A Bird Sitting on a Branch

My mom is in a nursing home. Every time i visit I try to bring her something I made. She was always an artist and is so happy I have begun dabbling with art supplies. 

 

I enjoy creating mixed media canvases and could not wait to start creating with these beautiful papers from Rinea!

This paper is made of two layers of aluminum foil with a layer of paper in between. This makes it sturdy but also able to be shaped. The colors truly add a sparkle to any project! 

My supplies included a flat panel canvas, tissue paper, Rinea foil papers, stamps and dies and my favorite glues - Gemstone Glue  ,  Tacky Craft Glue and ScrapDots.

I began by adhering the tissue paper to the canvas using the tacky glue and a glue spreader.

Once the tissue paper was dry, I used paints and stamps and stencils to create a background. 

Using my die cutter, I cut a bird and flowers from the Rinea paper. This paper works wonderfully with a die cutter!  I hand cut feathers for his wing and tail. I also stamped on the flowers and leaves.  I used a tool with a ball tip to outline the stamped lines on the bird and flowers. 

I recommend the Gemstone glue for this project. I put the feathers on the bird and created my flower cluster.

Here is a close up of the feathers. I formed them by pinching or using the end of a brush. Don't you love the colors and shine?!? 

I stamped and cut out butterflies and using the end of a brush shaped the wings. I used Scrap Dots to adhere them and give them dimension.

And here is the finished canvas. I think this will brighten my mom's room on a gloomy winter day! 

I recommend Rinea paper for those projects which needs a sturdy paper but one that you can shape. And the foil colors are just delightful!

Making Memories

Hey hey folks Tamiko here!! 2018 is upon us can you believe it? My daughter is 12 and soon to be 13 in April and nothing about our family is traditional (laughs loudly)! I am forever looking for ways to teach my daughter that with new things, comes new beginnings and new adventures (smile) and that it is ok. While I embrace the new, she has a tendency to want to keep things the same almost everyday.  I do notice with teaching her, that she has grown familiar and creating her own type of symbolism. Holidays; she expects to see family and make memories and that's all good, but for New Years we currently don't do anything b.i.g. because we are still in Christmas mode.  I like to make things special for her, because I know she is a true genuine memory keeper. That brings me to today's project (smile).

The items needed to create this project are:

• Helmar's Super Tac Glue.
• Helmar's Premium Craft Glue
• Fine Liner Applicator
• Gypsy Laser Cuts- Garden Fairies (small) and ATC Shrine- Time
• Deco Art Acrylics
• Cosmic Shimmer Gilding Flakes
• Small brush
• Digital image
• Green wire
• Cardstock

 

I began by putting the ATC holder/shrine together and using Super Tac Glue in the applicator to dispense sparingingly. This glue is very fluid and I don't want to use to much. It dries clear and and gets tacky super fast.

 

Then I took my finger and added a little bit of acrylics to kind of distress the wood or age it a bit. Placed glue on bits of the painted parts for detail.  I allowed the glue to dry. Then I took the shimmer flakes and pat them with my finger to the tacky areas.  The tack is just strong enough to pull bits of the flakes for a superb metallic finish!

 

I then took to applicator and applied more Super Tac to areas of the front door and time piece and let it dry.  It still dries tacky. Did the same procedure on my seated fairy. I then printed the digital image from from google, since I am not using it to sell.. I think its ok to use.  I also placed it along the back of the ATC shrine and added even more glitter to the flowers I placed.

 

I also at the last minute decided my seated fairy on a flower should appear to float so I got out some green flexible wire (twisted it up) and a few bits of cardstock to secure it the shrine base and fairy with flower backing using Helmars premium craft glue.

Party Hats - Lydia

 
It's party time over here on the Helmar blog today as I share a fun DIY party element that you could use for upcoming New Years.

So today I am sharing my process of making some DIY party hats.

For this project I used:

• Helmar Fabric Glue
• Helmar Super-Tac Glue
• 12x12 patterned paper
• Pom pom ribbon
• Wool
• DIY party hat template (found on Pinterest)

First thing I did was find a party hat template sampling by searching on Pinterest, printing and cutting it out. I than picked out 3x patterned papers that I wanted to use and traced the party hat template onto them and cut them out.

Once all papers were cut out I used Helmar Super-Tac Glue to adhere both sides together to form a cone.

