Halloween themed Headbands by Farrel Tailor (28th Sept)

Hi Everyone, today I am sharing my last DT post for Helmar.... I can't believe how fast the last 6 months have gone!!! I would like to say a huge thank you to Helmar for having me on their amazing team, I have enjoyed every minute of it.

For my last project I thought I would create some Halloween themed headbands. I am teaching at a retreat in 3 weeks and our theme is Halloween so what better way to showcase Helmar's awesome projects than to create these little beauties!!! 

So to begin I cut out 2 sizes of circles using my sizzix circle nesting dies in my Big Shots machine. Using the larger circle, I cut to the center of the circle.

Then I rolled the circle till it made a cone shape and adhered it to the smaller circle using Helmar Super Tac Glue. I love this adhesive, it dries clear and is super quick drying.

For the ribbon and tulle I used Helmar Fabric Glue around the bottom of the cone

I decided to add some stars to the hat (mental note - do this before you make the hat lol) So I used TCW2163 Twinkle stencil with TCW9041 Platinum Modeling Paste. Once dry, I then adhered my flowers, feathers and chipboard using Helmar 450 adhesive.

To adhere the hat to the head band, I used a hot glue gun. And here are the finished projects. My boys were my models for the headbands and they loved them. I had to fight them to get them off!!!! lol

Vintage themed mini tags...

Hi all, Vicki-Ann here today and I have been having some fun making some vintage style mini tags. I have an awesome tag punch that I thought needed some use. It is a fun way to use up some of my scrap papers.

What you will need...

• Helmar Premium Craft Glue
• Helmar liquid scrap dots
• Tag punch, mine is a Creative Memories one
• Hole reinforcements or my punch is from We R Memory Keepers
• Book paper
• Coffee stained card stock
• Writing card stock
• Distress ink and blending tool
• Fussy cut butterflies 
• Cheese cloth
• Bulb clip and charms

So first I cut out some tags from some of my Coffee stained papers in card stock. Then tore up some book papers and some card stock with some writing on. I also used a copy of one of my grandmothers recipes.  Using a blending tool and some vintage distress ink. I blended around the tag and the torn edges of the card stock. I had some cheese cloth so I cut some of that off and dirtied it up a bit with the blending tool and ink. Then I fussy cut a few butterflies. I also used my hole reinforcement punch and punched some book papers to pop over the hole.

 

Now I have all my pieces ready it is time to get the Helmar Premium Craft Glue out. This glue is terrific. It glues everything down so well, dries so quickly but gives you enough time to move it or straighten it without leaving a mess of too much glue. It does not buckle the paper and if you get it some in a place you do not want it. You can just gently rub it and it will come off. I would have to say it is my favourite.

 I distressed the edges of the book paper that I cut to fit the tag and tore some of the writing paper. Then using the Helmar Premium Craft Glue and the card stock distressed tag. I added my layers. First the book paper then the torn written paper. Then the cheese cloth layer on top of that.

I popped my focal image of the fussycut butterfly on top of the cheese cloth.  I thought the tiny piece of cheesecloth just gave it a bit more added texture.Under a couple of the butterflies, to give them a bit of added dimension. I added a little blob (technical term) of Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots. I used some of the Helmar premium craft glue to add my hole reinforcement.

Then I added a bulb clip through the hole and attached a bee and a scissor charm. 

These are a great tiny addition to planners and travelers notebooks. Add them in pockets or attach with a brad. Or even just as a little gift to add a smile to someone’s day.

 

Unicorn Pot plant

Hi everyone! It's Bridget here.  Spring has sprung and its time to get into the garden.

School holidays are approaching here in Australia, so I wanted to share with you a craft that will help encourage your children to get out there and enjoy nature. 

Gardening teaches our children many things including responsibility, they learn they have to take care of the plants so they survive. (lets see if they do)

So here is a craft that encourages that and also incorporates my daughters love of unicorns.

What you need:

A pot (I got these from kmart)

Foam (I used foamtastic from Riot)

A sharpie

Jewels (Kmart)

Flowers (Kmart and D-lish scrapbooking)

A pot plant (my girls choose their own at flower power)

Helmars Foam Glue

Helmars Premium Craft Glue

Helmars 450 Quick Dry Adhesive

First step on the back of the foam draw your ear and unicorn horn shapes, then cut them out.

Next using Helmars foam glue, glue the pink (inner ear) onto the white and let dry.

To attach the unicorn ears and horn to the pot we used Helmars 450 quick dry glue.

We drew some eyes on with a Sharpie, and using Helmar's Pemium Craft Glue, attached lots of flowers and jewels.

After letting that dry, all that was needed to do was to pop a plant in.  My girls love their unicorn pot plants and hopefully they will take some responsibility in looking after it.

