Hello everyone!! Jeanne here back with this awesome tag that I made for this month's project!! Today's project I decided I would use more of the Helmar Fabric Glue. Plus I had received a small haul of laces that I was super anxious to use and new it would look great with this amazingly new paper from Prima Marketing!! I hope that you feel inspired by this project to mix up laces, a little mixed media, and most of all inspired to have fun just as I did creating this tag!! 

 

 I began my choosing my papers , in this case I had some left over papers from one of the new Prima collections called Amelia Rose. I absolutely love floral pattern, as well as black . I gathered most of the products I thought I might use from my stash and got to it! The tag I used is a tag that measure 6 1/4 X 3 1/2, its a great size to work with. I begin by adhering the tag directly onto the edge of the paper that I will be using. On this tag I used score tape to adhere the paper to the tag, I then cut along the edge with scissors. I find this easier than measuring the paper then adhering it to the tag but you can do what you find is easiest for you. I then used my Prima distress tool all along the edges of the tag to distress a bit and sort of blend the edges of the paper and tag together. 

I then ripped a piece of the paper with the black and pink floral background, I used a punch on one end and distressed the rest of it with my distress tool, I then added Black Soot Distress Ink around the edges. I had bought some small packs of paper doilies @ Joann's $2 section and picked out pink, dark gray, & white packages. So I chose to use this gray one, I cut in half so I don't waste a whole one that will be covered by paper. So I adhered that first, I had cut a small piece of pink lace to put across the tag, so for that I used Helmar Fabric Glue , and lastly adhered the small piece of torn paper , I used Acid Free Glue on both the paper a doily. 

 
              

          
  

 Once I was finished with that, I begin embellishing with some a piece of matching ephemera from the paper collection. I adhered it using the Liquid Scrap Dots which is one of my favorite adhesives from Helmar! I added some stunning lace at the bottom of the tag as well. I adhered that with the Fabric Glue from Helmar as well. I had some matching crystals so I added a few of them in different areas of the tag and used the wonderful adhesive Helmar Gemstone Glue. I then added a grommet to the top using my crop a dile  and added some black seam binding . 

                                           

 I also wanted to add something extra for more details so I added some Prima Sugar in Pink, Black and White to the Prima flowres I had added. Once I was finished with that I splattered some glimmer mists from DecoArts. I lastly added some DecoArts Liquid glass on the small "Note" ephemera .

Product Spotlight - Favourite product with Lisa

Lisa here today to share a project with you that uses my favourite Helmar Product.

I don't really like to choose just one - but that's the brief lol

I really do love them all as they all have their own purpose. 

So I'll tell you that one of absolute favourites & what I'm going to focus on today is Helmar Liquid Scrap dots.

 

 

I had never used liquid scrap dots until I started on the creative team for Helmar.

Since I first tried it - it's become a firm regular on my desk when I am creating.

I used to use foam tape. hopefully in this post I can show you the  benefits of using the Liquid Scrap dots.

 

Here is the project I created...

I am really happy with the end result of my project. I particularly like is that a few simple items with the help of liquid scrap dots can make a big impact.

This is what I started with.

I adhered the grey floral tag to my white tag base using Helmar Premium Craft Glue.

I then applied liquid scrap dots on the circle key embellishment piece.

I applied it fairly evenly, this way when I place it on the project it will set evenly, that being said - gently touching & pressing on the element you are adhering helps you to control the height you'd like it sit at.

I show an example of this here - in the above photo. Scrap Dots doesn't dry instantly so it gives you time to play around with it.

Here I am adhering the rest of the floral elements.

In this photo you can see the different height & dimension created by using different amounts of scrap dots & varied amounts of pressure.

I thought I'd also show you on a scrap piece of paper what it actually looks like squeezing out varied amounts of the Liquid Scrap Dots.

Hopefully in this photo you can see the 3 circles are placed down at varied heights.

Quarter Stash Book with Tamiko

Hey hey good people, Tamiko here.. ::waves::  I like making books and sometimes I forget how much.  It's awesome to figure out the mechanicals to simple and unique books.  I think one day I might even get some funds together to take book making classes of some sort.  I actually was introduced to Helmar after watching someone create an album with Helmar products.  To me a handmade book is one of the most personal things you can give a person.  I think its nice to know that there is a plethora of ideas you can gift a man or woman in the form of a book.. Check out this lil project, inspired by the work of book artist and printmaker Annwyn Dean.

Supplies needed:

Cards stock

Patterned Paper

Scissors

Pencil

Button and Twine

Maxi Moon Cute Cacti Stamp Set

Archival Ink Pad

 

I began by taking cardstock and tracing a CD to make the desired circle size. You dont have to use a CD, but the general idea is to be able to make even circles. I the split the circles in halves and folded into quarters. The outermost edge of the right quarter then need to be folded inward towards the center fold. Repeat this on each of the half circles.  You decide how many pages you want the book to be..  (smile) Place the PVA glue on the right outer flap on the back side.  I hope my photos make sense!