Now for the fun part decorating. I decided these hats needed a little something on the top so I got some white wool and made some pom poms. I than used Helmar Fabric Glue to adhere onto the top of the party hats.

And lastly I did add the pom pom ribbon to the base edge of the hates and added a some twine for you to tie it on your head.

Merry Christmas! Lisa sharing a Christmas Morning Project

Merry Christmas to you & yours.

Today I am sharing a project which is themed "Christmas morning"

I decided on a Project Life Scrapbook spread as I have so many photos of my kids over the years on Christmas morning.

We always make a big deal of the waking up & seeing what Santa has left. My kids are 19 & 16 now - so they don't really care for it so much these days lol but certainly still like to get presents.

So here is my spread which is a double project life layout.

I have done project life for a few years now - I don't always do complete weeks as such, rather use the layout format to capture lots of photos of one event. In my album I alternate both project life pages & traditional scrapbook pages.

My choice of adhesives for this project were...

Acid Free Glue

Liquid Scrap Dots

As part of this tutorial I thought I'd show you how I start a PL spread.

I cut/trim all my photos to size ( I usually print 3x4) 

I lay the photos out on top of the page protector to get an idea of what will go where & which photos i'll use.

After the photos I then start laying out some ephemera to figure out what looks good where.

Once I have roughly laid out the photos & ephemera I then choose matching patterned papers to fill in the gaps. I cut them to size & decide on layering & which items I may want to pop up with Liquid Scrap dots.

Once everything is set up I start gluing all the background papers & layers together.

I like to create a 3D look on some of the elements across the pages as it adds extra interest & helps bring everything together.

I love with Liquid Scrap Dots that I can decide the height of the item just by applying as much of the adhesive & or pressure when applying to suit my needs.

Here are lots of close ups of the completed spread - so you can get a really good look.

Merry Christmas Banner

I have a new granddaughter and while she is still a bit too young to help with crafting, I did want to have her make hand and footprints for me to use in a project. At 7 months old, she is always on the go so slathering her hands and feet in paint and getting the print before the paint went everywhere else was a chore! But, we got it accomplished. 

 

 

My supplies included a large variety of pattern papers, embellishments, tags, etc. and most importantly, Helmar 450 Quick Dry!

 

Once I decided on the order,  I began turning the prints into trees, Santa, etc by adding doodles or embellishments such as hats and a face. The 450 dries quick and clear making it the perfect glue for this. 

The next step was to piece together each banner. I cut two pattern papers for each banner and added other strips and tags. I again used my 450 to glue all of the pieces together. 

The finishing step was to add ribbon and ties. Don't you love how this turned out? I made three - one for my daughter, one for her mother in law and one for me. It will be a special keepsake to have for years to come! 

This type of project is one you can get your kids involved in - especially if they are a bit older. And, it is a great way to use up those scraps and bits and pieces. Just be sure to use your Helmar 450 Quick Dry to glue it all together.

Star Ornament

Happy Holidays!! I absolutely love this time of year! I think I have loved making Christmas ornaments since I was a kid, I remember making some out of home made clay in school, and I made some at home using the small styrofoam balls to make snowman ornaments with googly eyes. So when I decided to make this star ornament, I knew it would be simple enough for a school aged child to make this! 

I began by using a light chipboard mailing envelope that I kept to be able to recycle it. This was the perfect project for this! You can also use a cereal box as well. I began by cutting the envelope into (2) Pieces, I then had a mini album with the star pattern to trace it on both of the pieces of chipboard then cut them out. 

       

I then needed to score all of the points & open edges from the tip/opening to the center of the star. Did this with both . Then I matched them up and adhered it using my hot glue gun since I needed it to glue fast. After cleaning up the edges from the glue strings, I then cut up my book paper to glue it on using Helmar Acid Free Glue, I just poured some onto my craft mat and added a spray of water and used a paint brush to apply the book pages first. I wanted to make it sturdy so being that I only had (1) music sheet, I let it dry before adding the last layer which was the music sheet. I added one more layer of glue without water so it would seal and have a little shine. 

