Valentine Mailbox

Hello friends!  Debbie here today sharing a fun project for Valentines Day.  Valentines Day is one of my favorite days and I start creating projects and cards almost as soon as Christmas decorations are put away for the year.  I decorate my house every year for this day and I really love the colors associated with Valentines Day.  This little mailbox will go on my mantel with my other decorations.

 

To create this fun project I started out by covering a small mailbox I purchased at one of the dollar stores.  I used Helmar Tacky Craft Glue for this step.  

Here is how it looks after covering the main part of the mailbox.

The next step is to ink all the edges with a coordinating ink.  

The next step is to decorate your box.  I started out by embossing some chipboard pieces with Red glitter embossing powder.

 

To adhere some of the embellishments I need a  needle sized tip so i filled a small bottle with Helmar Tacky Craft Glue.  This allows me to spread a small amount of glue to the back of the fine lettering and framing of some of the chipboard pieces.

 

To adhere the larger embellishments I used  Helmar Premium Craft Glue.  It dries quickly and and also dries clear.

 

I started with the mailbox lid and adhered the larger hearts and arrows using Helmar Premium Craft Glue.  Allow the embellishments to dry.


Time to decorate the front.  I adhered flowers and a pearl flourish as shown.

Vintage Card and Tag

Hello Crafters! Today I'm back with my Vintage style card and matching tag! I used Prima's Lavender Frost Collection for this project. 

Supply List: 

Blank card and chipboard tag, any size you like. My card measures 6 & 1/2 x 5 inches. My tag measures 3 & 1/2 x 6 & 1/4 inches 

Prima Lavender Frost papers, flowers, crystals and chipboard 

Black cardstock and any frame diecut 

Hole punch and trimmer

Helmar assorted craft glues  ( I'll specify glue types in instructions 

Pebeo Gliding Wax  (Renaissance Gold)

Prima crystals, pearls

Pearl trim and fuzzy trim

Stickles Diamond glitter 

Liquid pearls White opal and Petal Pink 

For card:

Choose 2 different papers you want to use for your card base and other layer. Take any diecut frame and cut out of black cardstock. Rub gliding wax lightly over your diecut frame. This gives your piece a nice shimmer. Make sure to only use a tiny amount of wax at a time. 

Trace an image from your scrap papers to fit inside of your diecut frame. Cut it out leaving a slight edge and glue to the back of your diecut frame using Helmar Craft and Hobby PVA Craft Glue. Set your frame aside.

Next take one of your papers and glue to your card base surface.  I used Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA glue for this step. Take your second piece of paper and cut slightly smaller than your card base. Leave about 1/4 inch of  your base paper still visiable around the edge of the card. Glue down onto the previous card layer using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots. This will add extra dimension to your card.

Now take your diecut frame and add more Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots to the back and glue to the center of your card.

Next add some pearl trim around the inside edge of your diecut frame. Helmar Super Tac Glue is perfect since it dries clear and adheres firmly.

Next choose some flowers, chipboard and other embellishments you like. I don't glue anything down until I'm pleased with my placement. I like to use Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to attach my flowers and embellishments.

To finish off my card I tucked some pearls here and there between the flowers and scattered some Prima crystals onto my card. I also added some Stickles Diamond glitter on the birds tail feathers . Lastly add some liquid pearls around the edges of your card if you like. 

Tag: 

Choose 3 different papers you would like to decorate your tag with. Trace your tag onto your front and back papers. Cut them out. Make sure to punch a hole at the top of your papers. Then glue down onto your chipboard tag. I used Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA glue for this step.

Trace and add your second layer of paper to your tag base, leaving 1/4 inch edge all around as you did with your card. I used the Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots to the back to add more dimension. Trace and add your last piece of paper on top of the your previous layer again using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots. 

Next add your flowers and embellishments you like and glue to the front of your tag surface. I also added a wooden phase piece I found in my stash.

Thread some tulle, ribbon or anything you like through the top hole in your tag and tie a knot to secure. 

Lastly scatter some Prima crystals onto your tag. Then add some Liquid Pearls around the second layer of your tag.

Summer Silicone Spray Season

Hello everyone,

Here in Australia it is summer, everything is dry, dusty and rusty. Been along time since rain.