 

Attach the right end to the left quarter of the following page until you have connected all the pages of the body of the book. Finally cut a half circle slightly larger then the pages. Split the half in quarters and adhere them as cover pages for the book.  If given the choice to add the twine, I may have chose a different way to belt the book.  This works.. I just don't like it. ::hey it happens.. smiles and shrugs::  I would still encourage you to use Helmar 450 Quick Dry ,  especially when attaching embellishments to the outer covers. 

 

Then just embellish the book with paper fragments and stamped images or whatever you like. I just love this recently acquired set from Rubber Moon.

They perfectly snug in my small book. I also added strips of patterned paper to the pages.

Fringed Tag by Rachel Lowe:

Hello Helmar fans! Today I have a quick and easy gift tag with a twist to create.

Paper fringes are certainly  on trend currently and this one you can make in about 20 minutes.

Firstly you will need four different coloured or patterned paper. I cut another one in white card stock and this will be the base tag (total 5 tags).

Cut five tags in your preferred size. I have cut my tags at 4x 2.5 inches.

 

Now cut a 1/4 of an inch off the first patterned/coloured tag, then 1/2 an inch off the second, 3/4 inch off the third and an inch of the fourth. 

Now the fun part to create your fringe. Use a sharp pair if scissors and cut as below in an even manner to each tag.

You need to also snip and create a fringe on the base white tag. Now using Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive glue starting from the longest tag to the shortest only adhering the top of the tag not the fringe. When attaching layers, a quick dry glue is perfect as the layers do not move as you add more layers.

Now to decorate your tag and add some twine.

Simple but oh so pretty!  And this is why I keep a stash, so I have pretty paper and embellishments on hand to make handmade paper crafts such as these.

Beach Themed Draws...

 I have had this set of draws for a while. I had them painted in Gesso so I used some of the Helmar Tacky Craft glue to glue it together. I have used this before on these wooden projects and it always works terrific and holds so well.

• Wooden set of draws (I got this one from Kaisercraft)
• Decoart Americana acrylic paints and Gesso
• Music paper
• TCW Stencil
• Stamp
• Sponge and paint brushes 
• Sandpaper
• String
• Wooden embellishment
• Stamp
• Quote

 

I painted all the pieces with Gesso to seal it all.

I then ran a line of Helmar Tacky Craft Glue around all the back edges.

I set some heavy books and my container of journals on it and let it dry.

 

Using some Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste I tore up some music papers and glued them here and there on all the sides, top and back. Covering the joining slots.

I then painted it trying to leave a bit of the music paper showing in spots. Waited for it to dry and sanded the edges and some of the painted surfaces. I wanted it to look a bit distressed. Then using a TCW stencil I added some little spot details with a make up sponge in some white paint.

To do the draws I added some music paper with some of the Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste and then painted it. Folded the draws up and then painted in the crevices, making sure none of the cardboard was showing. 

Then I grabbed the Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive  and glued the edges together. Just holding them until they stuck this takes just a few seconds.

I like to add a quote that I type up on my typewriter to my wooden projects. This ended up on the side. I added it using the Helmar Tacky Craft Glue.

I was looking for something to add at the top on the heart and found some thongs (flip flops) and the word chill. Thought it kind of looked beachy my project, so thought that will be perfect. I have a beach house stamp, so I stamped that on some cardstock with watercolour paint. I backed it with a bit of blue card stock that had been painted using my Gelli plate. It matched so thought that looked ok. I painted the word to match and added a piece of Hessian under the word chill to make it stand out a bit more from the background. Added some string that I tied into knots. To adhere this around the beach houses, I used the Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive in dots under the knots to stick it down, it worked really well.  

This was such a fun project to do and now I have a handy little set of draws to store some craft items away.

 It is time to send those thank you notes! So grab some pattern paper, some Rinea Paper,  your favorite Helmar 450 and get to work!

I cut the  Rinea paper using dies and this works beautifully. Doesn't this Marigold Starstruck add such elegance to the flowers!

 

I finished the card by curling pieces around the end of a brush to create fun spirals!

Travellers Notebook - TV Favs 2017 by Rachel Lowe:

Hello everyone Rachel here!

Travellers Notebooks are very popular in the scrapbooking world right now and finally I have jumped on board. I like that you can document 'life' in a quick and easy way whilst still be able to be creative about the process. I have now let my monthly Project Life go for Travellers Notebooks are also great if you are time poor.

This spread is all about our favourite TV shows of 2017.

I only needed one adhesive for this spread and that is the fabulous for general paper crafting, Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.

 

On the left page I cut a paper strip to fit my TN and then added a paper piece to the bottom but only adhering three sides leaving the top open. This created a pocket so I could add photos of our favourite TV show. If you want to machine sew on your paper as I have ensure you sew before for adhere. I then add some relevant phrases from my stash (this being Amy Tangerine Oh Happy Day left over journal cards and embellishments).

