Hello there, today I am going to continue on with my journal covers that I started in a previous Helmar blog post which you can find here.
What I used:
Helmar Crystal Kote Matte Varnish and the Helmar Crystal Kote Fixative Workable Matte, Helmar Craft and Hobby PVA Glue and Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.
Journal covers of your choice.
Acrylic paint, papers, scraps of lace, flowers, cardboard and anything else you would like to decorate with along with scissors, paint brush and ink.
Now that the covers have had plenty of time to cure, the first thing I am going to do is seal them. Not having used these products before I decided to try both the Helmar Crystal Kote Matte Varnish and the Helmar Crystal Kote Fixative Workable Matte to see how they worked. Following the instructions on the cans I sprayed them outside and allowed a day for them to dry thoroughly.
Once the covers were dry I used my Helmar Craft and Hobby PVA Glue to cover the reverse side with some decoupage paper.
At this stage I decided to attach some eyelets, my covers are 20cm long so I made my holes at 5cm and 15cm.
Now that is all done comes the fun part of gathering up all the pretty things to make a collage on the front cover. I also tore and painted some corrugated cardboard to add some texture and interest.
I then took a little time to arrange a collage of the materials I had gathered and played around until I was happy with the look of the layers, I also inked any papers and around the covers at this stage.
Using my Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive I glued everything into place. Where extra dimension was needed I used the scraps of corrugated cardboard as padding.
I just love how much dimension this gives.
This was such a fun project and is by no means complete. In a future blog post I will be putting the journal all together and adding any finishing touches :)
Thank you so much for stopping by today and I do hope you will give this little mixed media project a try.
Take care
