DIY Dice Tray

Today I have a quick DIY gift idea for the Board Game lover in your life or you could just make it for yourself. A cool Dice Tray, the boys made these Dice Trays for their Dad for Father's Day and I thought I would share how they created them so those of you needing gift ideas for the Board Game loving people in your life can get started creating gifts for Christmas if you wish.

The purpose of a Dice Tray is to not lose you dice under the couch and to reduce problematic rolls like the dice being cocked, etc. Keeping this in mind I kept my eye out for some nice deep frames that weren't too big so they didn't occupy too much table space. I would have loved to upcycle a old frame but after 15 months of scouring op-shops I had no luck so bought the frames from The Reject Shop and I am trying to come up with something to use the glass for or find a artist who will use it and give it to them.

So here is what you need.
Helmar Fabric Glue
Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive
Felt in your preferred colour
2mm and/or 3mm Craft Foam
Deep Photo Frames
Scissors
Pen or Pencil.

Remove the back piece from the frame, this is the part you will be working with. 
You won't need the glass or hanging hardware so save them for something else if you wish.

Place the back piece down on your foam and trace around it.  
Cut on the line. 
Do the same with your felt.

Run some Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive around the outer edge of your back piece and a squiggle in the middle and adhere your foam down.

 
Once your Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive is dry run some Helmar Fabric Glue around the edge of your foam and adhere down your felt.

Put your frame back together without the glass or hanging hardware and you are ready to role.

E made a mini Dice Tray with Green felt so our awesome DM has something a bit more compact when needed.  He had to test it out with his favourite D20 and he was pretty happy with his role.

Watercolor Journal with Tamiko

Hey hey good people, Tamiko here. I love making books and that's no lie! I don't know what I always intend to do with a book when I make it other then enjoying the process and possibly arting or journaling within them.. When I don't have a plan, I gift them away.  I don't always know what I plan to make, design wise when I sit to make a book and that seems to be the case yet again.  I do know its something I can see and visualize and and create as I see it, unlike some of my drawn art.  See some books calls for groovy papers and awesome adhesive.  I've been blessed to have both around me in abundance.  Check out what I created.

Supplies needed-

Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA Glue

Watercolor paper

Watercolors

Brushes

Pens and Pencils

Hole puncher

 

The sizes of the paper of course can vary from book to book based on the size that u want to make it. For myself and this book, I started out with 9x6 pieces of paper. I cut 3x6 piece off each of 8 pages for the book. Those smaller pieces I decided to make tabs with. I apologize in advance for not knowing proper book wording. Today's book is one I saw in my head, not one I saw and admired and recreated. Before we get into gluing the tabs on the pages, paint them. I'm using watercolor as my medium. As I create, I now I see the possibilities of some hand stitching I could have done, but hey let's get this prototype done right before add all those bells and whistles. (Smile) I cut the tables down to 1.5 x 3 and after the watercolor is dry, I fold the strip in fourths, the long way, and punch a hole for my metal ring. The two center quarters I glue close with Helmar's Craft & Hobby PVA Glue. I do that to all eight tabs. 

 

The last two tabs I adhered them to the individual pages again with Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA Glue. Two tabs per page. Be smarter then me and pay attention to your watercolor paper, so that the pages are facing the right direction. I prefer my rough sides all facing the same direction, whoops!! Haha! We learn, we learn!!

 

 I've never made this kind of book before and I only see ways to add more personalty to it. Like adding trim, ribbon and fibers to the rings and little dangle charm thingies that make us all smile! 

 

The only thing I wouldn't change is my adhesive. It's the one constant that just can't be altered. My journal is awfully cute to me and I think I'll drop it in the mail to a friend as a surprise soon!! Can you believe it's less than 100 days till Christmas? Time to make those extra special presents for those you love! What says that better than creating those gifts with Helmar Worldwide!!

Fabric Flowers with 450 Quick Dry Adhesive

To make these fabric flowers you will need: fabric remnants, needle and thread, tulle, scissors, and Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.

Cut a strip of fabric about 1/2 inch wide and 12-15 inches long. Just wing it! These are rustic, shabby chic flowers!

See how non-straight this strip is cut? And, yes non-straight is a technical crafting term. 

Using the needle and thread make a running stitch along one of the long edges of the fabric.

Pull the thread to ruffle the fabric.

Then roll the fabric on itself and glue. I used Helmar 450 Quick dry Adhesive.

My mom's old broach made the perfect center for the flower.

I made several different kinds using different fabric and laces. I am making the flowers to go on a tea bag dispenser that I will make soon. Trying to decide on the right size and style.