I then typed my journalling to the centre of my second page paper piece. This is where I documented our favourite TV shows of 2017. I add a coordinating paper to tie in with the first page.

I have used some border strips from 12x12 papers to pretty up my pages. I always keep border strip if they are patterned as they make a good substitute for wash tape and its a lot cheaper! Here you will note I used the cloud and heart border strips.

Now to create my paper TV I used a cut file from the Silhouette Design store and add a journal card in my screen and then enamel dots to the side as my TV nobs. You could easily find a picture on the net and trace/cut your own TV if you do not have a cut file machine.

Sisters

Hi its Bridget here again.  February is the month of love and there is no greater love than from your sister.  So to celebrate this I have chosen to scrapbook my two little girls sharing a special moment together.

Here is my page.

First thing i did was to add water colour to my page.

 

After that had dried I added some stamping to give the background a bit of texture and interest  Then using some texture paste and a stencil added some butterfly's.  While this is still wet I added some embossing powder and with a heat gun, this will give the butterfly some pretty texture.

 

 

I decided to add some doilys. Because these will be close to my photo I used Helmar's Acid Free Glue. I know my photo will be safe for years to come.

 

I stuck with the same glue with all my other embellies, 

Because I was not adding a border to my photo, to make my photo stand out from the page I used Helmar scrapdots.

I love how scrapdots give height to your photo.

Love of Music

Our family has a real love of music! Every family member either sings or plays an instrument, or both! And our appreciation for music ranges from elegant instrumentals to classic rock to reggae to pop. I wanted to make a home decor piece that was a nod to our love of music and was a seasonal item I could display in my home. (When we moved cross country almost two years ago I got rid of most of my seasonal decor, so I’m crafting and replacing things!)

Here’s the lineup of the supplies I started with: Some of my favorite Helmar products including Craft and Hobby PVA Glue, Super Strength PVA Wood Glue, and Krystal Kote Gloss Varnish. I also had some sheet music, wooden box frame and heart, craft paint, sponge brushes, sandpaper, and some disposable dishware.

First step was to sand the rough edges on the heart and frame using a few grits of sandpaper. I also sanded away some markings on the wood.

Next I made some decoupage medium by mixing just a little bit of water with some of the Craft and Hobby PVA Glue. I mixed it with a plastic spoon in a disposable cup. Once it was mixed very well, I used a sponge brush to put a thin layer on one side of the wooden heart cut out.

Next, I smoothed down a piece of music paper and pressed firmly to remove any bubbles and help the paper stay flat. I was able to press the edges and see exactly where the heart shape was underneath. After that was dry, I took a piece of the sandpaper and gently sanded the edge of the heart and it effectively cuts the heart out of the paper, perfectly shaped and sized!

I added another layer of my decoupage medium on top of the music paper to smooth down any fibers on the edge and give it a bit of a protective layer on the paper.

I set the heart aside to dry again and started painting the wooden box frame a pretty cherry red color. A little tip: I set the frame on top of an upside down paper plate to let me get all the way to the edge of the frame without painting on the table top! The first layer was a bit streaky, but I know that will be improved with a second coat of paint.

While that first coat dries on the frame, I started painting the bare edge of the heart a pretty candy pink.  I covered the whole way around and to the edge of the music paper.

A second coat on both and this time with the pink on the heart, I sort of dry brushed just a tiny bit onto the front of the music paper all the way around. That second coat on both pieces really makes it look nice! It’s important to let both pieces dry very well. I suggest waiting overnight.

Now that everything is very dry, I used my Super Strength PVA Wood Glue and put a thin layer on the back of the heart. I then positioned it in the box frame and weighted it down to dry. Yes, you can laugh at my weighting method .  ;)

The final step is to spray the whole project with Krystal Kote Glossy Varnish. This both protects the project and brings the paint to a vibrant luster instead of the dull craft paint finish.

This project was fairly easy and fast, though there was quite a bit of drying time. I think it’s a project that any crafter can tackle with ease!

Fluffy Whipped Glitter Unicorn Slime

Hi all Erin Reed here today and I bring to you a fun kids craft you can make with Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA glue - SLIME!!!  Something about slime makes my kids happy and smile for hours.  They play with it to no end and it is it the best thing ever.  My issue with some of the slime out there is it sticks to everything, so you have to check out this fluffy whipped recipe using the Craft & Hobby PVA Glue from Helmar as it does not stick!!!!

 

In this video you can learn how to make this fun slime, glitter optional!

 

My daughter had a blast with this slime, and she added extra extra extra glitter to hers, got to have glitter when making unicorn slime!!

You can also add color to the slime, just do it before you add in the borax water solution, but we decided to keep the slime white and just add glitter for a fun color.  What color would you make your slime?
