Autumn Card

Hello Crafters!

Fall is here! I love all the colors of the season. Changing leaves, cool breezes and pumpkins galore! Today I'm sharing a Fall card I made using Carta Bella "Hello Autumn " collection! I love to use a variety of high quality adhesives from Helmar!

Supply List:

Carta Bella 6x6 and 12x12 "Hello Autumn"  paper pads

White 6x6 blank card, burgundy cardstock

Carta Bella "Hello Autumn" ephermera, chipboards and Puffy Stickers

Helmar Tacky Craft Glue, Helmar Scrap Dots, Helmar 450 Quick Dry adhesive 

Paper Trimmer, score board, scissors, crystal gems, gold dazzle stickers

Stickles glitter: Diamond, orange peel and Lime green 

I started with a 6x6 white card base. Then I cut a piece of burgundy cardstock to measure 5 3/4 x5 3/4. I adhered it to my card base using Helmar Tacky Craft glue. 

For the next layer I chose a orange patterned paper from the 6x6 paper pad. I cut it down slightly so about 1/4 inch edge of the burgundy card is visible. I added Helmar Scrap Dots to the back of this layer if paper, to add dimension and lift. 

Next I chose a patterned leaves paper from the paper pad and cut it down to 2 3/4 inches x 5 1/2 inches. Then I adhered it to the center of my card using Helmar Tacky Craft glue.

Now take the "Beautiful Autumn" frame piece from the empherma pack. Punch out the two pieces. Glue the frame to the center of your leaf paper. Then take the middle piece from the frame, add some Helmar Scrap Dots to the back and carefully place in the middle of your frame. Helmar Scrap Dots add dimension and dry clear.

Next I added a few of the puffy sticker flags to the upper left corner of my card. I added a few crystal gems to the bottom right corner of my card. I like to add a small amount of Helmar 450 Quick Dry adhesive to the back of my gems, so they stay securely in place. This glue has a quick bond and dies clear. 

Last of all, I added a few of the chipboard pieces to finish off my card. I adhered them onto my card using Helmar Tacky Craft glue. I took some Stickles assorted glitters and added to the pumpkin, and leaf. I took a few Dazzle gold stickers and added to the flower centers on my "Beautiful Autumn" frame.

Simple Cards for Beginners

Hi crafty friends!! I'm back this month with these cards I decided I would create because there is always crafters who are just starting out and are looking on  how to create a simple card. I know that when I was starting out, I always loved coming across blog posts or even videos that were simple but beautiful cards. The ones I made here was using the beautiful papers from Mintay Cozy Evening . Here is the quick look at how I made this.

This card is a great size because you don't waste any of the paper you use for the base which is the 8.5 X 11 card stock. For this one I used some of the Brutus Monroe Not Your Mamas Heavy Whit e Card stock , I place my paper on my paper trimmer horizontally and cut down the center which would be 5.5, (5 1/2) you then take them and place onto a score board, I am using the Martha Stewart Score Board and Bone Folder  Using the bone folder you will now score them at 4.25 (4 1/4) . Now you have your card base! On to the pattern paper.

 

So for these smaller cards I like to use my 6 X 6 paper pads and since we are having weird weather and its almost Fall, I thought I would use this paper pad from Mintay "Cozy Evening" . I had purchased this one last year around December and so since I already had newer Christmas themed papers I never got around to this one. I love the color combinations on this collection. 

Once I chose the papers I wanted to use on the base, I cut it just 1/8 smaller than the card base itself. I actually messed up the size on the second card I made, but I don't like throwing away something that isn't too noticeable. Anyhow I then used Helmar Tacky Glue to adhere my pattern paper to the base. One thing I have heard a lot of people say that they don't like using any sort of tacky glue or any white glue because it creates air bubbles on their paper projects, what I have actually found so that don't happen is don't add too much of it to your paper and another thing you can do if you aren't rushing is have a small paint brush specifically for this and brush it on. Then keep your brush in water so it doesn't harden. This is my tip for you. 