So a few things are seizing up, sticking and a bit squeaky around my house

Out comes my bottle of H4000 Helmar Silicone Spray with its handy straw and off to work I go

The straw comes stuck to the side of the can and you simply push it into the spraying hole on the top of the can ( please be careful and aim the Spray top away from your face just in case )

I first started with my clothes line, a good old Hills Hoist wind up. Using the silicone Spray and straw I Spray in the oil hole which greases up all the gears used to wind my clothesline up.No more squeaking and squealing as I wind it up and down.

Next up I needed to Spray my screen door sliding tracks, I know a bit dirty but with the winds whipping up the dust from our dry country it really is a waste of time cleaning them. The Spray worked a treat no more noise and smooth sliding.

I also tackled my front door spraying the latch as it has been a bit sticky lately.

And lastly my old gate latch, gave it a good Spray and it latches and unlatches like new, even though it is old as! 

So for all those that need to stop things squeaking or sticking go for Helmar H4000 Silicone Spray. 

Quick and Easy Bulk Embellishments

Hello everyone, today I'm going to be making some embellishments for upcoming journal making. As I want to make several in the same theme I'm going to make them in bulk. You can also use this method to make different themes and different colours and have a stash of them on hand for future use.

What you will need:

You will need your Helmar Craft and Hobby PVA Glue and Helmar Fabric Glue, scissors and a flower punch, a variety of scrap papers, lace and/or cheesecloth scraps, buttons, sequins and pre-sewn paper bits.

Firstly lay a full piece of paper down, I've used a tea stained graph paper. You then need to rip up pieces of the papers that you have selected and layer them up on the larger sheet.

Then you can add small pieces of the lace/cheesecloth as desired.

Once you are happy with the look of the little bundles, using your Helmar Craft and Hobby PVA Glue you can apply glue to the page or to the individual pieces (I found gluing the pieces easier).

Continue to glue all the bundles.

Now punch out any flowers you may want to use and shape them if you desire.

Using your Helmar Fabric Glue, adhere any buttons and flowers to your bundles.

I've added little sequins to some of the flowers and Kindyglitz to others. I also left the long threads on my buttons for a shabby look.

Once they are all done, you can choose to rip them in to individual embellishments or leave them on the larger sheet for future use.

I think this is a great way of making bulk embellishments, a nice project to do 'in between' larger projects and you can have a lovely selection of different themes etc waiting to be used. All you will need to do is add a word or quote and glue it onto your project.

Napkin Bookmarks with Tamiko

Hey good people, Happy New Year, Tamiko here!! Nothing I like more then after the holidays is finding beautifully colored napkins!! Yes, I said it NAPKINS. I love getting the nicer napkins 80% off. I use them in my upcoming projects and within my art journal. Here is a fabulous napkin bookmark I initially made for a 1 on 1 swap with my partner Peggy. Check it out.. (smile) To be honest, I made more then enough to pass out in a few swaps.. :)  and forgot to take my final pic ,ebfore I mailed them out.  So this is my second batch of the same bookmarks. (chuckles)

 

 

Supplies:

Helmar Spray Adhesive

Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA Glue

Scissors

Coordinating cardstock 

140lb watercolor paper

Paper cutter

Gold Leaf Marker

 

I would cut up my papers first, because the process can be a simple assembly line and you can make more then one for just a few extra minutes of prep time. The dimensions of the bookmarks may vary but whatever size you choose, just make the following piece of paper 1/4 inch bigger length-wise and width-wise then the last (i.e the napkin is attached to a 2 inch x 4 inch piece of paper, next layer is 2 1/4 inch x 4 1/4 inch; then 2 1/2 inch x 4 1/2 inch etc.).

Most napkins come in layers, the trick is to remove the plain layers while leaving the picture in tact.  Make sure you are in a well ventilated area and that your work space is protected with like freezer paper or newspaper. When you get to that single most important layer (with the picture) flip it over to the wrong side and hold the Helmar Spray Adhesive can 8-10 inches away from the napkins and spray lightly. 

 

Now that the napkin is tacky I place my 140lb watercolor paper down and I make sure that I evenly press it against the napkin. Also leave a 1/2 inch boarder around paper to wrap the edges with. I cut off the corners, of the napkins so that they won't bulk up. 

 

I use the Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA glue to layer the cardstock and assemble the bookmarks. Of course you can do more and embellishments, but today I just took my gold leaf marker and added a word... I love them!

For the Love of Scrap Dots

Hi All!