While this is my last post as a member of the design team, perhaps I can share the tea bag dispenser or another project with you as a guest designer. Of course, I plan to use Helmar Craft Glue and 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. The glues have definitely been a nice addition to my crafting experiments.

Hello Helmar fans and I am back again today to share with you a off the page project with you.

For my project I have used Art By Marlene stamps, papers and Prima Water colours as well my much loved Helmar 450 Glue and Liquid Scrap Dots for dimension. 

Method:

I have cut and coloured all my flowers and pot for this then using Helma 450 and Helmar Scrap Dots  I have started to layer the flowers onto my vase. The images below show how I have added my title using Helmar 450 ...

...and once adhered to my pot... 

The images below show the level of dimension achieved...

And as a little extra for you, I damaged my watercolor tin and found an excellent fix for it using Helmar's Silicone Adhesive Sealant that is a water proof silicone.

Golden Memories

Hello everyone, happy crafting.

Today I have got another up cycle project for you.

It is an MDF photo frame and I have used Gold Chevron Hessian to cover it. 

I have used Helmar Spray Adhesive and my favourite; 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.

To create this project I have covered the MDF frame in polyester wadding and then the printed hessian using the Spray Adhesive

I have secured all the edges on the back using the 450 glue and my clamp,clips to keep the tension while the glue dries. Not long at all!

Once dry I have added an oval peice of the patterned hession in the cut out purposely running the chevrons in the opposite direction to the front of the frame.

Next step is to add all my pretty Gold toned embellishments and finish off with a few black pearls just to help it POP!

Using Helmar Crystal Kote Sprays with Robyn Wood

Hello! It’s Robyn Wood with you today sharing a different project to my usual papercraft focussed ones. I started a photography degree earlier this year and have the opportunity to be involved in a student exhibition so decided to pop in an abstract canvas as well as a photograph. I’d like to share some of my process with you and how I used the Helmar Crystal Kote Fixative and Gloss Varnish to finish my canvas.

Abstract art is something I’ve been exploring the last few years, taking a lesson here and there from a variety of teachers while attempting to come up with my own process and style. I usually start with some lovely white space and cover it with scribbles of charcoal pencil.

Next ,I spritz the surface with a little water and start dropping acrylic ink here and there to create little puddles of colour. The black charcoal dissolves a little and creates a lovely range of tones. Some areas are ‘encouraged’ to flow in one way or another with the help of a brush.

I add a few crystals of rock salt to areas that are damp, the effect this creates when dry is magic. The plastic pieces are torn into manageable pieces and laid over the top of the puddles and the canvas is left flat until the whole surface is totally dry.

The end result when the plastic is lifted and salt brushed away is totally unpredictable but I love the effect. You could also achieve something similar using stencils and stamps.

Once my canvas was dry, I used white pastel and marked out large, uneven roughly circular shapes over parts of the surface that I particularly liked. The circles were the parts that would stay in the final piece, the rest would become background.

I gently went around the shapes with soft pastels in colours that would blend to become the background. I worked in thin layers so that I could easily get an idea of where the canvas was headed design wise.

Soft pastels create a bit of dust are mixable until fixed with a varnish. I used this property to paint out my background with white acrylic paint. The paint mixed with the soft pastel to give a range of softly coloured shades. I kept the canvas flat throughout the process so I didn’t lose any precious, coloured pastel dust. Once the background was complete, I sprayed the canvas with two coats of Helmar Crystal Kote Fixative and allowed it to dry.

Helmar Crystal Kote Fixative is brilliant for sealing surfaces while a work is in progress. The workable, matt nature can be worked on top of for further layers on a piece without having the layers beneath the spray be affected. As with all aerosols, read and follow the directions on the can and only spray in a well-ventilated area.

I then went over my canvas, fixing up any areas that needed a little extra colour, repeating the process above of adding a touch of soft pastel and painting over it with white acrylic paint.

Once the canvas was fully dry, I let it sit a couple of days for the acrylic paint to cure then sprayed it with two coats of Helmar Crystal Kote Gloss Varnish, allowing each coat to dry in between. Once fully dry, my canvas was ready to hang!

Supplies:

• Helmar Crystal Kote Fixative
• Helmar Crystal Kote Gloss Varnish
• Acrylic inks
• White acrylic paint
• Black charcoal
• Soft pastels
• Variety of plastic wrap, bubble wrap or stencils
• Spray bottle of water

Little Vintage Style Pedestals

Hello there, today I wanted to share a very simple project with you. As a crafter my desk is continually getting cluttered when I make things and although I do tidy up after each project I still find things get covered up and 'lost' during my creative time. I've decided to make some little pedestals so that I can lift up some items and place my hand on specific things when I need them.

