Mother's Day Photo Folio

Hello crafty friends!! I'm so happy and excited to be back for another term with this amazing company! My project for this month I had actually made something since the beginning of the month but I had forgotten to take pics of the process!! I was so upset but I will be making another one of the same for myself as the one I had made I gave to my sister. But the project I bring to you all today is something just as special. I made this from a newly favorite YouTuber from Spain! It is something that can be made for a swap, any occasion, but I thought since its almost Mother's Day that it would make a very special gift . 

 

                                      

For this project I thought I'd use the Helmar Premium Craft Glue since I was not only adhering paper but lace but Prima flower, small silk ribbon bows and more.  This is why I like using this adhesive because you only need this to do one project! This glue goes a very long way when thinly applied as shown below in my photos where I used this glue.

 

                                                                                         


The paper I used for this was Portrait of a Lady from Graphic 45 as well as the sticker sheet. I used a textured colored card stock from We R Memory Keepers 12x12 Colored Variety Pack.  It measures 6 x 6 1/4 so it can be easily mailed in a bubble mailer. 

This photo folio has (5) 4x6 photo mats in the center. I had also added a small pocket with some tags from the collection. On the 2 sides that open I also added a small pocket on each side with additional tags. 

                  
                                                                                                     



                            
The tutorial I used was very simple although I did do some different measurements on the photo mats and I also made additional changes . I will be making this during a "Live on YouTube " on Wednesday May 1st @  11am MST on my YouTube Channel so I hope you all will be able to join me, if you miss it, I hope you are able to see it when you can and give this project a try. I think its a super cute personalized photo folio for mother's , grandmother's, etc.  Show that special lady in your life how special she is.

Altered Book Art Journal with Tamiko

Hey folks Tamiko here! First and foremost I want to welcome the newest members of the Helmar Creative Team!!  Aren't they are so marvelous??  I'm truly looking forward to seeing what they create!  On to this week's project, which was influenced greatly by my friend Julie Jordan Scott aka the Creative Life Midwife. I became familiar with her through her Periscope, writing workshops and her instagram post. We also appear weekly on all day artblock with Lil Debs Creative Crew, where we live stream on Periscope.tv  Julie doesn't think she's visual artist, but she puts in the work and practice and creates daily.  That's what makes an artist to me!! Monthly, Julie creates these fabulous glue books. I've watched her do them more then once and each one is more unique then the last.  I was indeed inspired to create my own. It will probably be mailed out as a gift of some sort.  Check it out.. ::smiles::

 

Supplies needed:

Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste

Helmar Acid Free Glue

Collage paper scraps

Glue brush

Scissors

A book

Canvas material

Black chalkboard paint

White gel pen

I first found the size book that I wanted to work with. I removed some pages, because Julie's says we should leave room for the bulky pages we may create. I didn't remove too many because I thought maybe the person who the book is for would like to have some the extra pages to also create some ephemera to use at a later time.  With my colored scrappings that I am using for collage, I wanted you to know I got them from the Art Journaling Magazine.

 

I took 1 sheet of copy paper and I collaged the magazine fodder to the page with Helmar Decoupage and Craft Paste. I added another layer of decoupage paste to sheet and allowed it time to dry.  I had so many left.. I also created the base of an art journal page. Tee Hee.. a 2 for.  

 

 

While the page was drying,  I began to prep the outer covering for the book I chose to use.  I slathered Helmar's Acid Free glue all over the outer cover of the book and used a brush to push the glue around.  I then cut the collage page in half. Once that was done, it was then adhered to the covers of the book. I cut any overages off. I chose to reinforce the spine with some adhesive canvas that I also added glue to.  I won't take the chance that the canvas' original  adhesive is strong enough.

 

I will be sure and add some Helmar Acid Free to the spine and outer covers where the canvas overlaps the covers. I then took a bone folder and I burnished it.  Allowed everything to dry and place heavy duty clip on the book to hold everything in place.  Then I added a lil more art with chalkboard paint and gel pens and a new art journal was born!!!

