with my Signo white Uniball pen. I like to leave it all overnight to dry thoroughly then I add 3 coats of the Helmar Crystal Kote Picture Varnish Matte Spray This seals it from dust and keeps it from fading.  My daughter loved her small owl canvas and I gave her a small wooden easel so it could sit on the shelf. 

Hanging Porch Shades

Hello everyone, Donna here to show you a quick project I did for my front porch. I love sitting out on my porch in the spring and summer. It is screened in but sometimes, during the day, it just gets too hot when the sun is shining in when you are sitting out there. Also, when I am sitting out there at night I sometimes just want privacy without having cars passing by or people walking by and able to look in when I am on the computer or have the small lights on that I have hanging up around the porch. Soooooo, while at work one day, I was putting up clearance tags on some Sea Grass Beach Mats and thought "Huh, I could make shades out of those for my porch" LOL and so I purchased what I needed (at a great price I might add).

They were the perfect length for what I needed them for so no altering them at all, a plus on my part! 

What I used:

Sea Grass Beach Mats

Hook and Loop Strips

Staples (to staple the hook and loop strips to mats until glue dried)

Helmar Super Strength PVA Wood Glue

This is what the mats look like.

 

I then cut strips of the Hook and Loop strips and attached one piece to the mat and the other to the wood on the porch.

This is where I stapled it to the mat until the glue dried because they were so long I didn't want to piece to move around.

Then attached the other piece to the porch wood.

When they both had dried, I hung them up....

 

I LOVE it! Now at night, I can turn on my small lights and read, craft or use my computer without the thought of someone may be watching me LOL. So if you ever see these on sale, grab them up, they make great curtains or shades for a porch or whatever you may use them on.