Today I am super excited to share with you a new to me product from Helmar Worldwide.

 

This is such an awesome product, you guys know me, I would not recommend a product that I don't believe in, this adhesive is like a thick liquid form of foam dots and it is really cool. 

 

 

I decided I wanted to use it on this Avery Elle Stamp Set, this is the Journey stamp set, I will link it up at the end of my blog post. 

 

My idea was to make the balloons look 3D, I then went a step further and applied it to the tree also. 

 

 

It was a little more fiddly on the tree because the tree is so thin and the leaves are smaller but I made it work and I love the way that it turned out in the end.. and well that's all that matters really. 

 

 

I stamped the images out onto X-Press It Blending Cardstock because I knew I was going to Copic Colour the images. I used Ink On 3 Blackout Detail Ink and some Lawn Fawn acrylic blocks. 

 

I then stamped out extras of everything so I was able to colour them up and use them for my layers. 

 

I applied the Scrap Dots to the backs and began layering them all up, I love the way it all came together, and the finished product just highlights everything perfectly. 

 

 

I used a Copic Multiliner in 0.1 to draw in my road after I sketched it out in pencil then erased those lines so they were not stuck underneath the Copic Ink. 

 

 

I trimmed my image layer down very carefully as everything was not completely dried yet. 

 

 

 

For my patterned papers I used Bella Wedding, and I layered them up using American Crafts Cardstock.

Butterfly Box

Hello everyone and welcome to the new year.

What Once was Old is New Again!

My creation today is an old wine box which I have recreated into a storage box for some of my extensive craft supplies.

I have used several different Helmar products to create this project. 

To start with I have undercoated the box with an acrylic paint, whilst this was drying I prepared the tissue paper, first crinkling it all up and then tore it into sections.

I also prepared my decoupage Adhesive using 2/3 parts Craft and Hobby PVA glue and 1/3 water, mixed up in a little dish. If you keep it covered it lasts forever.

I start added layers of the tissue paper to my box letting each layer dry before adding the next.

Once all this was dried I took the box outside and gave it a sprayed it with Krystal Kote Matte Varnish to seal the tissue paper layer.

Then added some colour highlight using Distress Ink Paint Walnut Stain and then buffed it off with a wet wipe leaving behind different colour shading. 

Let this all dry and it was time to add some embellishments. I have chosen some metal embellishments including butterflies because they are on the tissue paper.

Helmar's Tiger Grip Adhesive is perfect for securing my metal embellishments to my box

I have then added some highlights using Inka Gold

Tag Flip Album feat. Maggie Holmes collections

HAPPY NEW YEAR CRAFTY FRIENDS!! I'm so excited that we have reached another year especially 2020!! I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday with your family and friends! Of course with that said, we usually start creating for Christmas as early as Oct, sometimes even earlier than this. Anyhow regardless how much I love creating for the Christmas Holiday, I was anxious to get back to a little more variety. This year will be some changes in my craft style, not a crazy change but just doing things that are more challenging for me. Well enough chat about this, I am thrilled to be sharing my changes with all of you of course. 

So I love creating projects using the Maggie Holmes collections ! I feel like they all blend so well with one another so in this project, I used papers & embellishments from the Carousel and Flourish collections. As you might know or maybe not know , I love creating albums, folio's, something that you can keep your memories stored forever! So I started with this tag album using these kraft card stock tags that measure 4.25 X 6.50. 

 

                                  
This was a very easy project to create. After choosing the papers I would be using, I first adhered all of the tags to the papers using Helmar Tacky Glue. After I did this, I used my We R Memory Keepers Hold Punch & then I added a little bit of Vintage Photo Distress Ink around the edges of my tags. 

Once I've done this with all of my tags, I began adhering the calendar cut outs from a 12x12 sheet of the Maggie Holmes Flourish collection as well as the card stock photo mats I cut up.H

I used one of the stamps from the Maggie Holmes collection on the front cover of my tag album " Collect Beautiful Moments". This was the perfect title for it!! I also used another favorite product from Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots on some of the die cuts to add some dimension . I love this look! Lastly I used the Helmar Premium Craft Glue for the rest of the embellishments that weren't stickers.