Spidey Mask Pillowcase

Hi Helmar fans.  Raelene with you today sharing a quick gift idea with you.

My 21 year old daughter loves Spiderman so I wanted to make her a Spiderman pillowcase or cushion cover as a gift.  I thought I would try using the fabric markers I have in my stash to draw a web on a red pillowcase and using Helmar glue to add felt in the shape of the eyes of the mask onto it.

You will need:
A red pillowcase or cushion cover
Lead pencil
Black Fabric Marker
Black felt
White felt
Helmar Fabric Glue
A scrap of foam core board or cardboard

Prewash your pillowcase for best results with the fabric marker.

Place the foam core board or cardboard inside the pillowcase.

Draw the web on the pillowcase with a lead pencil first, making sure your web centre is fairly close to the centre of the pillowcase. The long lines I used a ruler but wanted a more natural look for the curved lines between them so just free-handed them and embraced the wobbles.
Then use the Fabric Marker to get nice black lines, you may need to go over your lines twice, just take your time the second time.

Cut the eye shapes out of the felt.
Glue the black eye shape to the pillowcase with Helmar Fabric Glue.
Make sure you get good coverage, if you need to once it is stuck down just add a little glue in around the edge to get it down all the way.
Glue the white shape to the black with Helmar Fabric Glue.

How awesome does my spidey mask pillow look? 

Using Helmar Fabric Glue made this such a quick and easy project.  Now I am thinking about other cushion cover and pillowcase ideas.  What sort of design would you like to create with Helmar Fabric Glue?

 

 

 

 

 

Recycled T-Shirts: Two Fabric Projects

Hello. Tina here.  I had the grand idea to make a headband for me and a collar for my dog, Dugan, to wear in the MS Walk.  The idea came early, yet the time to make it did not. Besides, I didn't have the energy to get out my gigantic sewing machine. Dum dat ta dum...Helmar Fabric Glue to the rescue!

Start with an old t-shirt. I used this one where the lettering was peeling.

Cut both sleeves off. Fold into the shape you need and trim edges evenly.

         

         

Fold right sides of the fabric together into a long skinny sheath.  Use Helmar Fabric Glue along the edges to create the tube.

 

                

   For the headband just fold a thin hem on the cut edge and glue down. I ironed a thin fold on the edge of my fabric. I soon learned that the glue adhered so quickly that there was no need to iron. All I had to do was  just fold and glue. EASY!

Turn the tube onto the right side using a safety pin.

Thanks to the fast grabbing Helmar fabric glue Dugan and I were fashion plates at the MS Walk.

Dugan was so tired, but still styling!

Paper Tole Card Creations

Hi guys and welcome to my first ever post for the Helmar Creative Team!

I am so excited to be able to share my creations and crafting adventure with you!

For my first post I have created a set of 4 paper tole cards using 2 of my most favourite Helmar Products the Helmar Scrap Dots and also the Helmar 450 Quick Drying Glue.

Okay - onto my cards!

First off, I have fussy cut out my paper tole images from my paper tole sheet. 

Next I have used a stylis with a largish ball head and a foam mat to shape my flowers by rolling the stylus on the back of the cut outs, a crafting tip is to use soap on the stylus which allows the ball to glide over the paper smoothly.

Next I have used the Scrap Dots to layer the paper tole pieces together, I like to squeeze out my Scrap Dots and then use a skewer to apply the glue to my pieces.

Next step was gathering some matching card stock, embossing folders and dies from my collection.

I have then gone on to add some lace trims and pearl strips to my card fronts using Helmar 450 Quick Drying Glue. 

Assemble the card fronts by attaching the paper tole flowers to the cards.

Lampshade Seasonal Do-Over

Hello there everyone and welcome to my first post for the Helmar Creative Team, 2019! With the cooler weather starting to arrive and my very tired looking living room lampshades needing either replacing or a 'do-over' I decided on the latter. A couple of years ago I had found a beautiful but small piece of upholstery fabric at the op-shop so I decided to use this, I had just enough!