I then took another sheet from the paper pad that had some cute cut outs with different images. So I cut them out and I then picked out some American Crafts Textured Card Stock from the "Spring" pack,  in a similar color that was in the image, which is a light peachy/pink color. I cut the colored card stock just a little bigger than the images I had cut out. Once I had them all cut, I then used some Tim Holtz Distress Ink Gathered Twigs around the edges of the cut images as well on the edges of the colored card stock. I then used the same Helmar Tacky Glue to adhere the images to the card stock. I then took one of my other favorite products from Helmar , Liquid Scrap Dots and I added a couple dots onto the small squares I put together , this products works just the same as foam tape. What I like best about it though is that you can add as much dimension to your project as you want. They then got added to my card base , (4) on each card. One one of the cards I added a small punched piece of the same colored card stock I used on the squares. Just to make it a little different. Lastly as you may have noticed I didn't add a sentiment to these. I like to keep some cards or note cards like this just in case I need one that I can just write something short on the inside. 

Well crafty friends, this was the project I created for this month. This is actually my last project for Helmar Creative Team. I have been on this team since Fall of 2017, so almost 3 years. I have absolutely LOVED  creating for them. Not only do they have great products but they are an amazing company to design for. Due to the Covid-19 issues, they can't ship to anyone in the USA, so this time around their design team call was only for the Austrailia/UK area in which this call just finished yesterday so I hope you got your application in, those of you over across the pond!!

I am saddened that I will not be here for another term but hopefully this crazy Covid will pass soon and they can have USA Crafters back on their creative team. Pretty Decorative Box

Hello everyone, today on the blog I will be decorating an old balsa wood box I found at the op-shop a few years ago. 

What I use:

Helmar 450 Quickdry Adhesive, decorative paper (I used C'est La Vie by Couture Creations), scissors, decorative trims and fabric of choice.

 

The first thing I decided to do was to line the inside of the box. Using some pink satin fabric I cut out a square. To get the right size I measured from the inside centre of the box to the side and up to the lip where the lid will meet, I then added an extra cm to this number. Once this was done I trimmed off the corners 2-3cm and then ironed the fabric.

I wanted a 'ruched' look in my box so I went ahead and added a couple of gathering stitches around the edge of the fabric using my sewing machine, you could also do this by hand sewing, pull up the threads to create the gathered ruched effect.

Place the fabric inside the box (right side up) and adjust the gathers to suit the size of the box.

Using Helmar 450 Quickdry Adhesive, apply a bead of glue just below the lip where the lid will sit. Press the gathering into place and then continue around until all the fabric has been glued into place. Trim any excess threads once dry.

Next, glue your chosen decorative trim over the top of the gathered edge of the fabric using Helmar 450 Quickdry Adhesive. I found it easier to apply the glue to the trim for this. Press it firmly into place and allow to dry.

 

Now that the inside of the box is done I can move onto the outside.

I cut my decorative papers to the correct size to fit my box and then glued it into place securely with Helmar 450 Quickdry Adhesive. For the top of the lid I chose a contrasting floral paper along with a lovely braided trim for the outside edge of the lid.

For the outside of the box I added a strip of the decorator paper and then some gorgeous glass beaded trim (a recent gift I received).  Another lovely braided trim was added to cover the ribbon on the beading and a beautiful jewelled bow was placed to add the final touch. All of this easily adhered with Helmar 450 Quickdry Adhesive.

I thought a couple of extra tiny trims would finish the top edge of the box nicely and there you have it, a pretty decorated box to be used for a special gift. I chose to leave the top unadorned (from dimensional embellishments) as I know the person receiving this box will be placing something on top of it.

I do hope you enjoyed my tutorial today and that you may consider decorating a box yourself, remember, before you know it Christmas will be upon us and having a few boxes pre-decorated may come in very handy for this or for any upcoming Birthdays or special events :)

Rosette Tutorial

Hi Everyone, 

 

Today I am working with Helmar Worldwide and I will be doing a How To Video For You.

