Hello! Its Bridget here, today I would like to share with you a project I created for Earth Day.
We have been celebrating Earth day since the 1970s! It is a day where we can increase our awareness on our environment, where we can learn what we are doing (or not doing) to protect our planet now and for future generations.
Recently there was a party at my house and someone brought a lot of plastic spoons. Rather than them ending up in landfill I washed and reused them to make this spoon mirror. Slowly a better alternative to plastic cutlery is becoming more available, so hopefully less plastic will end up in our landfills.
To make this spoon mirror you will need:
Helmars 450 Quick Dry Adhesive
Cardboard
small round mirror
Plastic spoons ( roughly 80)
Spray paint
Cut a circle out of your cardboard (I used cardboard from a old beer carton). Lay you circle mirror in the center and trace around it.
Cut the plastic spoons at the base of the handle. My children loved using the handles in their craft.
Starting on the outside edge, using Helmar's 450 Quick Dry Adhesive glue the spoons around the edge of the circle so they over hang just slightly. Continue gluing util you reach your inner circle. You want the spoons to slightly go over the line you drew, so the mirror can sit on them.
Now to spray paint! In a well ventilated area in a even back and froth motion apply 2 or more light coats. Make sure you apply to the cardboard and to the back of the plastic spoons.
After the paint has dried, use Helmar's 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to attach your mirror. Once again here is my spoon mirror.
I would love to see the what crafts you have created re using items that would have otherwise ended up in our land fills. So please post below. Until next time Happy Earth Day and Happy Crafting!