 

What you will need:

Helmar Fabric Glue
Fabric
Scissors
Paper
Sewing machine and thread
Pins

Firstly, you need to make a pattern, my lampshades are four sided so I only needed to make a small pattern for one panel and cut four of them, including a 1 cm seam allowance for each joining edge. If you have a circular style lampshade just take a large piece of paper and clip/pin it to the main seam, roll or wrap the paper slowly over your lampshade pressing the outline as you go. I made my small pattern the same way just by using my fingers to press the outline of the shape.

 

Cut out your fabric.

As my lampshade has four panels I now place right sides together and sew them using a 1 cm seam and a small stitch.

 

 

Press or finger press your seams open once stitched. You can sew all seams together and slide over your frame but as I am covering over the top of the old fabric I am leaving one seam open and gluing mine to the existing lampshade using Helmar Fabric Glue.

 

 

Glue the first seam to the frame (seam allowances open) and continue around the frame (one seam at a time) until you get to the join then glue the other side and then tidy up any threads etc leaving the seam neat.

 

 

Remember: All seams will show through the lampshade once the light is turned on so it is important to get the seams in the right places and straight.

Once the side seam/s is dry you can glue the top and bottom to the lamp. Be sure the edges are straight and glue them carefully down, corners first moving towards the centre. You don't need to use a lot of glue as it sticks very well and you don't want any 'overflow' on your fabric.

Depending on the look and style of your lamp you can go on to add bindings or trimmings etc but I'm very pleased with the new look of my lamps and feel it will 'cosy' my living room area up nicely for the cooler weather.

An Art Journal Page with Robyn Wood

Hello! It’s Robyn Wood with you today sharing an abstract style art journal page featuring Helmar adhesives.

Helmar adhesives make it so easy to use collage and glued in elements in an art journal. The adhesives I have used dry quickly, stay flexible and best of all dry totally clear. I usually use Helmar Professional Acid Free Glue for bookbinding projects but for this month I decided to use it for collaging in my art journal.

I started my page over a page that had been randomly painted with some blue acrylic and adhered some torn dictionary pages over the top, leaving some areas clear. I used a rough bristle brush as I wanted the adhesive to leave little bits of texture over my page.

Once the adhesive was dry, I scribbled over the page with Gelatos in purples and blues and smooshed the colour around with my fingers. Gelatos are water soluble so if you find the colour not moving as you would like, wet your fingers a little or use a baby wipe to spread the colour.

Next I stamped a few flower heads using permanent stamping ink onto watercolour paper and coloured them with Gelatos using a wet paint brush. The heads were fussy cut, ready to adhere with Helmar Tacky Craft glue across the page. (I find the thickness of the watercolour paper needs a glue that is a little heavier.)

Add some stems to the flower heads using a green Gelato and then add a rough outline using black acrylic paint and a fine brush. Make the lines sketchy and loose! Once the paint is dry, add extra green Gelatos for the leaves – I find this easier as if I do the leaves first I tighten up and end up with yucky looking outlines.

Add a stamped quote and the page is complete.

Hi! My name is Jeanne C. Rodriguez , I live in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Many people know our town as the place where the 1^st Atomic Bomb was made. It’s a very nice place to raise a family. I have been married 14yrs but together almost 20yrs. I am a mother of 4 children and a 4yr. Old grandson, my older 2 of whom I had with my high school sweetheart, he was killed by a drunk driver. Although we weren’t together at that time, it changed my life. I fell into a deep depression where I could no longer work my job in Forensics. So 3yrs ago in April I needed some kind of outlet to deal with depression and other health issues. That’s how I found this world of crafting. Robyn Wood

Hello, my name is Robyn and I live in Brisbane, Australia. My husband and I have two adult sons and two whippet fur babies who think they are actually humans. I think I’ve always had something creative on the go since I was a kid, and despite pursuing science as a career, I’ve ended up being able to turn my creative skills into something that inspires and teaches others. When our sons were small, I discovered scrapbooking and card making and that has grown to a love of all things inky and painty. Many years ago, I decided to learn the difficult skill of drawing faces which has led me to a whole new world of creativity and I discovered that many of the techniques I’d been using for years with my stamps are part of a whole new genre that we now call ‘mixed media’. Easter Wreath by Suzanne Franin

 

Hey Everyone Suzanne here.