We are going to be learning how to make a Rosette without using any dies, just using what's on hand.

 

 

 

 

What will you need?

 

-Helmar Quick Dry 450

-Bone Folder

-Circle Punch or die

-Trimmer / Score Board/ Ruler

-Scrap card stock - preferable 30cmx2.5cm

 

 

First things first cut down a piece of scrap cardstock to a strip of approx 30cmx2.5cm in size. 

 

I am using my Fiskars Trimmer which has an indent where the blade goes through (alternatively you can use a ruler or scoring board if you have one), I scored at 1 inch to begin with but then went back and scored every half inch (or every 1.5cm) using my bone folder. 

 

 

 

 

Once you strip is scored you can add Helmar Quick Dry 450 to the end and adhere it to the other end creating a circle.

 

                                              

 

 

Leave that to dry for a moment, whilst waiting punch out a small circle (or die cut one if you don't have a punch) this is going to create a backing piece to hold your rosette together. 

 

Now your strip should be dry carefully use the palm of your hand to push down on the rosette, you will put Helmar 450 Quick Dry covering the circle you punched out, then add the rosette on top and carefully hold it down until it is dry, I usually wait a few seconds then turn it over and carefully centre your circle.

 

Once your Rosette is dry you can add a button or something decorative to the centre to finish it off. 

 

 

I used an EK Success Butterfly punch and layered it up, then brushed Wink Of Stella to the wings and some Tonic Studios Nuvo Crystal Drops in Glitter Drops- Summer Sunrise. 

 

 

 

Your Rosette is now complete, you can add it to your project using more of the 450 Helmar Quick Dry.

Varnish the Barn

 

Hi everyone,

A little product spotlight for you today!

My grand daughters were given this old horse barn by their cousins.

This poor barn has been neglected by all for many years, needed a good clean and then a bit of a revamp.

So what better product to use but the Helmar Crystal Kote

Matte Varnish!

 

After giving the barn a good clean and wipe over I took this much loved barn outside and my dear husband sprayed it for me!

By using the Varnish spray on the barn it retained its natural colour and look.

So now my grand daughters have a nice shiny, clean barn to use with all their horses and dolls!

Ikea Lekman Repair

Hi Helmar Fans, Raelene with you today.
I found myself needing a 2x4 Kallax instead of the 2x2 that I had for my scrapping stash, so I browsed Facebook Marketplace regularly in the hope of finding a bargain nearby, finally I scored a white 2x4 that came with 5 Lekman inserts (4 white which I gave to my daughter and 2 smokey), 1 of the smokey ones was broken at the back (the lady had felt pads on the side that faced the walls, which saved me doing that myself).  I contacted Ikea to see if you could get a replacement part and unfortunately you can't so Helmar came to the rescue as I really didn't want to send this to the tip if I could save it.

I grabbed out my Helmar Silicone Adhesive and Sealant and applied it to the break on the parts poking out and the inside. 
Note - I would later realise with the way this had to be forced back in place that I should have worn gloves and had some turpentine at the ready to clean up the excess when done.

 
I don't have photos for the next part as my photography assistant was off in Uni class.
Basically I pulled and pushed at the 2 sections that needed to go back together until I had them together, this is why I overdid it with the Helmar Silicone Adhesive and Sealant, I wanted to ensure some wound up in the break once I had it together.  This is also why I should have worn gloves, if you get it on your skin wash immediately.
This is when you need the Turpentine, so you can wipe off the mess you made when trying to get the 2 sections to click back together.



As it's at the back you can't tell it was repaired when it's on the shelf, it is now a perfectly functional Lekman to stash away goodies in.

Alice in Wonderland Shadow box

Hi all my Crafty Friends!