I had a great time creating with my girls and shopping for some pretty plants.  I hope you give it a go these school holidays.  Until next time Happy Crafting.

 

Artist Trading Coins with Tamiko

Hey hey good people Tamiko here!  I am an avid Instagram user!  I have truly enjoyed seeing artist trading coins, which is a very similar to the artist trading cards (ATCs), but circular!! The concept is new to me! The inspiration is endless!  If you already make ATCs you know you can use pretty much anything you like a substrate/base for it and well the same applies to artist trading coins!!  Check these out!!

 

Supplies needed:

• Helmar's Super Tac Eva Glue 
• box/chipboard/stiffpaper 
• gelli prints or scrap papers
• images
• embellishments
• Scissors
• Circle stencil/compass/punch or jar
• pencil

 

Luckily I had recently purchased stencil to create circles.  I find that is the easiest way for me. So I drew circles with the stencil and pencils.  I chose to create 12, although I am sure I cut out much more then that! (smile) I then used Super Tac glue to the circles and adhered them to patterned papers or gelli printed papers from my stash. 

 

Once they were all dry I again cut circles and used the Super Tac Glue to add embellishments and text! Voila!! I think they came out very cute for my first time, don't you!!  Make some and let's trade!!! (smile)

Grungy Mixed Media Card with Robyn

Hello! It’s Robyn Wood with you today sharing a grungy, mixed media card I’ve made using Helmar adhesive.

I find liquid adhesives are best for this type of card as the layers can get quite wonky and uneven after inking and distressing and they need to be stuck down really well.

I enjoy layering up different pieces to give some interest to a card, so started by altering a pair of chipboard brackets using a layer of crackle paste.

Once the pieces were dry, I coloured them with Gelatos and brushed over with a touch of mica powder. The Gelatos accentuated the cracks beautifully.

Next I trimmed some pieces of cardstock and patterned paper to form the card base. A trio of images was stamped in a stack on a pale layer using black, permanent ink. I needed the ink to be permanent so it didn't smudge when the pieces were spattered with watery ink.

A touch of grunge was achieved through inking, distressing and stencilling. I often use Distress Oxide inks to ink and stencil as the colour has a beautiful opacity that is different to the original Distress Inks.

You might notice the random spatter effect? That was also done using Distress Oxide inks by inking a small area of a non-stick craft mat and picking up the ink with a wet paint brush to spatter over the elements.

I also stamped and embossed a greeting using Distress Oxide inks – they are nice & juicy so catch embossing powder well. A part of the image was coloured using the mica powder for added effect.

The card layers came together easily with Helmar Tacky Craft Glue. I like the extra working time this glue gives as it doesn’t set super-fast – makes it easy to get the placement of my elements exactly right.

Frosty the Snowman

 My theme today is music and I have a fun project using song lyrics! I know what you are thinking - it is way to early to start thinking of winter and the holidays. But, it will be here before you know it! 

Here is my project

 

I created a mixed media canvas. My supplies include a canvas, paint, tissue paper, pattern paper, song lyrics printed on copy paper and my Helmar Craft and Hobby Glue.  This is the perfect all purpose glue for paper crafting!

 

The background is created by sponging on various blue acrylic paints and splattered with white. 

Once the background was dry, I applied layers of tissue paper. While wet I sprinkled with glitter.

It is now time to create Frosty and the trees. I cut circles out of the lyrics to form the snowman. I added a hat and scarf. The trees are simple triangles cut from different pattern papers. Everything was glued with the Craft and Hobby Glue. Snowflakes made from tissue paper and the  lyrics were also scattered and glued down. Lastly I added the title and lyrics. I used a watercolor pencil to add detailing around the snowman and trees. 

 

Once the canvas was completely dried, I sprayed it with Crystal Kote Gloss Finish

 

This seals the canvas and protects it from dust and fading. Here is a close up of the finished canvas. This will be a wonderful addition to my winter decor!

Upcycled Gift Bag by Amylove

Hello everyone! Amylove here to share my love of altering bags. Helmar Fabric Glue

makes it so easy! I was given a gift in this lovely burlap bag. It was certainly pretty just as it was.....but I just couldn't help myself and I embellished it!

What you will need:

a bag

laces and embellishments

Helmar Fabric Glue

I used Helmar Fabric Glue to add three crochet trims to dangle off of the bottom of the bag.

I added this trim to the top just under the drawstring. Helmar Fabric Glue dries flexible so when the drawstring is pulled tight, the lace will have a beautiful gather. 

I finished off the bag by adding a trim to the front pocket and adding this adorable flower.

A pretty bag made prettier!

 

Cheshire Cat Ears

I am so excited to share this project with you, it is a bit different to my usual projects but a lot of fun. 