Mixed Media Christmas with Tamiko

Hey, hey folks Tamiko here! It's been a few weeks since Christmas and I struggled to see the finish line for getting the last minute things I'd liked to just pass out for the holidays to friends and family.  I kept delaying my project, thinking I needed to go to the craft store to buy some holiday paper/fabric. Nope.. procrastinating is all I was doing. I have a habit of collecting thin board  and/or corrugated board.  Just a small stock pile though. I took one of my boards and slipped into paper engineer hat and asked what did I see festive enough to create.  I saw a tree and I also saw the making of a shadowbox within the tree shape.  Let's try it. :::zooms forward :::  Check out what I made..

I first took my board and quickly saw enough room to create two maybe three trees.  The size of the trees are a matter of preference my trees are 10 inches tall and 7 inches wide.  I did a rough cut, have you ever seen a perfect tree? Well you won't from me either! (ha-ha) I penciled in the rectangular shape towards the base of the tree. Once I cut it out, I use the piece scale against the shadow box I was creating to add.  There are many ways to do this, but the easiest way that comes to me, is to take the cut out and factor in the side by adding an inch in thickness on all 4 sides. 

With that inch of thickness, score it at the half inch mark, all the way around.   The extra inch serves a side and a bit of a lip with our Helmar 450 Quick Dry glue, I can use to attach the the new box to the rectangular opening. Check out my photos below.  Hopefully my photos will show you better then my words are if you are lost :::tiny grin:::

You will also see the previous step was the hardest part of the project and NOW all I needed to do is gather my Helmar adhesives and items to help me decorate my tree shadow box. 

I recently bought some fabric/lace trim from my friend Daisy over at Tsunami Rose on Etsy. I wasn't sure what I was going to use it for, but I wanted to support her small business and use that trim for something!! (chuckles) I used the Helmar Fabric glue (even though I held the wrong bottle in the picture, ha) to fold and do  bit of a cleaner ruffled finish... (thinking how cuuuuute.. I see some other things I can use this for indeed) I also used the clips to hold the fabric in place until it was dry enough to handle. 

I took my finger and of course you can use a brush, I just didn't, and I lightly primed my board.  Just the side I planned to paint and embellish. I truly did not wanna spend a extra dime on one bit of already made Christmas cardstock paper, not even for the purpose of fussy cutting small embellishments! This is where I took my watercolor paper and several gouache colors and painted simple round balls. I will let them dry and then do a little black line work, fussy cut and create ornaments for the tree!  I did the tree last because cutting out all the small circles would take a moment longer then it would for the tree to dry from the base color applied.

From this point on there was a lot of just basic crafting going on.  Gluing everything down in its rightful place using Helmars Craft & Hobby PVA Glue.  I had fun turning and old side of a delivery box into not one but two trees.  What will I do with them? Well one is going right my daughter's pc! We did not do any decorating this year around our bedroom or our computer work space, The other, I may attach a strip of magnetic backing and decorate a fridge or a metal cabinet door. Heck  I have time to drop one in the mail with coffees and teas to a pal as well.. One thing I won't have to worry about is the longevity of the glue and my embellishments on my project in mail.  It holds super well.. :)

Quick and Easy Drawer Repair

Hello Helmar fans, Raelene with you Today.

One of the drawer fronts in our Buffet broke a while back, we sealed it with some duct tape to prevent bugs getting in and put it in the get around to fixing it when we have the glue and the time catagory.

Thanks to Helmar, I have the perfect glue to fix the drawer front and the perfect cleaner to get the duct tape adhesive off.  With moving I need to sell or give away the buffet away so the time to fix it is now.  

 

 

 

 

 

I used some Helmar Super Strength PVA Wood Glue.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I borrowed some clamps from a friend to hold my pieces together while the glue dried.  I left it overnight to give it as much time to bond as possible before use.

I used too much Helmar Super Strength PVA Wood Glue but I have never done a repair like this before and was wanting to ensure I didn't use too little, so I just wiped off the excess with a damp cloth when it seeped out. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

While my glue was drying I decided to clean off the duct tape adhesive from the buffet with Helmar H2000 Remove Cleaner.  This stuff is great for getting adhesive residue off things, just spritz and rub off with a rag.  It is best to test on a section that isn't visible first.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

All fixed, I apparently messed up the alignment and didn't notice until it was dry but that's ok, this was about getting a functional drawer again and it was a messy break.  So my advice for people like myself who haven't done repairs like this before is be careful with your alignment when applying the clamps.