Hope you all are staying healthy and safe! Can't believe September is already upon us. I thought I'd create something fun and different! I love Alice in Wonderland! This paper collection from Stamperia, is so cute! I hope I inspire you to try making one for yourself or to surprise a special friend or grandaughter. 

Supplies you'll need:

Tim Holtz Idea-ology Vinnette Divided drawer (mine measures 3.5 inches x 10 inches)

Tim Holtz Idea-ology Curio Knobs

Stamperia "Alice in Wonderland " 8x8 and 12x12 paper pads, Silver metal charms and Diecuts

Glass bottle, star sequins, scoring board, scissors, paper trimmer,  distress tool, 

Tim Holtz Distress Ink  (Rusty Hinge) black ink pad and dabber, small scallop die, twine, diecut machine, small piece of cream cardstock

Helmar Assorted Glues: Craft and Hobby PVA glue, Helmar Scrap Dots, Helmar 450 Quick Dry adhesive 

Echo Park Alice in wonderland stamp set

First choose a base paper to cover the back and both sides of your shadow box. Cut the back piece of paper to measure 3&1/2 inches x 10 inches. For the sides cut down to 1&3/4 x 10 inches.

Distress the edges of all three papers and if you desire you may ink the edges with Distress ink.

Then adhere your papers to the sides and back of your box using Helmar Craft and Hobby PVA glue. This glue works especially well when working with particle board or balsa wood. Dries clear too! Smooth out your edges.  Let dry.

Next I cut two pieces of the hearts paper at 3&1/2 x 1&3/4 inches. Distress the edges of each paper and adhere to top and bottom of your box using Helmar Craft and Hobby PVA glue. Then from the same hearts paper, I cut a piece to measure 3&1/2 x 10 inches and adhered to the back of the inside of my box. 

Now take one of the Tim Holtz Idea-ology Curio Knobs and adhere to the middle of the top of your box using Helmar 450 Quick Dry adhesive. This glue adheres quickly, dries clear and has a strong bond. Hold in place a few seconds then set aside to dry throughly. 

Now we come to the fun part of decorating the inside sections of your box. Starting at the bottom section, I took out one of the Echo Park Alice in wonderland sentiment stamps. Used black ink to stamp my sentiment onto a small piece of cream cardstock.

Then I took a small scalloped die and held my die in place with a piece of washi tape centered over my stamped image. Ran this through my diecutting  machine. I distressed the edges of my diecut sentiment and glued it to the front of my glass bottle, using Helmar 450 Quick Dry adhesive. Filled my bottle with some red star sequins. Then took a piece of black and white twine, added one of the silver key charms onto my piece of twine, and Tied around the top of my glass bottle. I adhered my glass bottle to the lower right corner with Helmar 450 Quick Dry adhesive. 

Added Helmar Scrap Dots to the back of my rabbit and heart chipboard diecuts and adhered to the back bottom section of my box. These Helmar Scrap Dots are one of my favorite products to use and add such dimension to any project!

For the top shelf,  I cut out one of the teapot journaling card images from the 8x8 paper pad. I took one round diecut frame and placed it around my image and ran this through my diecutting machine. I inked the edges with Distress ink. Then added some Helmar Scrap Dots to the back and adhered the teapot to the back wall. I adhered a teacut chipboard diecut to the left bottom corner again using Helmar Scrap Dots. Took a silver charm teapot and glued to the center using Helmar 450 Quick Dry adhesive. Lastly, I chose a Teapot and a rabbit chipboard diecut pieces and glued these to the upper left corner and lower right corners, to finish it off.

For the middle section of my box, I roughly fuzzy cut out the cat in the tree, from one of the 8x8 papers. Adhered this to the back wall using Helmar Scrap Dots. Then I cut out two sentiments  from the leftover paper, inked the edges and glued to the upper left corner and lower right corner, using Helmar Craft and Hobby PVA glue.  Took one of the Alice chipboard diecuts and adhered her on the left side.