When I saw that FraserPop 2.0 was having a Mad Hatter's Tea Party I was inspired to do something I have always wanted to do, create a Alice In Wonderland inspired costume, as I am a novice I decided to see if I could get a dress that would suit converting into a costume so the colour I found was perfect for a Cheshire Cat costume so I started planning out what I needed to do and knew I needed to make some ears.

I watched and read a few tutorials so the way I created them was what stuck in my head from the tutorials.
I used the template that is in the description of this tutorial by Ember Tay to cut my pink felt and purple fur fabric, when cutting the fur I did not use scissors as I didn't want to cut the fur just the backing of the fur.  So make sure the fur fabric has the right side facing down and go gently with a craft knife so you just cut the backing and not the fur, you get a nicer result with the fur this way.  I can't remember where I got this advice from but it was great advice, so thank you to those who share tips :)

I used Helmar Fabric Glue to adhere the felt to the fur fabric.  I lined the middle point of the felt up with the middle point of the fur and stuck it down.

Then I ran a line of Helmar Fabric Glue down the side of the felt and folded the fur over on each side.  Next trim off the overhang of the fabric.

  

Then I ran a line of Helmar Fabric Glue on one half of the bottom of the ear and glued the 2 side together.  They are already looking like ears, now it is time to add clips.

  

Once the ears were dry I grabbed my hair clips and opened them so I wouldn't glue them closed.  I used some Helmar Quick Dry 450 Glue on the top part of the clip and adhered it to my ear with the narrow end of the clip (open end) going to the back of the ear as this is where it is narrowest.  The clip helps the ear shape complete itself.

They turned out so cute and being made with Helmar glues I know they will last.  So when you are in need of making something for a costume why not try some Helmar glues, they get fantastic results that hold up to cosplay really well.

This would have to be one of my favourite photos from my daughter's wedding

her, dancing with her dad 

She was so emotional. 

She hates to be the centre of attention but I think a little of that emotion was the fact that this was it, she was no longer our little girl.

I started with a frame that didn't have a back to it so I found a canvas that fitted and used Super-Tac Glue to adhere the two together.

I then painted the frame and canvas with Colour Blast Heavy White Gesso .

 

 

I then used a Colour Blast stencil which aren't on the website yet and some Colour Paste Snow White. 

I love the shimmer the paste has it's so pretty and it's subtle enough for this wedding photo because want make sure that stays the focus.

 

 

 

I used the Crystal Kote Gloss Varnish Spray over the frame and canvas after using some rub-ons on the edge of the frame. 

I wanted the frame to have a nice shine to it and the gesso is matte (unfortunately the shine doesn't show up that good in the photos). 

 

 

 

I used the Fabric Glue on the scalloped tulle ribbon (this colour matched the bridesmaids skirts and the flowers they had in their hair and bouquet). 

I also used it on the flower mum made out of the tulle that I stuck in the middle of the bow.

 

 

 

I used the Fabric Glue to adhere the crocheted flowers to the canvas.

 

 

 

Then used the Super-Tac Glue to glue the beads onto the centres of the flowers.

 

 

I used the Super-Tac Glue to stick my very old thickers onto the canvas (I knew if I kept them they'd come in handy one day and this font is so perfect for this project).

 

 

 

 

The Premium Craft Glue I used to stick some tulle to the canvas then the cardboard to the canvas.

 

 

I always use the Acid Free Glue to adhere my photos down to the other side of the cardboard.

That way I know my photos are safe for a very long time.

Mixed Media Father's Day Tags by Farrel Tailor (5th Sept)

Hello fellow Helmar lovers!!!

Farrel here and today I get  to share with you all 2 mixed media tags I created with the theme of Men in mind. I know Father's Day has already been and gone but you can do this tags also for birthdays.

To start with the tags I used Distress Oxide Ink in Tea Dye and stamped it on my craft mat. Then sprayed some water and smooshed my tag through the ink.

I used the same technique using Frayed Burlap making sure I dried between each colour.

I then sprayed a coat of Helmar Crystal Kote Fixative Spray to seal those colours and then added Crushed Olive Distress Oxide ink. This spray stops the colours from turning into a muddy mess.

I used the same technique again with Peeled Paint Oxide Ink and used my heat gun to dry.

Then inked around the edges using Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink.

Next I added some stamping using black archival ink and some Tim Holtz stamps.

I wanted to add some texture so I stamped this Darkroom Door stamp onto some calico and frayed the edges.

Then used Helmar Fabric Glue to adhere it to the tag.

To add some height I used Helmar Scrap Dots adhesive to the back of my gentleman and placed them onto my tag.

Then to finish the tag off I stamped some letters onto some white cardstock and used Stormy Sky and Vintage Photo Distress Oxides. Then adhered them to the tag using Helmar Premium Craft Glue.