What you will need:  Helmar Silicone Adhesive Sealant and at least one stand and one plate piece. 

I have a selection of old tarnished silver pieces collected from Op-shops over the past few years which are ideal for this project. Look for candle sticks, little dishes (china, silver or crystal) and plates goblets, wine glasses etc.

Firstly you will need to clean and dry your pieces and remove any parts that do not need to be adhered. I am using a small goblet and a butter dish, I have removed the glass insert and lid from the butter dish.

Using my Helmar Silicone Adhesive Sealant I am applying it to the base of my goblet. The top of the goblet is fluted and as I needed to have a flat service to join the pieces together, I decided to use the other end. Apply the Sealant liberally. I found 'dotting' it around the rim was the easiest.

Before replacing the cap on your sealant, be sure to squeeze a little out to get rid of any air in the tube, wipe it clean and then replace the cap.

 

Attach your pedestal base to the plate upside down being sure to press firmly allowing any excess sealant to squeeze out.  Leave for a few minutes and then wipe away any unwanted sealant.

Leave the pedestal to dry overnight before using. If you are using heavier pieces or glass I would probably leave them a few days before using. The thicker the silicone you applied the longer you may need to leave it before it fully cures. As always, remember to have good ventilation when using your strong glues and read all the instructions.

I hope this project will encourage you to use your Helmar Silicone Adhesive Sealant for projects you may not of thought of or realised it was suitable for. You can use this method for many other purposes, especially for Christmas displays and ornaments.

Shabby Chic Tag

Hi Crafty friends! I hope that you all are enjoying the last beautiful days of the summer and looking forward to a cool fall! I love pulling out my fall sweaters, warm boots, drinking some pumpkin spice lattes & making some apple and peach crisp.

Today’s project is this shabby chic tag . I used the beautiful “Sweet Christmas” from
Stamperia, the planner stamp set from Julie Nutting that included two off the small
Prima doll stamps that I hadn’t used yet.

 

 

 

 

I began by cutting some chipboard at 3.5 x 6.5, I measured and cut the design paper and adhered it. I then added some mint colored heavy weight textured cardstock on the back of my tag. I set the tag aside, stamped the small doll stamp first using black Archival ink, I then thought I’d try the process I had seen plenty of times on YouTube of where the image is then stamped using embossing ink and oh also used black embossing powder from Lindys Stamp gang. I used my heat gun to activate the ink with the embossing powder and dry it. 

I had also stamped the images on some smaller scrap paper so that I can use them to paper piece the outfit of the dolls. This another fun way besides coloring them. I did color the skin, hair & shoes using my spectrum noir alcohol markers. I then cut out the stamped design and added some of Helmar Dimensional Dots on it more dimension of course. This is just perfect for this type of project because sometimes other dimensional dots can be to wide. Once done with my stamped image, I started decorating my tag. First using some laces on bottom and on the side where
the doll will be. I used Helmar Craft Glue on this and then also adhered the doll as well as the flowers too.

 
I then needed to add a sentiment so I stamped this “ Thinking of you” along with a banner , then cut it and distressed it with my distress tool and adhered it to the space below an adorable bird that was on the design paper. I added a white pearl spray and a pink flat back just for added décor then added some cream colored seam binding thru the hole I had punched using my WeRMemory Keepers hole punch!

On the Boardwalk

Hello Helmar fans and welcome to my design team post. The theme I am doing today is summer, I have a real passion for the papers from Graphic 45 and felt that the On the Board Walk range would be just beautiful for my photo from Hobart.

My layout today uses 3 of the Helmar's family of products.

Method:
To start my layout base I have used the Helmar Scrap Dots to adhere my frame to my adhere my papers together.

I have then taken the paper I am using to layer my background and started adhering to my page using Helmar Acid Free Glue 

Then as I moved into layering my embellishments I used a mixture of Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots and Helmar Acid Free Glue which provide awesome depth and dimension you can see from the below butterfly image how thick and firm the Scrap Dots are.

When adding my photo I decided to see what the Helmar Foam Glue was like and have used that on my photo. I would say it is just as good as any of the Helmar products for using.

As I continued to layer my embellishments I have continued using the above glues.

When adding my title to my layout I have used the Helmar Acid Free Glue to adhere you can see from the below image how little you need to apply and it dries clear.
