Christmas Placemats

Hi all  Vicki-Ann here today and I am making some placemats for my Christmas table. 

Items you will need. 

• Helmar Decoupage Craft Paste
• Helmar Paint and glue spreader
• Helmar Crystal Kote Picture Varnish Matte Spray Varnish
• Wooden placemats (they sell these at most craft stores)
• Christmas music paper or Christmas themed scrapbook papers
• I printed off some music paper to use. If you would like to have these to use in your projects they are a free download and available here. 
• Decoart gold Metallic Luster 
• Sandpaper or cardboard nail file

So I used some other music papers for the edges, as the A4 sheet of music paper was not quite big enough to cover my star. Using the Helmar Decoupage and craft paste, I spread it onto my star placemat and on the back of the music paper. 

Then using the Helmar paint and glue spreader I smoothed out any bubbles. Then I cut out the A4 sheet of music paper using the same technique with the Helmar decoupage and craft paste I placed  over the top. Spreading out any bubbles. 

When it is all dry I go around the edges with sandpaper or a cardboard nail file to smooth all the edges and get any of the remaining paper, that is overlapping the edge. 

I then used some Decoart gold Metallic Luster to add a bit of sparkle all around the edges.  I used it here and there on the front too just because well you can’t have too much gold sparkle. 

 

 

To finish it off and to protect it I sealed it with 2 coats of Helmar Crystal Kote in the Matte Spray Varnish. 

I think these will look great on my table on Christmas Day now I just need to make 7 more. 

Snowflake Door Decoration

 Jean here today! I live in Michigan and sometimes it seems that we get more than our fair share of snow. But I have to say, nothing is prettier than the glistening and sparkly snow on a frosty winter day.  Today I want to share with you this glittery snowflake project which is perfect for your front door. 

 

 

I started with wood pieces as follows:

6 - 12 inch pieces with pointed end (A)

12 - 5 inch pieces with one slanted end (B)

12 - 3 inch pieces with one slanted end (C)

These are about 1/4 inch thick. 

 For this project you will need Helmar PVA Professional Wood Working Glue, Helmar Craft and Hobby PVA Glue, and Helmar Crystal Kote Gloss Spray.

 

 Using the Wood Working Glue, affix the shorter pieces on the longer ones to look like arrows

 

Paint all of the pieces white. Once dry apply glitter using the Craft and Hobby Glue. Spread a good coat of the glue and sprinkle liberally. 

 

After the glitter has dried, glue the centers of the arrows together with the Wood Glue. I used a scrap circle of wood on the back to hold them securely. Allow to dry completely. I sprayed each piece of the snowflake with Crystal Kote to help prevent the glitter from falling all over and to protect it from the elements.  You can decorate the center if you wish. 
 

 

I used a poinsettia and a lovely snowflake ribbon for the center. And here is the finished project. I think this is the perfect tough for the front door! 

 

 Is it cold and snowy by you? Why not get out your glue and glitter and make your own decorative snowflakes! No wood available? You could recreate this on a smaller scale with cardboard.
