If you are like me, then not only are you buying presents but you are wrapping them as well. I hate when I get to the end of the roll and I have the long tube to throw away. Instead of tossing it, let's use it!
We are going to use that tube ( or a toilet paper or paper towel tube) to make cute ornaments!
I gathered my supplies. In addition to the paper tube, I have paint, tissue paper, batting, and, of course, my
Helmar 450. This quick drying, clear adhesive is perfect for craft projects like this one! You will also need glitter and small embellishments - buttons, gems, etc.
To begin - cut a series of strips from the tube. These will be molded into shapes for Santa and the snowflakes.
Santa is simply a series of shapes glued together. Paint 1 piece red and 3 pieces white.
Shape the red piece into a hat which will be filled with red tissue paper. Grab some tissue paper and scrunch until you get it to fit into the hat. Once you are happy with the size and shape, run a bead of 450 on the inside and put the tissue paper back in. Shape a white piece into a circle which will be his face. Glue to bottom of hat. Make a moon shape and adhere to the face. Next come his whiskers. Shape the tube into an upside down heart. Fill with batting as we did with the hat. Secure where it touches the face. Apply more glue to the outside of his face and add batting for hair. A pipe cleaner is perfect for the brim on his hat and a pom pom. I also gave him a red cherry nose. Add a string or ribbon for hanging.
For the snowflake, cut 15 strips and paint gold. Glue 5 ovals together to make a star. Fold the rest of the strips in half and adhere between the points of the star. Continue until you have it filled in.
I ran a bead of 450 along the outer edges and dipped it in crystal flakes. A painted chipboard snowflake with a layer of glitter was adhered to the center. Add a piece of yarn for hanging.
Here is a close up of each one. Don't they look cute! And check out the sparkle on the snowflake! What a fun project for the entire family. You could make other shapes as well - a snowman, hearts, and more. Other embellishments can be added or they can be personalized.
So instead of throwing out those wrapping paper tubes , turn them into ornaments!! Thank you for joining me this holiday season!