I made an Easter wreath of sorts for the Blog this month. 

I painted this timber heart with some Art Alchemy Metallique paints - Wild Fuchsia, Fresh Orange, Lime Peel and Pure Sunshine, they are such fresh happy colours. 

I used Memory Maze's Scribble Frame over the muslin. 

I used 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to adhere all the chipboard and plastic pieces onto the heart.

I used the Foam Glue to stick the bunny down after I cut him in half so he would sit right onto the heart, he's made of polystyrene so the foam glue is perfect.

I found these plastic eggs with a chicken in a nest but I didn't want to use the chicken easters about bunnies.

Fortnite Birthday Party DIYS with Helmar

Hi Helmar fans, Raelene with you today.

My son really wanted a Fortnite party for his 12^th Birthday and there wasn’t much available that suited so I did a few quick DIY’s for it, I wanted to share with you how I created some of them with Helmar.

Supply DROP container

You will need
Blue storage container
Yellow Cardstock to die cut the letters
Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive
Helmar Crystal Kote Matte Varnish

Cut 2 sets of the letters DROP from yellow cardstock in a sort of stencil font, I used my Silhouette Curio for this but you could do it by hand also.

Adhere the letters to each side of the container with Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.

Once Dry give the letters a coat of Helmar Krystal Kote Matte Varnish to protect them.

On the day of the party tie a Yellow balloon to the handles for the DROP to arrive. 


After the party the container becomes a fun storage item.

Chug Jugs

You will need
Cans of soft drink
Printable chug jug labels
Hemlar Premium Craft Glue

Once you have printed the labels and cut them out adhere them to your cans with Helmar Premium Craft Glue.

Med Kits

You will need
White Cardstock
Red paper, serviette or tissue paper scraps cut into inch wide strips
White paper scraps
Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA

Cut the box shape out of the white cardstock, I used my Silhouette Curio and a box template I found online and sized the file so I could get 2 to a A4 sheet.

Assemble the boxes with Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA
Adhere the red strip (I cut mine from a red serviette) around the box.
Adhere a white + (I just cut mine from scrap printer paper) to the top of the box on the red strip.
Before sealing the red strip I added a clear glitter high bounce ball and some lollies in it.

Mini brown paper pags for Fries

Brown Paper Bags
Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA
12 inch trimmer

Cut each paper bag in quarters.
Cut a half inch away from what will be the bottom for the bags from the top half.
Fold over the side and bottom and glue with Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA.

I bought some French Fries Origninal chips and put them in small ziploc bags to keep them fresh until the kids ate them, this went inside the mini brown paper bags.  And they were put on the table next to Burger Gummie lollies from Aldi and served with Pizza.
The kids loved that they were getting Fortnite food.

And finally I applied Shield Potion labels I found online to water bottles.  I filled the Drop Box with the Chug Jugs, Shield Potions and $1 water guns from The Reject Shop so it served as a supply drop and prompted a water fight.

I was hoping to convert a donky pinata to a Fortnite Llama pinata by removing the rainbow tissue papers and adhering the correct colours to it with Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA but I ran out of time so I just glued a printable version of the saddle bags to my rainbow donky with Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA the kids loved it but I couldn't get a good photo as the wind kept blowing it sideways.  It took a while to break due to the wind as the kids kept missing it so we ditched the blindfold due to the wind.

This all came together quickly and they kids loved it all.   Much fun was had and lots of happy memories on the day.