               

After it all dried completely, I made a whole using my crop a dile, then added twine to hang it up from. I wanted to add some glitter so I used some products from DecoArts, I applied the Glitter Glue along the edges of the star then sprinkled some of the glitter on top. I had some beautiful Christmas Papers from Pion Designs that had a variety of cut outs. I chose this vintage Santa. I cut it, distressed the edges with Vintage photo distress ink. I adhered it to a white Prima flower using Helmar 450 Quick Dry Glue. Lastly I added some glitter glue to the edges of the flower and sprinkled glitter and adhered it with Helmar 450 Quick Dry Glue to the center of the star.

Winter Scrapbook Page

Hi everyone Erin Reed here today.  I have not done a scrapbook page in a long time, but a recent challenge encouraged me to dust off my scrappy skills and make one again, and boy did it feel good and it was a blast!  I really do miss it and need to make more very soon!  The pictures are from our time in Colorado last winter, so lots of playing in the snow, skiing, sledding, building snowmen, and just having good family fun.

I used the Helmar Professional Acid Free Glue to help glue down all the embellishments on this page, and there are a ton.  I have chipboard, punched items, foil paper, plastic, and swirls.  I needed a good glue that was acid free to it did not damage my picture, and Helmar came to the rescue!

Don't forget to keep those memories of your trips alive with a little journaling, it's 10 years ago you and will forget all the things that happened and also you might forget what year you had the trip!  Write it all down before you forget it all, for that is half of the point of doing a scrapbook page.

Christmas Wreath

Hi its Bridget here again to share another Christmas decoration I made. I recently moved and my Christmas wreath did not survive the move. While I was thinking of what type of wreath I wanted I decided I wanted to include  lilies .  Growing up we always had them around Christmas time and they remind me of my mum. Here is the finished wreath.

What you need:

Wreath (I got mine from Riot)

Artificial flowers

Christmas baubles (I got mine from Coles)

Christmas stars (I got mine from Coles)

Helmar 450 Quick Dry Glue

This is a really simple craft I just worked out roughly where I wanted the lilies then using Helmar 450 Quick Dry Glue I glued them in place.  Helmar Quick Dry adhesive is the best glue to use for this craft as the twigs are so uneven the ornaments will just roll away if they had a long drying time.

I love using Helmar 450 Quick Dry Glue for crafting projects.  I no longer get burns from those nasty hot glue guns!

Once again here is my finished wreath. I love how simple this is and every time I look at it I think of my mum.

The layout I'm sharing today is a photo taken on Christmas day last year -
here in Melbourne it was 36°!

I wanted my layout to be fun and bright, it was such a hot day
with a lot of laughs. I was taking a selfie with my Mum, and my
son, daughter and sister all jumped in. I chose to use the colours 
of our Christmas cracker hats, I wanted unconventional colours
for this fun photograph.I started off with water colours smudged
across the page,adding the pretty papers and photograph with
Helmar Super Tac glue.

To apply the embellishments I used a few different products.
I used Helmar Super Tac Glue on the title which kept lifting. I very
carefully used a Helmar scraper (so handy) to apply some glue
to the alpha's so they wouldn't move.

Next I added some ribbon with Helmar Fabric Glue

And for the flair I used Helmar Scrap Dots, it works so well on the
inside of the flair so it doesn't fall off the page.

Again I used the Helmar scraper to apply a tiny bit of Helmar Super Tac Glue
to attach the gorgeous Christmas lights.

I thoroughly enjoyed creating this Christmas layout with Helmar's brilliant adhesives.

Christmas Baubles - Lydia

 

Hello, everyone, Lydia back to get into the Christmas spirit with a little DIY decoration. This little project is really simple yet, cute.

So here is what I used to create a bauble.

• Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA Glue
• Plastic DIY bauble
• Ink Spray
• Stencil
• Cardstock

 First thing I did was use my chosen stencil and Ink spray on some white cardstock and went to work stenciling. For this project I used Dylusions Ink Spray in the colour Pomegranate Seed, which is a perfect red for Christmassy projects.

 

Using the little template that came in the bauble I just traced it using a pencil onto my stenciled background an cut two out for both the font and back. I did however have to trim pieces for it to fit into the bauble.

 

 

I than adhered boh cut out pieces back to bac using the Helmar Craft & Hobby Glue, I can note that any of the adhesives will work for this project.

 

 

Now you always have to have some sort of bling for Christmas, so using Helmar Craft & Hobby Glue again I adhered some silver sequins.

 

 

And lastly I placed the back to back background inside the plastic bauble and finished it off with a gorgeous paper flower.
